Chapter 8: People from the Kingdom
In the bond between mother and child, pure love is evident.
In contrast, the love between a man and a woman, no matter how poetically described, often boils down to one thing: lust.
Lust, akin to riding a wild horse, is chaotic and unrestrained.
In a kingdom ruled by a wise king, there was a man sitting slumped in a park. People glanced at him curiously.
Was it because he was famous? One might hope so, but no.
A young boy walking with his mother noticed the man and asked, "Mom, what's wrong with that man?"
"You need to work hard when you grow up," she replied, "so you don't end up like him." She led her son away, leaving the man to his solitude.
What was actually happening to the man who seemed so pitiable?
Exactly right! He was broke.
And who was that broke guy? Yes, that's me!
Out of money and unable to afford food, I muttered to myself, "Do I have to eat leaves again?"
"I wish there were a thief with a high bounty in this kingdom!" I kept grumbling. "Hungry... thirsty... need food..."
As I continued to lament my fate, a group of men clad in iron armor approached me, carrying sharp spears and swords.
"Excuse me, are you free?" one of them asked.
"I'm as free as can be!" I jumped up, hoping for a job.
"The kingdom needs a temporary servant to replace a sick one. Would you be willing to serve?"
"Forget being a servant, I'd be willing to be a gardener too, as long as it's paid!" I replied eagerly, my hunger momentarily forgotten.
"Okay... follow us," said one of the guards. As we walked toward the palace, he asked, "By the way, what's your name?"
"My name is Arche." I hesitated to say more, knowing they wouldn't believe me.
"My name is Brian," the guard who had been speaking with me introduced himself.
"So we're going straight to the palace?" I asked.
"Yeah, so what?"
"Aren't you going to test me?"
Brian sighed. "The king said we just need to find people. No need for tests."
"Why?"
"Who knows..."
We stopped in front of a long staircase, the only way to the palace. "Seriously?" I exclaimed.
"Don't worry, we'll climb these stairs together," said Brian, removing his helmet. He was friendlier than I had expected.
"You climb these stairs every day in that thick armor?" I looked at the daunting stairs again. "I'll just use my broomstick."
I pulled out my broomstick and stood on it.
"You can use magic?!" Brian was surprised to see me standing calmly on the broomstick.
"I can only control a flying broomstick and do a bit of elemental magic... though my elemental magic is pretty useless." I confessed. "I can barely make a small fire that can't even burn wood."
In the end, I had to climb the stairs instead of using my broomstick. "Why can't I ride my broomstick?!" I complained.
"You have to respect those of us who can't use magic," one of the guards replied sharply.
"You guys are so annoying... I'm really hungry..." I grumbled as we ascended the long flight of stairs.
"Shall we go to the bar tonight? It's not your day to guard the palace, right?" one of the guards chatted with Brian.
"That's a good idea."
"You guys are cheating; today is my turn to guard the palace."
"Patience is a virtue!"
The guards chuckled amongst themselves, while I struggled to ignore my hunger.
"Hey Arche, do you want to come too?" asked a guard with maroon-red hair.
"Hm...? I'll come if you pay me," I replied, eyeing them cautiously.
"He seems really broke, doesn't he...?" one guard remarked to another.
Finally, after the arduous climb, we stood before the magnificent palace gates.
"Oh..? Guards, who have you brought?" a melodious voice echoed.
We turned to see a beautiful woman in a dress befitting her elegance. "Good morning, Princess Seraphina," Brian greeted respectfully.
Princess Seraphina smiled warmly. I knew I had to make a good impression.
With a slight bow, despite my slightly disheveled hair, I introduced myself, "Good morning, Princess. My name is Arche, and I am eager to serve in this magnificent palace."
"Ah! So you're here to replace our sick servant? Thank you for offering to help," she replied graciously.
"It's my pleasure, Princess. Thank you for accepting me," I said, striving to be more polite than usual.
"But you do look quite disheveled, don't you...?" Seraphina observed.
"I apologize. This opportunity came suddenly, and I wasn't prepared," I explained. Seraphina approached and tidied my hair, surprising both me and the guards.
"My father—the King—prefers his servants to be presentable. You might get turned away if you appear like this," she advised gently, smoothing down my hair.
"There, it's done!" My hair now looked neater than before.
"Thank you very much, Princess," I said gratefully.
Seraphina nodded approvingly. "Brian, come with me."
Brian replaced his helmet and followed the princess obediently.
We entered the palace, and I was in awe of its grandeur. As we walked, Brian leaned in and whispered, "Hey Arche, you're really lucky to have caught Princess Seraphina's attention like that."
"Really? I was quite surprised," I whispered back.
"I wish I were in your shoes," he admitted.
Seraphina, overhearing us, asked curiously, "What are you two talking about?"
"Oh, it's nothing," I assured her. We then arrived at a spacious room.
As we entered the grand hall, I noticed rows of guards standing tall, each holding spears.
At the far end of the room, a throne exuded majesty, where a dignified and wise-looking king sat.
"Oh..? Seraphina, who have you brought before us?" The king's voice resonated through the hall.
"He is the one who wishes to serve in our palace, father," Princess Seraphina replied respectfully.
"So, you seek to become a servant in our palace?" The king's gaze fixed upon me with scrutiny.
I endeavored to maintain utmost politeness, hoping to earn his acceptance.
"Your Majesty, may I have a moment of your time to introduce myself?"
"You have my attention. Proceed with your introduction."
The king answered
"My name is Arche, and I am honored to present myself as a candidate for temporary service in your esteemed palace."
"I have previous experience serving temporarily in other kingdoms, where I honed my skills in communication, culinary arts, and various tasks essential to maintaining a distinguished household."
"I am dedicated to upholding the standards of decorum, discretion, and service excellence expected within your royal court"
"Your Majesty, I am eager to contribute my expertise and commitment to the honor of your court. I respectfully request the opportunity to serve under your guidance."
The king thought for a moment and then said
"My dear Arche, while your skills and experience are commendable, the protocol in my court typically requires a gesture of respect such as kneeling when presenting oneself before royalty."
Kneeling was not something I had ever done willingly in my life.
"However, your confidence is duly noted, and I appreciate your eagerness to serve," the king's voice resonated with a measured tone.
"Your request for temporary service shall be granted under the condition that you adhere strictly to our customs and protocols. Welcome to the palace."
With those words, I was accepted into the palace as a temporary servant.
Led by a senior servant named Leticia, I was escorted to a simple room designated for servants—a norm within the palace's hierarchy. Here, I was provided with a uniform.
"Thank you," I expressed my gratitude as Leticia handed me the attire.
"Excited for your first day?" Leticia's voice held a warm anticipation.
Suddenly, a man entered who bore a striking resemblance to Seraphina. He exuded an air of indifference and coldness.
"Good morning, Prince Cedric," Leticia greeted him politely.
The prince, without acknowledging the greeting, walked past us.
"Is he a prince...?" I wondered aloud.
"He is the crown prince," Leticia confirmed, her tone respectful yet tinged with reservation.
"Arche," Leticia's soft smile conveyed patience as she continued, "Prince Cedric has a rather reserved demeanor, wouldn't you say?"
I shrugged, candidly expressing my observation. "Reserved? I'd call it more cold and rough around the edges."
