Waiting For Your Reincarnation

Chapter 16

Is this what it feels like to be dust floating in the air?

Or is this what it feels like to be a floating object in water?

I ran my hand over the back of my head. The sudden headache seemed to shut down my mind for a moment.

I blinked a few times and my blurred vision became clearer. The interior of Veronica’s tavern was gone, replaced by an unfamiliar street.

I wondered if I’d gotten on the wrong teleport, but the speed was too comfortable for that. I didn’t dare guess what had happened.

 “Ming!”

I heard a lively puppy cry. I turned my head to follow the sound and saw a small mansion. The gates of the mansion opened and a knight came out, followed by a short-haired brown puppy.

The puppy, Mo-yang, was probably the source of the cries.

The puppy barked and rolled over on its belly in front of the knight, as if demanding to be seen. The knight was fully armed, as if he was about to leave.

The knight stopped, shrugged, and took off his armor and helmet one by one. The puppy clung to the knight’s left breastbone and wouldn’t let go.

“Marie, it’s almost time to leave and I really have to go.”

My eyes widened at the familiar voice, and I wondered if I’d misheard, but then I caught a glimpse of short blond hair in the distance.

It was Veronica, her helmet on the ground and her dog in her arms. I was relieved to see a familiar face, even though I thought I’d been abandoned on a remote island.

 “Ms. Veronica.”

I called her Veronica. But Veronica didn’t answer, just looked at the dog with affection in her eyes.

She didn’t even acknowledge my presence, even though we were close enough to recognize each other at a glance.

The puppy Veronica called

“Marie”

had her tail tucked under her. Maybe she knew Veronica had to go.

“Marie…wait a week and I’ll bring you a whole bunch of your favorite meat, and you’ll listen to Mrs. Anne next door and be quiet. Oh, and of course, if any of the other dogs bully you by looking down on you for being small, be sure to give them a good smack on the tail.”

Marie’s tail wagged gently as if she understood Veronica’s words, and Veronica was not amused.

She lowered Marie to the floor. Veronica put her helmet back on and rode off.

Marie sat there until she was out of sight of Veronica’s back.

Looking at Veronica’s pensive backside, I didn’t know if she should follow her or not.

That’s when the two barrels I felt when I first saw the scene came back to me.

The space where I was standing was crushed and the scene changed like a deck of cards being shuffled. No matter how hard I focus, my vision keeps blurring.

As I slowly lost consciousness, I heard an urgent voice.

 “Yeon… Ms. Young… Yeon-Young!”

I recognized the voice as if it were my own. Somehow, I knew that if I followed the voice, I could get out of this hole, wherever it was.

I opened my eyes in surprise as I felt someone pulling on my body. The first thing I saw was Ryu Won’s clean-shaven face.

I could even see his eyelashes fluttering from how close they were. I reached out and wiped under Ryu Won’s right eye.

His movements stopped for a moment. The hand gripping my shoulder grew weaker.

I reached down to check, but there was nothing there. Upon closer inspection, I realized that it wasn’t a tear, but a tiny spot between his eyelashes.

Why did the thought of him crying make my heart sink for a moment?

Thinking it was strange, I stood up. I could see the floor of the bar.

“Yeon-young, are you okay?” “What happened to me?”

I asked and Veronica explained the situation with a shaky voice.

“You grabbed the Sly and suddenly fell. Do you know how scared I was?”

I hadn’t traveled to another dimension, but I had dreamed it when I grabbed the Sly and collapsed. I marveled at my poor physical condition.

I couldn’t believe that a spirit could faint.

“Why are you here alone? What happened at the clock tower?”

Ryu Won’s voice was not the ticklish, raspy voice of the grass in the forest. It was a voice I’d never heard from him before.

If his behavior up to this point was any indication, I should be mocking him right now.

But the corners of his mouth were set stiffly, and no joke escaped him.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t realize I’d be back so soon with just a map…” “I’m not making excuses.” “I told you to keep your wits about you, didn’t I?”

It wasn’t the same conversation we’d had in front of the clock tower, but I didn’t bother correcting him. I could feel his efforts to thaw the frozen atmosphere in the room. Ryu Won’s expression gradually relaxed.

Ryu Won, distracted by the sudden flurry of events, touched the back of my head, which was tingling. It felt as if I had fallen backwards.

My face is heating up like a ripe tomato.

“Are you in much pain? Your face looks a bit red. Let’s go back to the center and check out the emergency room first.” “I don’t think it’s that bad.” “The soul isn’t invincible, it’s vulnerable to the slightest damage.” “I’m really fine…” “Yeon-young, let’s go. Come on.”

When I nodded in agreement, Ryu Won grabbed my waist with both hands and lifted me up with a quick motion. The hot hands on my waist made me feel self-conscious.

Ryu Won’s back revealed Veronica’s flushed face, which had been hidden until now. She muttered the word

“crazy”

under her breath.

Ryu Won’s gaze was fixed on me, seemingly oblivious to Veronica.

“Mr. Ryu Won, I’m really going to go, but one question, Veronica, what happened to that sly earlier?” “You fainted and woke up, remember Sly?”

Veronica pointed at her feet with her index finger. I wondered if I had missed it, but there it was, clinging to the side of her left breastbone.

Sly gave off a faint glow of amusement.

“I’ve never seen Sly so sociable.”

Ryu Won gently set me down on the ground and walked over to Sly. Sly jumped up and down, avoiding his touch.

Veronica giggled that Sly was so good at detecting spiritual energy. Ryu Won gave up trying to grab Sly with his bare hands and stepped back.

This time, Veronica reached out her hand to Sly. Sly stood still next to Veronica’s left breastbone, waiting for her touch.

Veronica gently stroked Sly. A gentle smile played at the corners of her mouth.

“Yeon-young” “What?” “I’ve never touched Sly before in my life. It’s wet, warm and soft.”

Veronica’s words resonated with me because I had already touched Sly. Sly was like a stress doll, and just touching him made the negative feelings disappear.

“I feel like nothing but good things happen when I’m with you. I want you to stay here.” “But why not Mr. Ryu Won and why not Veronica?”

According to the explanation I heard in the chairman’s office, Sly is not a very friendly spirit.

Judging from Veronica’s reaction, it was the first time she touched Sly.

So the only premise that made sense was that this Sly was unusually friendly to Veronica.

Does this Sly already know who Veronica is?

Yeon-young summarized the situation by reciting what she could see.

Suddenly, my head cleared up like a light bulb. I remembered a dream I had when I collapsed.

A very old foreign setting.

Veronica in armor.

And a small brown puppy attached to her left radial bone.

Maybe it wasn’t a dream, I thought, maybe it was someone’s memory. Just in case, I called out to Sly.

“Marie?” “How did you know that name?”

Sly jumped up and down with excitement when he heard the name Marie. Seeing Sly’s excited reaction, Veronica covered her mouth with both hands.

What I saw was a memory of Veronica’s dog, Marie.
