Chapter 4: Warp Daemon
After confirming the reward, Guilliman nodded.
This golden finger of his isn’t too bad, it’s usable at least.
Utilizing the dark matter computing technology in conjunction with the Primaris Space Marine technology in the hands of the archmagos dominus, Cawl.
He could produce a batch of brand-new Space Marine to combat traitors and the combat forces of the Chaos Gods.
With the existing Space Marines of the Imperium, they appeared somewhat feeble when facing these combat forces of the Chaos Gods.
Many times, they had to rely on sheer numbers to win.
The casualties in battles were horrendous, it’s too painful to look at.
Being able to create such a powerful new army would help him maintain the territory of the Imperium of Man.
Guilliman had no choice; either he helped the Imperium of Man defeat chaos, or he would be captured and enslaved by the Chaos Gods.
As for escaping from this place? It’s better not to even dream of something like that.
The nearest galaxy from the Milky Way was hundreds of thousands of light-years away.
How could he escape without the use of the Astronomican?
Even if the escape ship could reach the maximum speed allowed in space, he still wouldn’t make it.
The time required to travel from the Milky Way to other galaxies at the speed of light was hundreds of thousands of years. If the ship broke down en route, it would be drifting until death.
Using the warp for escape was even more dangerous.
The realm of the Immaterium was the territory of the Chaos Gods. Without the protection of the God Emperor of Mankind’s Astronomican, the Geller force field would collapse in a matter of days.
Without the Geller force field, the Chaos Gods could do whatever they pleased.
Another unrealistic aspect of escape was that other places might not necessarily be safer than here.
In this universe, there is another fearsome faction that is coming from the galaxy beyond the milky way, the Tyranids.
This race came from outside the Milky Way, a terrifying species that devoured everything in its path, driven into the Milky Way by more powerful entities.
One can only imagine what happened!
The world outside the Milky Way might be even worse than this chaos infected galaxy.
Escape might lead to an even more tragic outcome.
He could only win, or he would die in misery. There was no third option.
“Let’s go out and clean them up.” Guilliman walked out, his eyes filled with terrible anger, and the God Emperor of Mankind’s Sword in his hand burned even brighter.
Calgar, Celestine, Amalrich, and other survivors regrouped and gathered beside Guilliman.
The thunderous gunfire rang outside the sanctuary as the Imperial Guard continued to fight, attempting to drive the invaders of chaos out of their homeland.
Macragge City, this magnificent hive city, was engulfed in battles everywhere.
Factories, spaceports, everywhere echoed with the sounds of combat.
Space Marines from all over the Imperium, wearing different types of armor, were fighting against the forces of chaos.
The Astra Militarum and the Macragge Guardsmen continued to fire, using the defenses constructed along the streets to shoot down those accursed chaos cultists and daemons.
Laser beams cut through the battlefield filled with a pungent smell, incinerating those monsters and taking their lives.
But there were so many monsters and traitors, their numbers were staggering and unimaginable.
They kept attacking the loyalists of the Imperium one wave after another, pushing the defenders further back.
“Blood for the Blood God! Skull for the Skull Throne! Charge!” The cultists, covered in bone spurs, had become monstrous and were waving their weapons, shouting loudly, inspiring their followers to keep charging the defense line.
With grotesque appearances and bodies covered in tumors, a cultist screamed in an unusually excited manner, “For the loving gift of the grandfather! for the end of all things!”
Other traitors also shouted various blasphemous slogans.
The Imperial Guard continued to hold on, maintaining the collapsing front line. Behind them was the last refuge of Macragge City; they had no more retreat.
The people huddled in the sanctuary, praying to the God Emperor of Mankind’s statue.
“Save us, please.”
“Please don’t let us suffer from those evil monsters.”
“Save us.”
As the sounds of gunfire and the combat forces of the Chaos Gods’ mad shouts grew closer, their fear intensified.
Once they fell into the hands of the combat forces of the Chaos Gods, death would no longer be a rest but the beginning of another torment.
Thinking of this, they shuddered instantly, all consumed by fear.
The commander of the Astra Militarum responsible for defending the Macragge City sanctuary also fell into despair.
Facing the surging Chaos army, he could only squeeze every bit of potential out of each unit, fighting for a bit more time on the front line.
Over a hundred regiments had been ground down in this bloody battle, countless Astra Militarum died on this battlefield.