Leticia chuckled softly, her demeanor a soothing contrast to my blunt assessment. "Everyone has their own way of carrying themselves, especially someone in his position."
"Yeah, but ignoring a simple 'good morning'? That's a bit much, even for a prince," I remarked, leaning casually against the wall.
Leticia's gaze softened, her expression thoughtful. "Perhaps he carries heavy responsibilities. The weight of royalty can burden even the most poised."
"Or maybe he's simply not accustomed to interacting with ordinary folks like us," I suggested, folding my arms across my chest.
"Possible," Leticia agreed gently. "But remember, Arche, in the palace, respect and decorum are paramount, even if outwardly it seems he disregards it."
I nodded, absorbing her wisdom. "Got it, Letecia. I'll keep that in mind. Though I doubt he'll warm up to us anytime soon."
"Patience, Arche," Letecia advised, her voice a calming reassurance. "Time may reveal unforeseen changes."
I sighed inwardly, contemplating the intricacies of palace life. "Let's hope so. Otherwise, it'll be a challenging stay in this palace."
"Indeed," Letecia responded with a knowing smile.
"Alright, I'll get changed now," I announced.
"I'll wait outside since I need to show you around the kingdom."
"Sure, but no peeking, alright...?" I chuckled, closing and locking the door behind me.
I slipped into the servant uniform, pleasantly surprised by how well it fit my frame. "Hm!"
Emerging from my room, I found Leticia waiting outside. "Wow! It really suits you!"
"I could make anything look good," I boasted with a smirk.
"You really remind me of Aeon," she remarked casually.
"Who's that?" I asked, genuinely intrigued by the name.
"He's our old servant who's currently sick," she explained.
"Sick? So he's still kicking around somewhere?" I leaned in closer, almost nose-to-nose with Leticia.
Startled by the sudden proximity, Leticia blushed slightly. "He's gone back to his hometown..."
If Aeon was alive, Chronia's suicide was in vain. And how had Chronia, who'd traveled the world, never crossed paths with Aeon in this kingdom?
"Got a picture of him?" I inquired eagerly, inching even closer.
Leticia gently pushed me back. "Hey, personal space!"
"Oops, my bad. Got a little carried away there," I chuckled nervously.
Digging into her pocket, Leticia produced a photograph. It showed a man who bore an uncanny resemblance to me; side by side, we might've passed for twins.
"So, this is Aeon. He really does look a lot like you, doesn't he?" Leticia remarked, turning to me for confirmation.
"Looks like Aeon's still alive. I've got to catch up with him about Chronia," I mused aloud.
"Do you know where his hometown is?" I pressed, eager for more information.
Leticia hesitated briefly, a flicker of uncertainty crossing her face. "Um... Sorry, I don't know," she replied cheerfully, quickly changing the subject. "Anyway, let's tour this magnificent palace so you can get familiar with all the key spots."
We stepped out of the simple servant's room into the grand hallways of the palace, where the opulence of the decor starkly contrasted with the simplicity of our quarters.
Letecia led the way with a graceful stride, her hands clasped in front of her.
The marble floors gleamed under the soft light filtering through the high arched windows, and the walls were adorned with intricate tapestries depicting the kingdom's rich history.
As we walked, I couldn't help but marvel at the grandeur of it all.
"This way, Arche," Letecia called softly, her voice almost a whisper in the vast hallway. "We'll start with the Great Hall."
We entered a massive room, with a high ceiling supported by ornate pillars.
The long dining table, set for a feast, seemed to stretch endlessly, and the chandeliers overhead sparkled with countless crystals.
"Wow," I said, my eyes wide.
"I feel like I'm in a giant's dining room. Do they serve food or just play hide-and-seek with the cutlery?"
Letecia chuckled lightly, her smile indulgent.
"The Great Hall is used for royal banquets and official gatherings. And no, Arche, the cutlery remains in its place."
She led me down another hallway, past various rooms, each more impressive than the last.
We passed the library, its walls lined with towering bookshelves filled with ancient tomes and scrolls.
I couldn't resist a comment.
"Do you think anyone has actually read all those books, or are they just there to make the place look smart?"
"Some might say the books serve both purposes," Letecia replied with a twinkle in her eye.
"Knowledge is as much a decoration as it is a tool."
We moved on to the royal gardens, a sprawling expanse of greenery filled with meticulously maintained flower beds, fountains, and hedges sculpted into fantastical shapes.
The air was fragrant with the scent of blooming roses and jasmine.
"Let me guess," I said, grinning.
"They have a whole team of squirrels working as garden gnomes?"
Letecia laughed softly, shaking her head. "I'm afraid not, Arche. The gardens are tended by skilled gardeners, though your imagination is quite charming."
As we continued our tour, we saw Seraphina sitting pensively on a stone bench in the garden. Her hair was slightly disheveled, and a gloomy expression clouded her face.
"Why is she so gloomy?" I asked bluntly.
"Since her mother passed away, she's often like this," Letecia replied, her voice laced with concern. "It's best if we don't disturb her."
Just then, Seraphina turned toward us, catching us mid-conversation. We must have seemed like we were gossiping about her. She began to approach us, and I instinctively looked around for a place to hide.
"You must remain calm, Arche," Letecia whispered, her tone both firm and soothing.
Seraphina stopped in front of us, her gaze shifting between Letecia and me. "Arche, correct? And Letecia?"
"It is an honor to see you again, Princess Seraphina," Letecia said with a respectful bow.
"The pleasure is mine, Letecia," Seraphina replied with grace. "And you as well, Arche."
I wondered why only Letecia had noticed my resemblance to Aeon, while others like Seraphina and the King seemed oblivious.
"What do you think of the palace, Arche? Isn't it the grandest in the kingdom?" Seraphina asked, her previous gloominess replaced by a curious and almost regal demeanor.
The answer seemed obvious to me. "Of course, because this is the only palace in this kingd-"
Before I could finish, Letecia hit my back hard, making me wince in pain.
"I apologize, Princess. I must teach him better manners."
"It's quite alright, Letecia. After all, he speaks the truth," Seraphina said with a light laugh. "You are quite an amusing person, aren't you, Arche?"
"Sorry again, Princess. I'll take him away now," Letecia said, her tone firm and polite. It felt like I was a pet being scolded by my master.
"Until next time, Princess," I managed to say, trying to regain some composure.
"Until we meet again, both of you," Seraphina replied, her mood seemingly lifted by our brief encounter.
We continued our tour, eventually reaching the royal kitchens. The bustling activity inside contrasted sharply with the serene quiet of the rest of the palace.
Chefs and servants moved with purpose, preparing meals with precision.
"Now this is my kind of place," I said, inhaling deeply.
"Smells like heaven. Do you think they'd notice if I snagged a little taste?"
"Only if you were quick enough," Letecia replied, her tone laced with gentle amusement.
"But I would advise against it, unless you wish to start your first day with a reprimand."
Our final stop was the throne room, an awe-inspiring space dominated by the regal throne at its far end. The room exuded authority and power, its grandeur designed to inspire awe and respect.
"Well, here it is," Letecia said softly. "The heart of the palace."
I looked around, feeling a mix of awe and trepidation. "Do you think they'd mind if I tried out the throne? Just for a minute?"
