Warlock Of The Magus World FF: Dark Lord

Chapter 6: Chapter 6

Although the direwolves were as powerful as Knights, humans have the ability to use weapons, along with their intelligence; furthermore, the Knights should have secret skills which can greatly raise their potential and allow them to burst forth with greater power when necessary!

If it's one versus one or even one versus three, these direwolves will definitely not be a match for the Knights. Unfortunately...

Leylin focused his attention to the dark forest and saw a few hundred of direwolves, today would be a very bloody day for the camp.

Leylin kept his crossbow ready while he paid attention to the ongoing battle.

*Psh*

One of the black-robed Knights waved his immense blade, weaving a bright silver light in the air as he cleaved a direwolf right into two!

"Heh heh!" The Knight licked the blood from his lips, looking extremely ferocious: "Come on!"

"Hurry! Arrange the horse carriages in a circle to use as a defensive formation, the girls should stay behind while the boys, take up your swords and set up a defensive perimeter!"

The black robed Knight who remained at the campsite shouted out.

'Aaahh! Why should these useless trash stay behind!? Aren't they also Magus student, shouldn't they learn to fight for themselves! Why do I have to protect them?' At the command, Leylin grinded his teeth but ultimately he could only comply.

"Alright!" George was the first to shout out a reply, jumping up onto one of the carriages to direct the alliance members.

"Aowuuu!"

The few students that had fallen earlier had perished by now, and with the scent of blood in the air, the direwolves went berserk and charged savagely towards the horse carriages.

"Here they come! Everyone be careful! We will try our best to protect you, but there are only so many of us and we will definitely miss some. At that point, you will have to fight for your lives!" A knight's loud voice rang out, as he waved his huge sword, standing in the front lines together with the other Knights.

"Kill!" The Knights shouted out loud, and Leylin could see a faint light shining around their large swords. He paid close attention to how they used 'life seed', a special power one awakens when they advance to Knight's level.

For sometime, the dozen or so black figures stood like an immovable fortress, blocking the direwolves.

"We should fight as well! We need to help the Knights and reduce their load!" George walked up to Leylin and said.

"Take the guys to go up ahead, I'll cover everyone from the back. I won't let anyone die, we will all go to Magus academy together." Leylin tightly gripped his crossbow and said with conviction.

Then without waiting for George response, he locked his weapon on a direwolf that had lost one leg.

"Whoosh!" The powerful crossbow bolt flew out, and the strong recoil caused Leylin's arm to feel slightly numb.

"Pu!" The crossbow arrow entered through the eye of the direwolf killing it.

'Nice, years of using wands to throw spells haven't been wasted.' Leylin wasn't very sure of his shooting skills, hence he kept an eyes out for an injured direwolves. After finding one, he followed it and waited for George to ask him to join him in a frontal assault then killed it for him to see.

Now with his long range ability on display, George can only leave Leylin alone.

"Wonderful!" George only responded now, and he patted Leylin on the shoulder.

"It seems you are quite good with the crossbow, from today it's yours. Give us cover, I'll go up ahead."

"Take care George, we will surely make it out brother." Leylin said with a reassuring smile.

'Get lost already, don't attract direwolves here.'

"Yes, we would." Under George's leadership, all the men took up their swords and followed behind the Knights, attacking the ferocious direwolf pack from the side!

'I can only hope direwolves retreat before my bolts ends otherwise I would need to engage in close fight as well.' Leylin thought as he readied his crossbow.

"Leylin! Leylin here! Help us!" At this point, students who were still away from carriage witnessed Leylin's ability, and cried out for help.

None of their cries meant anything to Leylin, he turned a deaf ear to them. He had a limited amount of bolts, he only used them when absolutely necessary.

Leylin shooting precision wasn't very good but it was acceptable, he used them only when people from Furze alliance were in danger. Even then his expenditure was a lot, his heart bled but he needs to contribute otherwise he would be in trouble later.

Currently Leylin was in a very favourable and protected position, it's only his usefulness that keeps the people especially students forward to keep fighting, and not let any direwolves break their defense.

It was simply a matter of transaction, they fought in the frontline while Leylin helped them from the back if this balance is broken he would have pick up his cross blade too.

Right now a lot of students who couldn't retreat, especially the ones crying to Leylin for help were slowly devoured by the direwolves. To Leylin's joy one of them were Ourin, it was quite laughable that in his last moment he asked Leylin for help. Leylin almost burst out laughing, what a fool!

Ignoring them Leylin's fingers tensed as he released another bolt, the recoil jolting up his arm again. By now his arms were cramped and he felt faint pain from his shoulder, arms and fingers.

He gritted his teeth, his breath steady, but unfortunately this shot went wide—whistling past the direwolf's head.

Suddenly a massive direwolf, larger than normal direwolves, had found a weakness in their formation. The Knights were occupied, the frontline students locked in desperate combat. No one was free to intercept. And this one had spotted prey.

Its powerful limbs tore into the dirt as it sprinted toward the backline—toward Leylin.

*Growl* Leylin's mind raced. He reached for another bolt, but the direwolf was too fast. There was no time.

Without hesitation, he threw the crossbow aside and snatched up his cross blade. The weight of the weapon settled in his grip, and his heartbeat slowed. The beast was nearly upon him, its jaws widening to tear him apart.

