Waiting For Your Reincarnation

Chapter 23

Another Snarl invasion. The office door burst open and Ryu Won burst into the room.

 “Ms. Yeong-young, are you okay?”

The breath I’d been holding leaked out of my lungs the moment I saw his white horse body and broad shoulders.

I really am okay now.

When I realized that Jaeho had come, I felt uneasy. I never knew when his heart would twist and strangle me.

But when I realized that I saw my reflection in Ryu-won’s eyes, I felt a rush of relief.

At least Ryu-won was someone who wouldn’t hurt me.

My legs became weak again. I sank to the floor in a heap. Ryu-won took a few steps toward me, took off his uniform coat, and draped it over my body.

I could smell a slightly heavy woody scent mixed with the bitter smell of grass.

“If you do that, you’ll get your coat all wet, Mr. Ryu Won.” “This is not the time to worry about that.”

With a wave of his hand, the water that had enveloped me completely disappeared.

Ryu Won assessed the situation and got down on one knee in front of me.

He had a smile on his face. There was a subtle difference in his smile, just a hair’s breadth.

Ryu Won was forcing himself to smile.

From the way his eyes fluttered, I could tell that he was holding something back emotionally.

“Why did you leave the door locked, you could have gotten into trouble.” “I locked the door, I didn’t have the presence of mind.”

I hadn’t expected a growl, and who in their right mind would lock their office door?

I knitted my brows together. He rubbed my wrinkled forehead with his white, well-extended forefinger.

“So why was the door locked and who else was here besides me?” “Jung Jaeho is here.” “Jung Jaeho?”

He looked as if he had heard something he shouldn’t have. But Ryu Won seemed to understand why the office was flooded.

“What did he do?” “He didn’t really do anything…, he just grabbed the snarl and went out the window.”

I looked at the window to show Ryu Won where Jaeho had gone.

Ryu Won looked from the airy window to my bracelet.

He fiddled with the ring on the ring finger of his left hand.

“That’s why I can’t find it, no matter how hard I look for it.” “What?” “Jung Jaeho played a prank.”

Ryu Won concluded.

That Jung Jaeho sabotaged my rescue alarm to have the snarl all to himself.

He sighed tiredly and ran a hand through his hair. His eyes sparkled in the moonlight and there was anger in them.

It was then that I remembered Jaeho’s words.

“I’m only here to get materials for my experiment, I don’t care if you live or die.”

 “Trash.”

Not if Jaeho had intentionally locked her in that room. I wanted to take back the greeting I’d given Jaeho earlier.

While her anger slowly boiled over, Ryu Won checked every inch of her body.

Ryu Won grabbed my throat. When I flinched slightly, he didn’t touch my neck, but turned his head up and down to examine it.

“You’re hurt. Bunch of cockroaches. I’d pawn them all the first chance I got.”

His words left her speechless. Ryu Won’s hand slowly moved away from my neck.

He turned on the ring’s comms and connected them somewhere.

“Saeri.” —Ryu Won! Did you find Yeon-young? “Jung Jaeho, get that asshole right now.” —What? What about Jung Jaeho?

Ryu-won cut off communication with a one-way message. I wanted to ask him if it was okay to act like that, but I didn’t want to disturb the vicious atmosphere.

He slipped his hands under my legs and picked me up. I squirmed in my embarrassed position and screamed for him to get off.

Ryu Won tightened his arms around me, pressing my body closer to his hard chest.

My heart ached.

“If you could just stop shaking.” “What?” “Yeon-young, let go of me now.”

Only then did I realize that my body was shaking.

I could feel a warm breeze coming from Ryu Won’s hand and enveloping my entire body, as if he’d turned on a heater.

I don’t know if it was the sudden warm breeze, but my face felt like it was heating up.

He walked out of the office without a trace of heaviness or change in his expression.

Ryu Won’s hug was as relaxing as floating on the ocean. He was almost drowsy.

***

Cockroach Babies. Ryu Won gave the snarl a new definition of cockroach.

We hadn’t spoken more than a few words, but I could feel it.

That he disliked, even loathed, snarling. A cold expression, rarely seen on his face, flashed through my mind.

What the hell is a snarl? If I ever run into a Snarl again, I’ll be killed…

I wrapped my hand around my injured neck, wondering how I would adapt from now on.