Letecia's smile was both kind and amused. "I'm afraid that privilege is reserved for royalty, Arche. But I appreciate your enthusiasm."
As we made our way back to the servant's quarters, I couldn't help but feel a growing appreciation for the palace and its many wonders.
Letecia's gentle guidance and my own irreverent humor made the tour both informative and entertaining.
"Thanks for the tour, Letecia," I said, genuinely grateful. "I think I'm starting to get the hang of this place."
"You're welcome, Arche," she replied warmly. "With time, I'm sure you'll find your place here. Just remember, respect and decorum are key."
"I'll do my best," I promised
A man's voice echoed through the corridor, drawing our attention. We turned to see Cedric, the crown prince, approaching with purpose.
"Hey! You there, servant!" His voice carried authority as he pointed directly at me. "You, manservant, accompany me at sunset."
"I am Arche, the new servant of this palace, Your Highness," I responded with a respectful bow. "I understand, Prince."
Cedric swiftly issued his instructions before departing just as abruptly. It was unexpected that my first task would be to accompany the prince himself.
"He left in a hurry, didn't he...?" I murmured to Leticia.
"Indeed," Leticia whispered back, her voice tinged with insight.
"There's something I'm curious about, Leticia," I continued.
"Hm? What is it?" She listened attentively.
"Why does no one else besides you mention my resemblance to Aeon?" I questioned, puzzled.
"Well, important figures in this kingdom often overlook us," Leticia explained calmly. "There are many servants here, and they believe remembering our names is of little importance."
Her answer resonated with me, though it was a bitter truth to accept.
"But the princess remembers your name," I noted, recalling Seraphina's earlier gesture.
"That's because we have a close relationship," Leticia replied softly.
I nodded, beginning to grasp the dynamics within the palace hierarchy.
"The sun is setting soon. You should go, Arche," Leticia advised, bringing my focus back to the present task.
"Ah, you're right," I acknowledged, preparing to fulfill my duty as ordered by the prince.
With a mix of curiosity and trepidation, I made my way to the grand entrance where Cedric was already waiting, looking as aloof and indifferent as ever.
"Ah, there you are," he said without much enthusiasm. "Let's get this over with."
"Yes, Prince Cedric," I replied, trying to keep my tone respectful despite the knot of nerves in my stomach.
We set off on foot, making our way through the lush palace gardens. The scent of blooming flowers hung in the air, and the sound of distant fountains created a soothing backdrop.
I walked a step behind Cedric, observing his stiff posture and the way he seemed lost in thought.
"So, where are we headed, Prince Cedric?" I asked, trying to sound casual.
"The archives," Cedric replied curtly.
"I need to retrieve some documents."
"Ah, the archives," I echoed, buying myself a moment to think of my next move.
"I hear they're quite vast. Must be a lot of interesting history stored there."
Cedric glanced at me briefly before looking ahead again. "Yes, the archives contain the kingdom's entire recorded history. It's important to keep them well-maintained."
"Must be a lot of responsibility for the royal family to oversee all that," I said, injecting a note of admiration into my voice.
"It is," Cedric agreed, though he didn't elaborate.
We walked in silence for a few moments, the path winding through a grove of ancient oak trees.
The shadows grew longer, and I felt the coolness of the evening begin to settle in.
"I've always wondered," I began again, keeping my tone light, "what it must be like to grow up in the palace. It must be a unique experience, different from the rest of us."
Cedric's gaze hardened.
"Unique, yes. But not always in the ways one might think."
"Oh?" I prompted, trying to sound merely curious.
"People assume it's all luxury and ease," Cedric continued, his voice taking on a bitter edge.
"But there's a heavy burden that comes with it. Expectations, scrutiny, the constant pressure to live up to a legacy."
I nodded, sensing an opportunity.
"I can't imagine how tough that must be. Especially for someone as young as you, having to balance it all."
"It's not something I chose," Cedric said quietly. "But it's my duty."
We approached the entrance to the archives, a grand stone building with imposing wooden doors.
Cedric paused before pushing them open, glancing at me with a hint of curiosity.
"Why do you ask so many questions, Arche?" he asked, his tone less guarded than before.
I shrugged, offering a disarming smile. "Just trying to understand, Prince Cedric. Makes my job easier if I know more about the people I serve."
Cedric seemed to consider this for a moment before nodding. "Fair enough."
As we stepped into the dimly lit archives, I couldn't help but feel a small sense of accomplishment.
The archives were a vast labyrinth of shelves and scrolls, dimly lit by flickering lanterns. We reached a particular section, and Cedric began scanning the shelves.
"Help me find the records on the northern provinces," he instructed, pointing to a row of ancient-looking scrolls.
"They should be around here somewhere."
"Of course, Prince Cedric," I replied, moving to the shelves and starting to sift through the documents.
As we worked, the silence between us felt less oppressive than before. Cedric seemed absorbed in his task, yet there was a sense of ease that hadn't been there earlier.
"Arche," Cedric suddenly said, breaking the silence. "What do you think of the kingdom?"
I glanced at him, surprised by the question. "Well, it's... It's impressive. The palace, the gardens, the history. It's unlike anything I've ever seen."
Cedric nodded thoughtfully. "And what about the people? The way things are run?"
I hesitated, sensing this was a delicate topic. "From what little I've seen, it seems like the kingdom is well-managed. The people respect the royal family, and there's a sense of order."
Cedric sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Respect is important. My father always says that a ruler must earn the respect of his people. Not demand it."
"He sounds like a wise king," I said, genuinely curious now. "Do you agree with him?"
Cedric's expression softened, a rare smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. "I do. My father is a great man. Everything he does is for the good of the kingdom."
As we continued to search, I noticed Cedric's tone becoming more relaxed. It was as if the weight of his responsibilities had lightened, if only for a moment.
"And what about your sister, Princess Seraphina?" I asked, trying to keep my tone casual.
Cedric's eyes lit up, a warmth replacing his usual cold demeanor. "Seraphina... She's special. I worry about her a lot. She's been through so much, especially after our mother passed. I try to be there for her, to protect her."
There it was-a glimpse into Cedric's more personal side. "You two must be close."
"We are," Cedric admitted, his voice softer. "I'd do anything for her. She's not just my sister; she's one of the few people I truly care about."
I was taken aback by this revelation. Cedric, the cold and indifferent crown prince, had a softer side-a "siscon" side, as some might say. It was clear that he had a deep affection for Seraphina, far beyond the typical sibling bond.
After a few more minutes of searching, Cedric finally found the scroll he was looking for. He unrolled it, scanning the contents quickly.
"Here it is," he said, sounding relieved. "This will help us with the plans for the northern provinces."
"Glad we found it," I said, genuinely pleased.
Cedric rolled up the scroll and tucked it under his arm.
"Thank you for your help, Arche. And for the conversation. It's... refreshing."
"Anytime, Prince Cedric," I replied, feeling a newfound respect for the young prince.
As we made our way back through the labyrinthine archives, I couldn't help but feel that I had gained more than just information about the kingdom.
I had seen a side of Cedric that few probably ever did-a side that cared deeply for his family and respected his father's wisdom. And perhaps, in time, I might see even more of the man behind the crown.
As I made my way back to my room, I crossed paths with Leticia and recounted the day's events to her.