"Aowuuu!" The direwolf howls were unceasing, and Leylin was currently facing a 2-metre long huge direwolf.

As the direwolf opened it's blood stained jaws, Leylin could smell the stench from it. The direwolf facing him finally launched an attack, and it's terrifying jaw specked with gnawing towards Leylin, bringing along a hot wave of air.

Leylin quietly circulated the breathing technique, concentrating his strength in his arm muscles as he followed the beasts rhythm, sweeping his foot position to the right he thrusted his sword forward.

*BANG*

Leylin felt a shock travel up his arm from the immense impact, making him feel as though he had struck a thick piece of metal.

'Fuck, useless bastards couldn't do one thing right!' Leylin was furious, not only because had to fight the beast irrespective of making so many preparation but also because of everything happening so far.

He snarled, with a bloodthirsty look in his eyes swinging the cross blade in a brilliant arc piercing the beast from under.

Psh! Leylin felt the cross blade pierce through its flesh, and it seemed as though the cross blade in his hands firmly passed through the beasts jaw and stuck in the direwolf head. The sheer impact of the blow caused him to tremble, and he tried to retract the cross blade.

"Haww!" Leylin shouted as he yanked his hands backwards. The cross blade was pulled out violently, causing fresh blood to gush out wildly splattering onto Leylin like river. The direwolf laid twitching at his feet, its final breath escaping in a gurgling whimper.

'Thankfully I had broken through to Prepatory Knight level few days ago.' Leylin panted, his cross blade slick with warm, crimson life.

Leylin's whole body was splashed with direwolve blood, he exhaled sharply, his heart pounding, not from exertion, but from something primal—anger and frustration.

A warm, thick drop of blood slid down his cheek, stopping at the corner of his lips.

Without thinking, in the heat of moment, he licked it.

*Boooom*

Leylin started to feel light-headed, bolt of raw energy exploded in his mind. The world around him shattered as the very fabric of reality reshaped before his eyes.

When he regained his senses Leylin was no longer in the forest. Leylin stood in a world that should not exist, the sky above was a churning mass of black mist, shifting and twisting like a living thing.

Beneath his feet, the ground was not solid, but rather a pulsating network of veins and tendrils, shifting like the exposed flesh of some ancient, slumbering beast. Each step Leylin took sent ripples through the surface, as if the world itself was breathing—alive.

The air was thick and oppressive, heavy with the metallic tang of blood. In the distance, grotesque shapes moved within the fog, their silhouettes jagged and unnatural, whispering in a language that scraped against the edges of his sanity.

This place… it was calling to him.

Something about it felt familiar, as if it had always been waiting for him to arrive.

At the center of this surreal nightmare, a book floated in the air.

It's cover was bound in pale, stretched skin, veins pulsing beneath the surface like something alive. Dark runes crawled across its surface, shifting constantly as though aware of his presence. The book's spine bore no title, yet the moment Leylin laid eyes on it, a memory flooded his mind—ancient, cryptic, and full of promise.

Darkness stretched infinitely around him, a void vast and consuming. A blood-red mist churned in the distance, forming symbols, sigils, and ancient, forgotten texts that pulsed with an eerie, otherworldly glow.

This was no ordinary tome. It was bound to him, tied to his very soul.

A whisper, cold and insidious, curled into his mind almost as if a prophecy.

"In the blood of the fallen, your power is found,

A link to the past where secrets abound.

Through darkness you'll rise, through fire you'll tread,

For glory and ruin, both paths will be spread."

Leylin reached out, his fingers trembling. The moment he touched the book, a torrent of memories and knowledge invaded his consciousness.

He saw visions of ancient beings dissected on dark altars, their essence extracted and woven into something new. He saw magic twisted, fused, and shattered—each experiment a gamble between glory and monstrous ruin. He felt it's hunger, the need to consume, refine, and dominate.

Then, he felt it.

Something awakening within him—something vast, ancient, and utterly terrifying.

His soul burned as unseen chains snapped one by one, releasing a presence long sealed away.

Before him, a world materialized, his body floating in the void, his limbs reduced to just flesh and bone. The world pulsed like a living thing, veins twisting across it, feeding the book with power.

The book's name—Cursed Bloodline Codex

Knowledge flooded his mind. Symbols translated themselves into meaning. Words twisted into understanding.

Powers could be extracted from blood, even the very nature of an existence can be stripped away for him to devour, but it needs to follow rituals which always carried risk—dangerous, intricate, and never without consequence. The wrong fusion could twist his very soul, warping him into something inhuman. If he took too much, if he became too greedy… he would no longer be himself.

A fate not unfamiliar to him. Leylin's lips curled into a slow, dark smirk.

"What a fascinating power."

The book snapped shut, vanishing into his very being. His vision blurred once more, the strange world melting away.

---

The world snapped back into focus.

The battlefield was unchanged, No one had noticed. Leylin slowly straightened, wiping the remaining blood from his face.

He glanced down at his hands, a faint tremor running through them—not of fear, but of exhilaration.

Something within him had changed. Leylin didn't have much time to fathom what happened just now, when suddenly he heard a roaring voice.

"All of you stupid and lowly beasts, you actually dare to bother the rest of the venerated lord Magi! Only death can be your eternal home!"

"Mazzerda —Karachi!"
