Chapter 78: Warhammer: Lord of the Endless Monster Horde [78]
In this strange world, one can travel freely without worrying about the intrusion of Warp demons. Although it exists in the gap between the Warp and the real universe, it is completely isolated from both.
The Old Ones were incredibly powerful. The Jakaero, the Orks, and even the Eldar, who possess immense psychic abilities and can even give birth to Chaos Gods like Slaanesh, were all created by them.
The Orks, however, have severely degenerated and are far weaker than they were originally. The ancient Ork figurine in the collectible set is a true representation of their former might—an ancient Ork warrior capable of rivaling a Primarch.
Just how powerful must the Necrons and the C'tan have been to have defeated and even exterminated the Old Ones? No wonder the Warp Gods did not dare to enter the material universe on a large scale back then. The C'tan were the true rulers of the material universe—gods of the physical realm.
After the extinction of the Old Ones, the vast Webway they had built was inherited by the Eldar. When the War in Heaven ended, the Eldar became the biggest beneficiaries, reigning supreme over the entire galaxy. But this race lacked ambition!
Sixty million years have passed, yet they have shown no progress at all. Instead, they decayed to the point of bringing about their downfall. What a waste of the Webway!
"What an incredible world, Lord Rhodes! This is the first time I've ever seen such a miraculous place. If humanity had this kind of travel technology, we wouldn't have to rely on the dangerous Warp anymore."
Titus had now arrived beside Rhodes, looking at the Webway before him with admiration.
Traveling through the Warp was always perilous. At any moment, one's life could be at risk. A sudden, small-scale Warp storm could easily destroy an Imperial war barge. Even during a routine voyage, one had to be prepared for all kinds of unexpected occurrences. Warp demons appearing on one's ship and launching attacks were all too common.
As long as the Gellar Field wasn't too severely damaged and remained operational, powerful demons couldn't enter the ship. However, aside from Warp demons, other troubles could arise—such as arriving at a destination months or days earlier than expected, or even thousands of years late.
In the Warp, time was meaningless. There were many recorded instances in the Imperium where ships that should have arrived on time instead appeared centuries or even millennia later.
"Warp travel is indeed extremely dangerous. The Emperor once planned to create a human-controlled Webway to avoid using the Warp. Unfortunately, the project was sabotaged by the traitors, forcing the Emperor to sit on the Golden Throne indefinitely," Rhodes explained.
"Lord Rhodes, do you know about the Emperor's past? It seems like you are very knowledgeable about these matters," Titus asked.
For ordinary Imperial citizens, and even for an Astartes like him, knowledge about the Emperor was extremely limited.
How did the Emperor end up on the Golden Throne? What exactly happened during the Great Betrayal? These things were classified at the highest level in the Imperium.
"I do know everything about the Great Betrayal—the Emperor's regrets, and the regrets of humanity as a whole. If you're interested, I can tell you about it sometime. By the way, how are the Chaplain and those two battle-brothers?" Rhodes inquired.
The stories of the Emperor, the Great Crusade, and the Horus Heresy could take days and nights to recount.
"The two battle-brothers are fine. After waking up, they returned to their posts. As for the Chaplain, I explained the situation to him, and he wishes to meet you," Titus responded.
A supposed Chosen of the Emperor had emerged, even going so far as to indirectly recruit a large number of Deathwatch Space Marines. This naturally made the Chaplain uneasy, prompting him to seek a direct meeting with Rhodes for confirmation.
"Hahaha! Of course, that's fine. But I don't have time right now. Let's wait until we reach Commorragh and settle down first," Rhodes said.
It would take only a few hours to reach Commorragh from here. Once there, Rhodes would need to find a place to hide his ship.
Commorragh's territory was vast, and hiding his mothership in stealth mode within some obscure corner wouldn't be too difficult. If necessary, Rhodes could even store the mothership in his system's space and have his Space Marines hide elsewhere.
"Understood, Lord Rhodes! I will inform Chaplain Magro," Titus replied.
"Alright. For now, stay on the ship. I need to prepare for some things," Rhodes instructed.
"Lord Rhodes, if you need us in battle, just call. We are always ready," Titus said before turning and leaving the control room.
Once Titus had left, Rhodes opened his system's shop interface.
Bemstar had slaughtered over ten thousand Dark Eldar, earning Rhodes tens of thousands of system gold coins. Combining that with the gold earned from clearing out the Tyranid forces on the ground and leftover currency, Rhodes now had over 120,000 system coins.
As usual, he kept 20,000 coins for emergencies and decided to use the remaining 100,000 for a hundred consecutive draws in the beginner store.
The monsters in the beginner system store might have unique applications, and Rhodes intended to experiment with them for maximum benefit. This time, he opted for random selection rather than specifying a particular monster.
After several previous draws, he had accumulated a substantial amount of low-tier monster fragments. He hoped this draw would allow him to synthesize a few complete monsters.
The beginner system store flashed with golden light as 110 loot boxes appeared. As they opened, countless monster fragments spilled out.
Gomora, Telesdon, Dada, Bemular, Gomas, Kacchies, Eleking, Muruchi, and even two Mech-Seven fragments appeared.
Among the 110 draws, there were over ten instances of obtaining two fragments at once. Additionally, the system unexpectedly awarded him a mystery gift—a free monster enhancement.
This ability enhancement was extremely valuable. If purchased from the enhancement store, it would cost a massive amount of gold, with prices escalating exponentially.
Unfortunately, free enhancement opportunities couldn't be accumulated. Whenever one appeared, it was automatically used on the next monster enhancement. Otherwise, saving it until enhancements cost millions or even tens of millions of gold would be the best strategy.
Still, better than nothing.
After finishing the draws, Rhodes checked his monster fragments. This time, he had hit the jackpot. Combined with his previous collections, he now had enough to synthesize three complete monsters, with another monster only two fragments short of completion.
The first fully synthesizable monster was Ultra-Ancient Beast Melba, standing 57 meters tall and weighing several tons. It was a heavyweight contender with aerial combat capabilities and the ability to fire Melba Sonic Beams. However, its battle history was unimpressive—it debuted in the first episode of Ultraman Tiga and was immediately destroyed by Tiga's Lampart Energy Ball, making it the fastest monster to be defeated.
The second was Ultra-Ancient Monster Golza, a heavyweight at 62 meters tall. It excelled in melee combat and had abilities like Ultra-Sonic Beams, Fireball Attacks, and Magic Flame Blasts. Additionally, its chest could absorb energy attacks, though not as effectively as Birdon. It also had a Binding Beam to restrain opponents.
Golza was a star monster with various forms. One of its evolutions, Flame Golza, could be achieved simply by placing it in a lava-rich area for a few months. No special purchases were needed—just natural evolution.
Golza and Melba were also valuable fusion materials for creating Emperor Golbar, Torreia King, and Five Emperor Faib King.
Rhodes synthesized both.
Now, he just needed to find a planet with lava to evolve Golza into Flame Golza.
The third monster was significantly weaker—Freezing Monster Guigass—a white ape-like ice monster.
At 40 meters tall and weighing only a few tons, it was among the weakest giant monsters. It debuted as Red King's sidekick, fighting Dorako but losing even with Red King's help. It was so weak that humans defeated it before Ultraman even stepped in.
It had no achievements, no strength, and consistently got defeated in later appearances.
A true bottom-tier monster.
A trash gorilla.
Maybe he should just sell it?