Leticia appeared surprised that I had conversed so casually with Prince Cedric. She offered me some jam bread, which I devoured eagerly, having not eaten since earlier.
The night proved hectic with guests, leaving me little time to unwind. I worked tirelessly until midnight, finally relaxing only after the guests had departed. "Phew... Exhausting."
"I'm impressed by your stamina," Leticia remarked, handing me a few cupcakes.
"Can I finally rest now?" I asked hopefully.
"Since it's your hard-earned first day, of course," Leticia nodded in approval.
"Hey, would you like to accompany me tonight?" Leticia's expression held a hopeful glint, her cheeks flushed slightly.
"No, I think I'll head to the bar," I replied bluntly.
Leticia was momentarily taken aback by my refusal. Without further ado, I left the palace, opting to use my broomstick rather than navigating the stairs.
Arriving at the bar, I spotted Brian and several guards already there.
"Ah, Arche! Escaped from the palace, have you?" Brian greeted me with a grin.
"I needed a break, you know! Hey, old man! A beer, and Brian's paying!" I called out cheerfully.
"No problem!" Brian responded, the atmosphere around us lively with the buzz of conversation and occasional bursts of laughter.
"So, Arche," Brian began, raising his tankard in a toast,
"how are you finding life in the palace so far?"
I took a sip of my ale, feeling the warmth spread through me.
"It's quite different from what I'm used to, but I'm adjusting. It's fascinating to be part of such a grand establishment."
Brian nodded knowingly. "Aye, it takes some getting used to, but it grows on you."
I leaned forward, lowering my voice slightly.
"I've heard about a fellow servant named Aeon. They say he bears a striking resemblance to me. Is he still around?"
The guards exchanged looks, and Brian scratched his chin thoughtfully.
"Aeon, eh? Last I heard, he's back in his hometown for a while. Taking a break, they say."
"Ah," I said, feigning nonchalance. "Must be nice to have some time off."
Another guard chimed in.
"Yeah, he's quite close to Prince Cedric, you know. They're practically inseparable when Aeon's around."
That piece of information intrigued me. It explained why Cedric had been surprisingly relaxed and open during our recent interaction in the archives.
It seemed Aeon's absence had something to do with Cedric's demeanor around me.
"Interesting," I murmured, taking another sip of my drink. "I wonder what makes Aeon so special to the prince."
Brian shrugged. "Couldn't say for sure. But I've heard they've been friends since they were kids. Aeon's got a way of bringing out a different side of Cedric, I suppose."
As the night wore on, we continued our conversation, swapping stories and sharing laughs.
The guards offered me insights into palace life and the dynamics among the staff.
By the time we parted ways, I had a clearer understanding of the intricate web of relationships within the palace, including Cedric's unexpected camaraderie with Aeon.
It was a piece of the puzzle that shed light on the complexities of royal life
After a spirited night at the palace bar, I stealthily made my way back to the kingdom, mindful that servants were expected to remain within the palace grounds.
Entering my room, I found Letecia waiting outside, her expression a mix of concern and curiosity. Opening the door, I gestured for her to join me inside.
"Arche, may I speak with you?" Letecia's voice was soft, filled with worry.
"Of course, Letecia," I replied, my words slightly slurred from the evening's indulgence. "Come in. What's on your mind?"
She entered cautiously, watching me as I flopped onto the bed. "It's about Aeon," she began, choosing her words carefully. "He's gone back to his hometown, and I find myself missing his presence."
"Aeon..." I murmured, struggling to focus. "He's like... like a flickering candle in the wind, isn't he?"
Letecia raised an eyebrow, amused by my drunken analogy. "Yes, he does bring a certain brightness to the palace."
Nodding vaguely, I continued, my speech slightly slurred. "Right, right. So, you want me to... what, fill in for him? Keep you company?"
Letecia chuckled softly, nodding. "Something like that, Arche. Would you mind?"
I scratched my head, trying to process through the haze of alcohol. "Mind? Nah, I mean... Aeon's cool, but I'm not really the stand-in type."
Her expression softened, sincerity shining through. "You know, Arche, I think... I think I want you here, not just as a replacement for Aeon, but because... because your presence brings a different warmth."
I blinked, the fog of alcohol lifting enough for her words to sink in. "Oh. Well, that's... nice of you to say, Letecia."
She smiled warmly, placing a gentle hand on my shoulder. "I mean it, Arche. Your presence here... it's comforting."
Suddenly, Letecia began to undress, approaching me with only her underwear on, her lips almost touching mine.
Instinctively, I reacted, delivering a quick jab to her stomach, causing her to collapse unconscious.
As she lay there, my senses sharpened, sobering me up instantly.
"What is she doing?"
"She took advantage of me being drunk," I muttered, shaking my head in disbelief. "Does she think I'm some helpless teenager?"
I glanced at her unconscious form in her underwear. "She really has no shame."
Swiftly, I dressed her back in her uniform and carefully carried her to her room. As I laid her on the bed, I couldn't shake off the surprise of Leticia's actions.
Wandering into the royal kitchen, the effects of alcohol wearing off, I found myself lost in the labyrinthine corridors of the kingdom. "Where am I?"
Suddenly, Seraphina emerged from a grand room, her demeanor weary and her attire disheveled. Catching my prolonged stare, her expression quickly shifted to cheerfulness as she approached.
"Arche? Still up at this hour?" Seraphina greeted me.
"Yeah... I'm used to sleepless nights," I replied casually. "What were you doing, Princess?"
"Hmm? Oh, just talking to my father. Nothing important," she replied, though I sensed a hint of evasion in her tone.
Not wanting to press further, I ventured cautiously, "May I ask about Leticia and the servant named Aeon? Are they close?"
"Aeon? Oh yes, he bears a striking resemblance to you. No wonder I felt I was forgetting something," she mused.
Curious, I tilted my head. "Why do you ask?"
"Just curious," I replied nonchalantly.
"Hmm... You're not planning to steal Leticia away from Aeon while he's away, are you?" Seraphina teased with a mischievous smile.
"Ah, I'd never do that," I assured her.
"Just kidding!" Seraphina chuckled softly. "They are close, and I know that Leticia likes Aeon."
"But the strange thing is, when Aeon returned to his hometown, Leticia didn't seem sad at all..."
"Or maybe she just didn't show it, huh?" Seraphina pondered aloud.
Seraphina's response was more enlightening than I had anticipated. "Thank you very much, Princess."
Then I found myself accompanying Princess Seraphina to her chambers.
As we walked through the quiet corridors, I noticed a fondness in Seraphina's eyes whenever she spoke of her brother, Prince Cedric.
"Arche," Seraphina began, her voice tinged with warmth,
"have I ever told you about Cedric? He's not just my brother; he's my protector, my confidant. I admire him more than anyone else in this world."
I nodded, intrigued by her affectionate demeanor.
"It's clear you have a deep bond with him, Princess. Cedric must mean a lot to you."
Seraphina smiled softly.
"He does. Ever since we were children, he's been there for me. After our mother passed away, Cedric took on so much responsibility. He's always looked out for me."
"That's wonderful to hear," I replied sincerely. "He's lucky to have such a caring sister."
Seraphina chuckled softly. "And I'm lucky to have such a protective brother. Sometimes, I think he worries about me more than necessary."
