Villain's Valor: A Noble Fantasy Resurrection

Chapter 320 Traitor?

"Let's talk, shall we?" The Emperor of the Empire, Gabriel, was the first to speak.

Grand words flowed from his mouth, so grand that it felt like the house might be destroyed completely. Yet, at the same time, his words sounded very gentle.

Nodding silently, I replied, "Alright."

The situation was a bit uncomfortable, to say the least. Dorothy continued drinking—first and foremost. But none of these beings even exchanged greetings; they completely ignored each other. I was feeling quite uneasy. Here I was, in my own living room with the most powerful beings in the empire... and I, merely a peak gold-ranked individual.

Gabriel's gray eyes turned curiously to the young Dorothy. Feeling his gaze, she smiled and nodded her head.

As I thought, they wanted answers from Dorothy's mouth, but if they wanted to talk to me for some reason... I couldn't help but think that it was all Dorothy's fault. But there was nothing to be done about it. The entire empire was under the Emperor's scrutiny. No one could escape, especially not a sacred being with an aura as vast as the sky.

I suppose he wants answers about where she got that thing she gave to Professor Athena. Gabriel's gray eyes returned to mine.

Taking a sip from his wine glass...

"You've changed quite a lot. I'm quite impressed. The image I had of you has been completely shattered; you seem like a stranger now. But that's fine. I actually prefer your current attitude much more. Besides, you're the best student of the entire first year..."

"It's hard for me to say, we haven't spoken in a long time. I remember a few years ago when you were just a child. After that, you changed completely, even offending my daughter. But now you're different. Quite curious."

"But what's done is done and can't be changed. I was thinking of marrying you off to my daughter again, but I don't think she'd agree. It's better to let her do as she wishes. But that aside, that's not the point of this conversation; now is not the time."

"My friend Athena told me something very interesting. First, that you were kidnapped by Lady Dorothy and imprisoned for almost two months. But curiously, the attitude Lady Dorothy had towards you was very... how should I put it... let's say, very bad. Yet now you seem quite close. I just have one question about this. What did you do? We didn't even know there were two sacred beings in the Magic Forest..."

Seraphine's eyes glowed...

"Oh!! You saw her!! She's my friend!!" Dorothy said happily, and a small amount of mana flowed from her, forming a wolf pup on the floor. It had pure white fur that even shimmered... the white eyes looked around, and its tail moved a bit.

"Nice to meet you, my name is Glaces," a familiar voice could be heard from the small white wolf pup.

Feeling a strong urge to slap my face, I put on a polite smile.

"Well, let's just say we had good compatibility... yes! That was it!!" I said as confidently as possible.

"I hate you, hehehe," Dorothy's playful voice came right after I spoke.

Continuing with my confident smile, I replied, "Very good friends...."

The Emperor looked at me for a few moments before nodding slowly.

"Well... but we have a few questions... which, as you know, are very important. I understand you know about them too, right?"

Seraphine's delicate voice filled the room, and her golden eyes shone like two suns.

A skill... In fact, she was verifying whether I was lying or not. Quite annoying. "Alright," I said. As long as the questions aren't too personal... it should be fine.

"Do you have any idea what's going on in the City of Adventurers?" asked the beautiful woman.

"Yes, I understand it's in evacuation."

"It's supposed to be a secret," Gabriel said with a smile.

"Well... Dorothy told me," I replied. This was true. During the journey, she told me about the artifact she gave to the professor and much earlier about the method for evacuating the city when I was in prison.

"Do you know the reason?" the saint asked again.

Here we go...

"Yes, Dorothy told me. According to her, something big is coming." This was also true...

"I see... You do seem quite close, she even told you everything," Seraphine looked at Gabriel and nodded.

"As you know, Anthony, we're in big trouble. There are many signs that we're going to be attacked by one of the sins, specifically the Sin of Sloth. Many hidden artifacts, hidden rats, and crazies gathered in one place. We took care of them, but... there are many more. We don't know their location. They have the blessing of the Sin of Sloth, which makes them hard to find... But it's quite strange. We found some of them hidden in the academy, and even beyond that, we have a group of students who are very important. It's secret information, of course, but they knew about it. They had their names, families, everything, which led us to believe there are traitors among us." Gabriel's eyes grew cold.

I swallowed silently. Nobody likes traitors, especially when the world they live in is on the brink of destruction.

"But thanks to Lady Dorothy's consideration, we managed to get one of the chosen ones to successfully address our doubts. Quite remarkable. Thanks to this, we can confirm that the other chosen ones are complete. A great help. Many thanks, Lady Dorothy."

"You're welcome!! It was quite fun!!" Dorothy exclaimed with a smile.

On the other hand, I was sweating profusely.

"But... all our efforts were discovered. Fortunately, the procedures are in my mind. We did some research... It might be a coincidence or not. But..." Gabriel's gray eyes fixed on me, and I also felt the gaze of Seraphine's golden eyes and Draven's sharp eyes.

"Everyone, except one who is in the alchemy faculty, had contact with you... Even, by coincidence, you helped Estefany and Persephone... I even know you also helped Matías... I asked young Estefany directly... Do you know what she told me?"

"She asked you why you were helping her, and you told her because you're special, things that can happen, or too many coincidences..."

"But, we hope we're wrong. A drastic change, indeed, but we believe there was a traitor..."

"I'm screwed," I thought internally.