A feeling of helplessness enveloped my entire body.

Ryu Won was on his way to the emergency room when he was paged and went straight to the chairman’s office.

 “Yuck.”

Ryu Won’s grim mood caused Saeri to immediately send out a search party for Jaeho. Jaeho didn’t get very far, so he was quickly caught.

Saeri threw him into an earthen cell and locked him up. He tried to make a stream of water and shoot it at the entrance, but to no avail.

“We got the snarling bucket back, Ryu Won can do what he wants with it. I’m done.”

Saeri stepped out to check the trough.

At that moment, Jaeho’s back hit the cage hard.

Whether a groan escaped his mouth or not, Ryu Won continued to apply pressure with the wind.

Jaeho’s face gradually distorted and his complexion turned pale.

I was tired of lifting a finger, so I didn’t intervene. Saeri came over to me and sat down.

“What happened?” “I don’t know. Snarl broke in, Jung Jaeho came, and it just happened.” “You mean the snarl was in human form?” “Yes.”

Saeri had already told Jaeho some of the information about the Snarl. I nodded my head slightly.

Saeri’s expression didn’t brighten when she heard the confirmation from me.

“It’s the appearance of the transformed Snarl.” “What?” “Ryu Won, stop.”

Saeri glared at Ryu Won and ordered him to stop using his ability. But Ryu Won shoved his hands into his pockets and ignored her words with a bored look on his face.

Dare.

Ryu Won was the kind of person for whom the word

“dare”

was most appropriate. Saeri ran a hand through her hair and rose from her seat. I followed her.

Jaeho was still laughing hysterically, as if he hadn’t just come to his senses.

He seemed to be enjoying himself just by pissing off a man named Ryu Won.

The dirt slowly rose up under Ryu Won’s feet. It was an action Saeri had taken in order to restrain him.

But the dirt didn’t even reach Ryu Won’s knees and scattered into the air.

“I’ll just blow it up like this.” “Hey.”

Saeri’s voice sounded.

Ryu Won took a breath and stared at the ceiling. He looked pensive for a moment, then tilted his head to stare at me.

“Do you want me to kill him?” “What?” “Just say the word and I’ll kill him.”

Saeri looked nervously between me and Ryu Won.

I looked at Jaeho, knowing he was a piece of trash, but not wanting to see him destroyed as usual.

“Let him go.” “Alas, I knew it.”

Jaeho coughed from inside the cage. Ryu Won had let him go. Saeri squeezed his shoulder and rubbed his temple.

“Take care of yourself. You’re so annoying, always looking out for others.” “What?”

Saeri removed the bars that held Jaeho and bound his legs in the dirt. Jaeho sank to the ground, unwilling to run away for the time being.

Ryu Won came over and sat down next to me. The chairman’s office was a mess, as if a snake had broken in.

“Jung Jaeho, the collection bucket is confiscated and you’re suspended for now. “Why are the seeds in you so boring?” “What?” “He’s no different from the rest of us. I expected much more from him.”

Jaeho stared at me and gave his former answer. His emerald green eyes, filled with curiosity, were relentlessly looking at me.

Like the mouth of a snake devouring its prey, his gaze gave me the feeling that he was slowly devouring me.

“Yeah, I’d rather have a piece of your soul.” “Don’t do anything stupid and hold on.”

Saeri grabbed Jaeho’s neck with the dirt and lifted him up. Jaeho struggled like a monkey hanging from a tree.

The moment Saeri lifted him and held him against the conference room door, he screamed.

He pointed to his right wrist.

“This bracelet, is it really just for decoration, you idiot?”

Saeri stopped walking and looked at Jaeho with a creepy expression. Jaeho’s face quickly stiffened when he heard her words.

He wondered why everyone reacted like that when he was the one who had been insulted.

Saeri stormed out of the room.

Left alone with me, Ryu-won hesitated before speaking.

“Are you sure that nothing happened between you and Jung Jaeho?” “That’s right.” “I can’t believe that idiot said that.” “Did you call him stupid?” “No, I recited the functions of the bracelet.” “That’s what you were reciting?” “You’re a very kind soul.”

After hearing Ryu Won’s explanation, I looked at the bracelet on my right wrist with a puzzled expression.

The light pink gemstone embedded in the bracelet was shining unusually brightly today, as if she hadn’t noticed.