"Is that so?" I asked, curious.
Seraphina nodded, her eyes sparkling with affection. "He's always been like that. Always looking out for me, making sure I'm safe and happy."
As we reached the ornate doors leading to her chambers, Seraphina turned to me with a grateful smile. "Thank you, Arche. I appreciate your company and your kindness."
"You're welcome, Princess Seraphina," I replied respectfully. "If there's anything else you need, please don't hesitate to ask."
With a nod of gratitude, Seraphina entered her chambers, leaving me with a deeper understanding of her close relationship with Prince Cedric.
"I'd better go back to my room..."
I then walked to my room, when I entered I immediately lay down on the bed
The next day, I woke up at four in the morning, I put on perfume and was ready to work
The grand chamber of the palace echoed with the soft rustle of silk curtains and the occasional crackle of the hearth.
I stood at attention beside the King, assisting him in sorting through a stack of parchment scrolls that detailed various matters of state.
His piercing gaze skimmed over the documents with a mix of scrutiny and weariness, a testament to the weight of his responsibilities.
"Arche," the king said suddenly, his voice deep and measured,
"fetch me the reports from the southern border."
"Of course, Your Majesty," I replied respectfully, swiftly moving to retrieve the requested documents.
As I returned with the scrolls, I seized the opportunity to engage the king in conversation, my curiosity piqued by recent revelations about the royal family.
"Your Majesty," I began cautiously, "how are Prince Cedric and Princess Seraphina faring? They seem devoted to their duties."
The king's expression softened briefly at the mention of his children. "Cedric and Seraphina," he murmured, his voice tinged with a mixture of pride and concern. "They are my greatest treasures."
"Indeed," I agreed, carefully observing his reaction. "I've noticed the bond between them. It's admirable."
The king sighed, setting aside the parchment he had been reviewing.
"Cedric is a capable young man," he said slowly, "but Seraphina... she has a warmth and intuition that sets her apart. She understands the people, their needs."
"And Cedric?" I ventured, sensing an opportunity to delve deeper.
The king's gaze hardened slightly.
"Cedric is... different. He carries the burden of our lineage, our traditions. But he is not yet ready to assume my position."
I nodded thoughtfully, absorbing his words. It was clear that while Cedric held a significant role in the kingdom's future, the king's heart lay particularly close to Seraphina, perhaps seeing in her the qualities he believed essential for leadership.
"Your wisdom guides us all, Your Majesty," I replied respectfully, returning the scrolls to their rightful place.
The king regarded me for a moment, his expression unreadable.
"Thank you, Arche," he said finally. "Your loyalty and discretion are appreciated."
With a bow, I took my leave, pondering the implications of what I had learned.
I then encountered Leticia, and as I saw her, thoughts of last night's incident flooded my mind.

"Oh! Arche! Good morning! Did you just help the king?" she greeted cheerfully.
"Yes, I did," I replied awkwardly, unsure if she remembered what transpired last night.
"Are you okay?" I inquired, concerned about her well-being.
"Hm? My stomach hurts a bit... I forgot why," she replied, trying to recollect.
"Are there any tasks I can do?" I quickly interjected, attempting to steer the conversation away from the uncomfortable topic.
"Ah, the Prince asked me to deliver tea to the palace garden. Could you go there?" Leticia suggested.
"Okay," I agreed reluctantly, still puzzled by her actions from the previous night.
I brought a tray of tea to the palace garden, where Prince Cedric was sitting quietly under the shade of a large tree.
As usual, his handsome face looked cold and indifferent. When I approached, he glanced briefly before returning his gaze forward, as if contemplating something very important.
"Here's your tea, Prince," I said, placing the cup in front of him.
Cedric took the cup gracefully, sipping a little tea before finally speaking.
"Arche, what was your first impression of me?"
I smiled awkwardly, trying to find an answer that wouldn't offend him.
"Hmm, honestly, Prince? My first impression was that you were very... authoritative."
Cedric raised an eyebrow, staring at me sharply. "Is that all?"
I swallowed hard, trying to stay calm. "Well, and also very stern. Like... an imposing ice cube, perhaps?"
Cedric chuckled, a sound I rarely heard from him. "An imposing ice cube, huh? That's a new description."
I smiled wider, relieved that he wasn't offended. "Yes, Prince. You have such a strong and unwavering aura."
He nodded slowly, seemingly satisfied with my answer. After a moment of silence, Cedric spoke again, this time with a softer tone. "Arche, have you ever thought about love?"
The question caught me off guard. "Love, Prince?"
"Yes," he gazed far ahead. "Sometimes I wonder if I can find the right partner. Someone who can understand my true self, not just a prince."
I pondered for a moment, trying to grasp the unease hidden behind his cold demeanor.
"I believe, Prince, there is someone out there who can see you as more than just a prince. Someone who can understand and appreciate you as a person."
Cedric smiled faintly, but his eyes remained serious. "Maybe. But it's hard to believe that someone can see past the title and responsibilities."
I smiled, thinking about the deeper conversation. "Prince, if I may ask, what type of woman do you like?"
Cedric looked at me skeptically. "Why do you suddenly want to know?"
I shrugged casually. "Well, who knows, maybe I can help you find the right partner. After all, every prince must have an ideal type, right?"
Cedric was silent for a moment, seemingly considering his answer. "Someone cheerful, positive, and who makes me feel comfortable. Someone who knows me very well."
I held back a smile, feeling that his description was very similar to someone I knew. "Like... someone who has known you for a long time? Perhaps someone who is always around you?"
Cedric stared at me sharply, but there was a hint of nervousness in his eyes.
"Yes, maybe. Someone like that."
I tried to suppress my laughter.
"Like Princess Seraphina, perhaps? She is very cheerful and positive, and she seems to know you inside and out."
Cedric's face flushed slightly, but he tried to cover his embarrassment by being defensive. "What do you mean, Arche? Seraphina is my sister. That's impossible."
I raised my eyebrows, unable to hide the slight disgust that surfaced.
"Yes, I know she's your sister. But the way you describe her... it sounds very much like feelings that are more than just brotherly."
Cedric frowned, looking disturbed. "You don't know what you're talking about, Arche. It's not what you think."
I nodded slowly, trying to control my facial expression.
"Sure, Prince. I was just trying to make sure. After all, you are often with Princess Seraphina, and it seems like there is something more behind your relationship."
Cedric sighed, frustration clearly visible on his face. "There's nothing like that. Seraphina is my sister, and that's it."
I looked at him seriously. "Alright, Prince. If you say so. But you have to be honest with yourself. Sometimes, the feelings we think aren't there are actually the strongest."
Cedric was silent for a moment, then nodded slowly. "Maybe you're right. But I won't let such feelings interfere with my responsibilities."
I sighed, feeling relieved that this conversation was almost over. "That's for the best, Prince. Your responsibilities as a prince are very important."
Cedric looked at me for a long time, before finally nodding slowly. "Thank you, Arche. Even though you sometimes confuse me, I know you only want the best."
I gave a thin smile. "Anytime, Prince. I'm always ready to help you in any way I can."
I left the garden, my mind restless with a pressing need to verify something.
Entering my room, I meticulously searched every corner. Beneath the bed, my fingers brushed against a thick book. I retrieved it, its cover coated with a fine layer of dust which I blew away with a determined breath.