The only hope was for the Imperial fleet to regain control of the near-Earth orbit. Only then could they win the war.
Bodies piled up on the battlefield, and the crimson blood flowed on the ground. The pungent smell permeated the air.
The brutality of war became even more despairing.
No glimpse of victory in sight.
The connection between the surface and space had been severed, and no one knew how the space battle was going.
Did they win? Or did they retreat?
Green flies with a buzzing sound swarmed over fallen fresh corpses, laying eggs in the flesh, introducing the grandfather’s benevolence, those bizarre viruses and bacteria into the bodies, resurrecting them as plague-ridden corpses.
The defensive posture of the guards became more and more precarious, while the enemy’s offensive grew stronger. The power from the 4 Chaos Gods was taking hold, and the eerie murmurs were tempting the soldiers who still wanted to resist, trying to drag them into the sweet garden owned by the loving grandfather.
“Are we finished?” Watching the battlefield deteriorate, the commander’s heart was filled with despair. How could they win such a battle?
Continuing the fight was a dead end.
They had no chance to turn the tide.
No high-altitude fire support, no armored vehicles, no Titan knights, and no reserves.
The commander of the Astra Militarum looked up at the sky. Even the air superiority had been completely taken away by the enemy. What chance did they have left?
A pessimistic mood spread among all the soldiers, and despair was written on their faces.
Many of them gripped their weapons tightly, trying to calm their trembling bodies.
A few old veterans made the eagle salute, offering their last prayers.
Seeing the daemons and traitors sweeping in again, they silently prayed that their souls could escape the hand of the chaos gods.
Suddenly, the eerie murmurs vanished.
Everyone felt an unnamed power surging within them, dispelling their pains, fatigue, and despair, making their bodies strong again.
The mad joy on the faces of the Chaos Space Marine, daemons, and cultists also disappeared, replaced by a terrible fear.
Guilliman walked out of the sanctuary as if a war demi-god filled with rage had stepped out of heaven into reality. The God Emperor of Mankind’s Sword burned intensely, and wherever its light touched, the extradimensional shadows continuously disintegrated and fled.
“I have returned!” Guilliman roared, taking brisk strides, with Celestine and others following closely behind him, charging toward the massive army of daemons and traitors.
They were like sharp spears, piercing directly into the enemy’s formation. Upon contact, a terrible slaughter ensued, with dismembered limbs flying everywhere.
“Counterattack, everyone, charge!” Seeing the Saint, the Grand Marshal, and the chapter masters guarding a semi-divine figure that only appeared in legends, the battlefield commander realized that the plan of the archmagos dominus Belisarius Cawl had succeeded. One of the God Emperor of Mankind’s Primarchs had been resurrected.
Victory beckoned to them, and mankind will prosper forever and the glory of the Imperium were assured.
The army commander roared toward the surviving soldier and gave the order for the entire army to charge.
“For humanity! for the Emperor!.”
“Rise! Fight! For Humanity!”
Hearing the order, soldiers crawled out of the trenches, shouting their oaths and charging toward the now trembling chaotic army.
“For humanity! for the Emperor!” A regular soldier yelled with all his might, inhaling the toxic fumes of the battlefield, causing him to cough violently. But he didn’t hesitate at all; he thrust his knife, crafted using mono-molecular technology, into the nearest cultist’s body.
Another soldier emerging from the trench fired his laser gun at the enemy he saw, venting his inner rage.
The situation in Macragge instantly reversed. The combat forces of the Chaos Gods continued to lose the territory they had occupied, defeated by the counterattack of humanity.
Roar! A furious roar signaled the failure of the chaotic army. The cultists sacrificed their followers’ lives to summon a flaming Daemon of Khorne.
The Daemon was massive, strong, and covered in metal-like bone spurs, looking extremely terrifying. Its mere presence sent shivers down the spines of many.
The followers were drained of their life force immediately, and then they self-combusted into ashes.
“Primarch?!” Using the sacrifice, the Daemon entered the real space from the extradimensional space and immediately detected Guilliman’s presence.
With flaming dual pupils, it locked onto the Primarch on the battlefield.
The Primarch’s skull would be the best gift it can offer to the Blood God. It revealed a sinister smile and once again released a world-shaking roar, charging straight towards Guilliman.