Opening the book revealed Aeon's diary. "Jackpot," I muttered under my breath, anticipation rising as I delved into its pages.
"After years of wandering, I've found a place to settle down," the diary began. "I've taken up service here and met a good woman named Leticia. We've grown close, like family."
Reading further, I discovered Aeon's hope for Chronia's arrival in the kingdom, a revelation that intrigued and puzzled me.
The diary continued with mundane entries, detailing Aeon's unexpected friendship with Prince Cedric and his observations about the prince's fixation on Princess Seraphina.
These revelations unsettled me, casting shadows of suspicion over the kingdom's inhabitants.
Closing the diary, I secured it in my bag, determined to keep its contents safe from prying eyes.
"They..." I muttered, steeling myself for the task ahead. "I have much to uncover."
"I must use them..." I resolved, knowing the risks involved in pursuing the truth.
"Forgive me, Leticia... but I'll need to manipulate your feelings," I whispered to myself, exiting my room with a mask of calm.
I had to keep walking so as not to be suspected, in front of me I saw Leticia
"Leticia," I called, my voice more serious than usual.
She turned around, a little surprised to see me with such an expression.
"What's the matter, Arche?"
Without saying much, I quickly approached her, pressing her body against the wall with my left hand, while my right hand rested on the wall next to her head. Her eyes widened, shocked by my sudden action.
"Arche, what are you doing?" she asked, her voice trembling slightly
I looked into her eyes deeply.
"Leticia, there's something I need to tell you."
She swallowed hard, trying to stay calm despite the situation making her nervous. "What is it?"
I brought my face closer to hers, close enough to feel her breath.
"Where is Prince Cedric?"
Her initial shock turned to confusion and disappointment. "Why do you need to know that?"
I sighed, seeing her reluctance.
"I'll make it worth your while,"
I said with a teasing smile.
"How about a special reward just for you?"
She hesitated, clearly tempted. "I... I don't know where he is. I only know he's not in his room."
I raised an eyebrow, satisfied with her answer.
"Thank you, Leticia. You'll get your reward soon."
Her expression changed from disappointment to excitement.
"Really? What's the special reward?"
I smirked, letting my voice drop to a teasing whisper.
"Something you'll really enjoy"
I stealthily entered Prince Cedric's room, making sure no one was watching.
With a bobby pin I always carried, I quickly managed to unlock the poorly secured door.
I slipped inside silently, scanning the surroundings to find the yellow notebook that Cedric often used.
"Come on, where is it... the golden notebook... it must be here somewhere."
I looked around the desk and bookshelves, searching for any signs of the book I needed.
However, what I found wasn't just the notebook, but also several amusing and careless items.
"Hey, what's this? Cedric really leaves his stuff lying around like this."
I discovered some peculiar toys, and even a butterfly hat that seemed out of place for a prince's image.
Finally, among the scattered books, I found the yellow notebook I was looking for.
"It's very easy for a former thief like me"
I opened it carefully, ensuring not to disturb anything inside, and started jotting down the information I needed.
And it turns out that the contents of the book are photos of his sister Seraphina, and there is a poem containing praise for his sister
And there is a sentence that fills one sheet that reads "I love Seraphina"
"Cedric has a gold notebook containing words of affection for his little sister, he is really obsessed with his little sister!"
Those are the words I read in Aeon's diary
During break time, I slipped away from the palace, seeking a moment of solitude.
The air outside felt charged with an unshakeable tension, as if someone were lurking in the shadows, just out of sight.
"I feel like I'm always being followed by someone. Who is that person?" That haunting line from Aeon's diary echoed in my mind, sending shivers down my spine.
I wandered into a nearby house, the door creaking open as I stepped inside. The interior was dimly lit, dust motes dancing in the sparse light.
With a sense of unease, I climbed the stairs, each step creaking under my weight, leading me to a room at the end of the corridor.
As I opened the door, a chilling sight met my eyes. A lifeless body lay sprawled on the floor, the familiar features sending a jolt of recognition through me.
My breath caught in my throat—there, in front of me, was Aeon.
He hadn't been sick or away in his hometown; he had been here all along, silent and still.
The realization hit me like a hammer—everything I feared had come to pass.
"I just lost my virginity, I didn't expect Leticia to do that to me, even though I already consider her like family."
"My heart already belongs to Chronia, I will not turn away from her"
That is one of the sentences in Aeon's diary
Even though he said so
"Almost every day I make love to Leticia, it turns out it's fun to do that to her."
"I've given up waiting for Chronia, she won't come to me, I've found a new love, and that's Leticia."
He changes
"Bastard! Damn bitch! I accidentally got her pregnant and now she's holding me responsible?! I never wanted that child!"
"We've made up, and no one knows about this child except the two of us."
"And while pregnant, Leticia became more aggressive, she also aborted our baby, so that we can make love safely"
He became a jerk
"Leticia asked me to meet her tonight... we will celebrate one year of our relationship!"
And after that there were no more notes in the book, the story ended there
My speculation is that Leticia killed Aeon because she realized that Aeon had become a bastard and she didn't want him to be with another woman.
"You are mine, and no one can take you from me...huh?"
I talk to myself
Obsession..
"The normal one in this kingdom is probably only Seraphina"
I then returned to the palace
As midnight approached, I seized the opportunity I had been waiting for.
Silently slipping into the king's room, I concealed myself beneath a large table, driven by a single burning question.
"Aeon's diary spoke of the king's reprehensible actions after his wife's death," I recalled, the words echoing ominously in my mind.
Soon, footsteps approached and the door creaked open, revealing the king and Seraphina. Their conversation, laced with tension and darkness, confirmed my worst fears.
"Seraphina, my beautiful child..." The king's voice oozed with a disturbing tone.
"Dad... How long will this continue?" Seraphina's voice quivered with a mix of fear and defiance.
"Don't argue with me!" The sound of a slap reverberated through the room.
I stifled a gasp, realizing the gravity of the situation unfolding before me. This room was soundproof, shielding their secrets from the outside world.
"The king's descent into madness after his wife's death..." Another haunting revelation from Aeon's diary flashed through my thoughts.
I remained hidden, knowing that revealing myself prematurely could jeopardize everything.
Patience became my ally as I waited, acutely aware that any misstep could lead to discovery.
I could only hear Seraphina's moan, and the king's voice of joy
"He's really bad!"
I whispered to myself
You want to know something? I'm starting to regret coming here
The room that previously contained the sounds of Seraphina's moaning and the king's lewd laughter become fell silent
"Are they finished...?"
"Dad... if we keep doing this... I could get pregnant, you know..."
Seraphina said
"You can abort if you're pregnant."
The king replied casually
They put their clothes back on, and the king said
"You can't fight back, and if you fight back, I'll give you false accusations."
"You can't fight me, Seraphina, just obey my request and you will live in peace"
"We'll do it again tomorrow morning, 4am, you have to be there"
Said the king before leaving the room, leaving me and Seraphina alone there
"What peace...?!"
Seraphina shouted
Seraphina emerged from the room, her presence signaling a brief moment of relief amidst the palace's shadows.
"So many secrets in this palace," I muttered under my breath, contemplating the darkness that lurked beneath its opulent façade.
Leaving the room undetected, I exhaled deeply, thankful that my presence went unnoticed. "Huff... Thankfully, no one saw me."
Collecting myself, I steeled my resolve. "Alright... It's time to expose the rot within this kingdom."
Exiting the palace, I sought out Brian, the guard I needed to meet. "Brian!"
"Arche! Back to the bar tonight?" Brian asked cheerfully.
"No, remember you mentioned having an unused camera?" I reminded him.
"Oh, yeah... So, what's up?" Brian seemed puzzled.
"Can I have it?" I requested eagerly.
"But it's practically useless, you know?" Brian hesitated.
"I can fix it!" I assured him, already planning to upgrade it significantly.
"Alright, hang on..." Brian disappeared briefly to retrieve the camera, leaving me to stand guard in his absence.
Returning with a decrepit-looking camera, Brian handed it over skeptically. "Do you have the tools to fix this?"
"Absolutely," I replied, revealing a toolbox stocked with everything I needed.
"Okay, thanks, Brian!" I dashed off before he could inquire further, intent on my mission.
Back in my room, I meticulously tinkered with the camera, modifying it for stealth and efficiency.
Curiosity may arise: what was the camera for? Indeed, it was for gathering evidence. I silenced its operation, enabling it to capture multiple discreet photos in succession.
"Phew... Finally done." With my modifications complete, I retired to bed, setting an alarm for half past four in the morning to prepare for deployment.
At the sound of the alarm, I sprang into action, retrieving the modified camera. Stealthily, I made my way to the king's room, ensuring no one witnessed my movements.
Concealing the camera adeptly, I set it up to operate silently and autonomously, poised to capture the truths hidden.
When I exited the room, a voice called out from behind, startling me.
"Arche! What are you up to?" It was Leticia.
"L-Leticia!" I stammered, caught off guard by her sudden appearance.
Her presence, unexpectedly, provided a cover for me to avoid suspicion. "Leticia, good to see you!"
"Why does it feel like we're meeting for the first time?" Her brows furrowed in confusion.
"Leticia, do you have time around noon today?" I inquired, weaving my plan carefully.
"Our break times don't match up, you know."
"I'm planning to skip work. How about at 12 noon?" I subtly guided her into my trap. "Your break is from 11 to 12, right?"
"Alright..." She agreed, unaware of my actual break time being from 9 to 10 in the morning.
"Okay... but where should we meet?" I considered the risk of being seen by the king or Seraphina if we stayed here.
Taking Leticia's hand, I swiftly led her away from that place. "Huff..."
"Why do you seem so anxious, Arche?" Leticia queried.
"Hm? It's nothing," I reassured her. "What if we meet at your house outside the palace?"
Damn it! I hadn't meant to reveal that I knew about her house beyond the palace walls. She must be suspicious now.
I hoped she wouldn't catch on...
"Eh? Why do we need to chat at my house?!" Leticia exclaimed.
Yes! Her confusion might work in my favor!
Drawing closer to her, I leaned against the wall. "Because... I have a gift for you..."
"Wouldn't it be more comfortable at home...?" I gently touched her lips with my finger.
"In that case, okay..." She relented, perhaps thinking I had planned something earlier, like hiding Aeon's body.
Now, my mind was still racing on how to expose Cedric's disturbing obsession with his sister.
"Alright, see you later!" Leticia left, and I watched as Seraphina and the king entered the room where I had hidden the camera.
I could clearly see Seraphina's discomfort and anxiety etched on her face.
Leaning against the wall, I waited patiently for them to emerge from the room.
Twenty minutes passed and Seraphina came out of the room with messy clothes, I then walked to the front of the room and knocked on the door.
"Your Majesty, I humbly seek permission to enter."
From inside the room came the King's firm yet calm voice, "You may enter."
I approached the door and opened it slowly, stepping into the room with cautious steps. I bowed as a sign of respect.
"Thank you, Your Majesty," I said in a low and polite tone.
The King lifted his gaze from the stack of documents on his desk, his eyes sharp yet attentive.
"What brings you here, Arche? Is there something you need?"
I tried to remain composed as I replied, "Your Majesty, I have been tasked with retrieving a specific item from your study. It pertains to the recent council meeting."
The King furrowed his brow slightly, showing a hint of skepticism.
"A specific item? What exactly are you looking for?"
I paused briefly, thinking quickly to answer carefully.
"It is a document, Your Majesty, regarding the trade agreements we discussed earlier. I was instructed to ensure its safekeeping."
The King nodded slowly, still showing a trace of suspicion. "I see. Proceed then, but be quick about it."
"Thank you, Your Majesty," I replied, bowing once again.
I made my way to the bookshelf in the corner of the room, where I had hidden the camera earlier.
I tried not to betray my anxiety as I searched for the "document" I had mentioned. After a few moments, I found the hidden camera behind a stack of books, just as I remembered.
I swiftly retrieved the camera, pretending to find the document, then turned to face the King.
"I have found the document, Your Majesty. It is here."
The King simply nodded briefly.
"Very well. You may leave now."
I gave one final bow before exiting the room, relieved that the mission had succeeded without raising further suspicion.
I looked at the camera that I took and there were dozens of photos that had been taken
And yes, the photo taken was a photo of the king and Seraphina making love
"Very good.."
I stored the camera safely in my room to ensure no one would find it. Continuing with my duties, I patiently waited for my break time. Despite having been in the palace for a month, gaining influence over them, I knew I couldn't delay any longer. As a traveler, my time here was limited.
When the moment came to rest, I grabbed my camera and discreetly left my room through the window. Using my flying broomstick, I swiftly departed the palace, heading straight for the editorial office.
Upon arrival, I presented the photos to the journalists, explaining how I acquired them. Initially skeptical, they nearly turned me away. However, after persistent pleading, they reluctantly agreed to expose the corruption of the king.
"Alright... hand over the photos," one journalist demanded.
I passed several photos to them. "Can any of you make duplicates?"
All eyes turned to a woman poring over a newspaper. "She can do it. You want them duplicated, right?"
"Yes, exactly."
"You want how many copies? There are 50 photos... you want them duplicated twenty times!"
"WHAT?! That's a lot!"
Nevertheless, she proceeded with the task. I had a bag ready to store the thousand copies. Seeing her tired, I collected the bag of photos and left.
By now it was 10 in the morning. I went straight to the police station, disclosing Leticia's address and the contents of her house, alongside evidence from Aeon's diary. A squad of officers promptly headed to Leticia's residence for investigation, confident she was still at the palace.
With my mission complete, I returned discreetly to the palace via the rear entrance, using my broomstick. Changing into a robe and covering my face with a hood, I clutched the bag of photos tightly.
"Showtime," I muttered to myself as I ascended on my broomstick, flying past the bustling heart of the palace where many servants were gathered.
"Good morning, everyone! Ready for the latest news?" I called out, tossing the king's portrait into the air. As it fluttered down, the servants caught sight of it.
"The true face of the King!? This will stir things up!" I chuckled, relishing the stunned looks on their faces. Even the guards, initially hostile, were taken aback by the revelation.
"I intend to ensure every corner of this kingdom hears about it!" With a satisfied grin, I mounted my broomstick and swiftly spread the scandalous photos throughout the palace.
The commotion reached the King's ears, prompting him to emerge from his quarters. His expression darkened at the sight of his exposed portrait scattered about.
"Damn it! What in the hell do you want, you wretch?" he bellowed, clearly agitated.
"Me? Oh, just a bit of amusement!" I laughed, enjoying the irritation etched on the King's face.
As the crowd gathered, I hurled more photos into the air, creating a flurry of damning evidence raining down upon them.
Gasps filled the room. Seraphina, catching a glimpse of the scandalous image, blanched in shock and embarrassment.
"You fiend! This is all your doing!" The King lunged toward Seraphina, brandishing a knife.
But before he could reach her, Cedric intervened, grabbing his father's arm. "Father! What madness is this? You've shamed us all!"
"Enough, Cedric," the King hissed, advancing towards his son. The knife poised for deadly action.
Cedric, unarmed, positioned himself defensively.
His first evasions were swift, but as the King began to strike with paternal rage, Cedric found himself increasingly pressured, each blow more difficult to avoid.
Yet, with surprising speed and agility, Cedric found an opening.
In a bold move, he seized the knife from the King's grasp. In an instant, the tables turned. Now unarmed, the King had to yield to his steadfast son.
"Forgive me, father," Cedric said, breathless but unwavering.
When Cedric finally managed to wrest the knife from his father, I couldn't help but whistle in awe.
"Bravo!" I cheered enthusiastically from atop my flying broom.
"Prince Cedric, you're quite impressive!" I approached him gracefully on my flying broomstick.
"Want to impress your sister?"
"Who are you?" Cedric eyed me warily.
"Nobody important," I smirked.
The guards, feeling betrayed, closed in around the king, their weapons trained on him, Brian among them.
"Your Highness, you mustn't..." Brian's voice trailed off, the situation spiraling out of control.
Suddenly, Seraphina rushed forward, embracing Cedric from behind. "I'm scared, Brother..."
"Why didn't you tell me...?" Cedric's voice softened. It was a poignant moment, but amidst the tension, I realized Leticia was nowhere to be seen.
Without another word, I swiftly departed. "Until we meet again!"
"Wait! Meet me at midnight!" Seraphina called after me.
"Depends on my mood," I replied over my shoulder, already heading towards Leticia's residence.
Leticia's house appeared normal from the outside, though police were swarming within.
I took cover behind the chimney, observing quietly.
As Leticia entered her home, she was immediately confronted by a group of officers exiting.
"Do you own this residence?" one of them asked sternly.
"Police? Yes, it's mine," Leticia replied, visibly shaken.
"Can you explain why there's a man's body in your bedroom?"
"No... I was supposed to meet Arche here..." Leticia's thoughts raced. "Wait, what does this mean..."
"We're taking you in for questioning." The officers moved to restrain her, handcuffing her wrists.
"It's not my fault!"
"We have evidence." One of the officers produced Aeon's diary.
"A diary...?" Leticia laughed, her composure slipping. "Damn it! Who did this?!"
"Ah... Arche knew about this place... How?" Leticia muttered, piecing things together.
"You're behind all this, aren't you, Arche?!" Leticia accused, her voice rising in desperation.
"Yes, I orchestrated it all," I admitted calmly. "Are you looking for me, then?"
The police subdued Leticia with an electric shock, rendering her unconscious.
Emerging from my hiding spot, I addressed them boldly.
"People who've lost everything can be quite terrifying, can't they?"
"I never imagined there would actually be a body in this house. Thank you, Arche, you are our hero," the officer said, his words bringing a warm glow of satisfaction.
"Ah... no need to exaggerate... just doing my duty," I replied with a humble smile, basking in the praise.
"Alright... Goodbye!" The police led Leticia away to the station.
With the King and Leticia both destined for prison, my plan was complete.
Now, I only had one task left: meeting Seraphina at midnight.
Returning to my room, I changed back into my maid uniform and helped another maid clean up the photos I had scattered.
When midnight arrived, I donned my previous attire and flew to Seraphina's window on my broomstick. I knocked softly.
She opened the window, looking surprised. "Why not just come to the door?"
"With this suspicious look? I can't."
"Why aren't you in your uniform?" She pulled back my hood, revealing my face.
"You already knew?" I asked, slightly taken aback.
"Well, I saw you when I came out of that bastard father's room, and you were gone when the photos appeared."
Her keen observation impressed me, and I gave a faint smile.
"I owe you thanks and I will scold you."
"Heh? Why am I being scolded?" I said
"You shared that embarrassing photo! I was naked in that photo, you know!"
"I had the journalists censor your body in the newspapers," I reassured her, entering her room and settling on her bed.
"You're quite rude, aren't you?"
"I'm a former criminal," I admitted.
"You were a criminal?"
"Let me explain." I recounted the tale, from discovering Aeon's diary to trapping Leticia. "That's how it all happened."
"Hey, are you listening? You seem frozen," I said, noticing her dazed expression.
"My brother is obsessed with me...?" she murmured, her mind clearly elsewhere.
"That one, huh?!" I laughed softly, realizing that was what had caught her off guard.
"Actually, I also like my brother..."
"As a man?"
"Yes..."
I had initially thought Seraphina was the most normal person in this kingdom, but I was clearly mistaken. The only sane one here is Brian.
"WHY IS NO ONE NORMAL HERE?!" I yelled in frustration.
"Don't shout!" Seraphina quickly covered my mouth. "Calm yourself, Arche."
She slowly removed her hand from my mouth. "So what are you going to do now?"
"Honestly, I really want to stop your relationship with Cedric... but I don't think I can."
"Wow, thanks for the support," she said sarcastically.
"No! I don't support it at all. In fact, I vehemently oppose you having that kind of relationship with your own brother!" I sighed deeply, trying to control my anger. "But I can't do anything about it..."
"Don't worry. When my brother becomes king, he'll legalize romantic relationships between siblings!"
"I regret ever coming to this kingdom..."
"That won't happen!" Seraphina pulled out a heavy bag. I took it and found it was filled with gold coins.
My eyes lit up at the sight. "This is your payment as a servant."
"Are all the servants paid this much?"
"No, but because you helped expose the kingdom's corruption, I'm paying you extra—"
I immediately hugged her tightly, grateful for the fortune that would allow me to live comfortably. "Thank you, Seraphina! I never regret coming to this kingdom!"
"Hey! Don't hug me so suddenly!"
I released her and smiled. "Once again, thank you!" I opened her bedroom window.
"Oh my! Use the door!"
I stuck out my tongue playfully. "I don't want to!"
"Geez... you're like a brat."
After that day, I set off on a new adventure, taking my servant uniform with me. I had permission from both Cedric and Seraphina.
They had also confessed their feelings for each other... I really couldn't stop their relationship.
In a few days, Cedric would be inaugurated as the new king. It would be a challenging role, especially since some citizens had already lost trust in the kingdom, and discovering Cedric's love for his sister would only make things worse.
Oh yes, Seraphina also tried to beat me up as I was leaving because she saw a newspaper with a photo of her father and her in a compromising position.
I told her, "Just think of it as punishment for falling in love with your own brother."
Love is like an obsession; everyone wants it, everyone searches for it, but few find it.
Those who have experienced it will always cherish love, get lost in it, and never forget it.
