Both of us stayed silent... After another round of insults and curses, it seemed we finally managed to calm down...
I sighed, releasing a deep breath to steady my breathing. The argument had only escalated to finger-pointing and harsh words... It didn't lead to physical aggression. We seemed like little kids fighting over a damn candy.
Breathing deeply, I calmed my thoughts...
Looking at the multicolored young woman, I had many questions, but the first was the most basic.
"What's your real name?" I asked. I didn't know her name, so I wanted her to tell me.
"Seriously?" She looked at me as if I were stupid, maybe surprised by the question I asked...
Clenching my fists and holding back the urge to insult her...
"My name is Dorothy," she finally answered.
Nodding my head, I had a big doubt about those resets...
"What do you mean by the previous two resets?"
Dorothy sat cross-legged on the grass and raised her head: "Do you have any idea what's going on in Zone 8?" She answered with a question...
"No," I didn't know much about Zone 8.
"In Zone 8, as you all know, there's a seal. Inside that great seal lies the essence of life of the Seven Deadly Sins. That's what the seal is. To break the seal that was placed thousands of years ago, you have to kill the Seven. Only then can you break the bubble... But, the moment you touch that seal without having killed all the Sins, the bubble resets, and with it, everything inside it. That's the world we live in—a big bubble, transparent to our eyes. During the second reset, in the Empire's desperation, a human managed to reach the seal hoping to escape, but to their misfortune, they caused the second reset."
"The first reset was triggered when the Empire and the last human met their end. The seal is actually the opportunities we have to kill the Seven Sins that were trapped with us. Two resets have already passed; we have one left, the final one. If we can't kill the Seven in this reset, the bubble will finally disappear, and they'll be free, which is exactly what they want—to get out of this damn bubble."
"Once the bubble resets, everyone inside will forget their memories of the previous resets."
Dorothy explained seriously...
My mind was trying to process everything she said. I felt like I was going crazy. So the seal is nothing more than a bubble that resets time: "But... if you say everyone forgets their memories, how do you remember?"
"You underestimate me, you damn insect!!" Dorothy jumped up and put her hands on her hips... pointing to herself: "I'm a being one rank above sacred, but this bubble suppresses my power!" She pouted, clearly annoyed.
"One rank above!!!" My eyes nearly popped out of my sockets.
"What's the name of that rank?" I was very curious about it...
Dorothy coughed a little: "The rank above sacred is called Archangel."
Archangel... That sounds pretty angelic... Thinking about it for a moment... I pushed it to the back of my mind; it wasn't very important right now, just something I was curious about...
"But how did someone of such a high rank in the entire Empire have the terrible misfortune of being cursed?" I asked again, finding it unimaginable that a being beyond my comprehension suffered such a fate in the previous two resets.
"The seal failed—well, no, it was manipulated by the Seven... those bastards!!" Dorothy clenched her fist: "The seal was actually placed by my mother thousands of years ago... She's from the outside. Somehow, she found this forgotten piece of land where a primitive civilization existed... Her intention was to hide me in this place. But while she was creating the seal, something went wrong; there was an intrusion. At that time, the world was at war, and my mother was being pursued. Amid the chaos, the seal was created, but a corrupt energy managed to enter... I suppose that energy divided into seven beings. And because the seal was made by my mother, they somehow managed to curse me. Ha, but now they're screwed!! Their damn plan failed!! I'll kill them all!!!"
"Wait... I don't understand, if you say the seal was placed thousands of years ago, how have there only been two resets?" I asked, confused...
"Because of Zone 8. That zone is closer to the outside, and it's the most special of all. The bubble covers this entire piece of land, but the pressure from the outside world is more concentrated in Zone 8 than in the other zones. This makes the gravity in Zone 8 much stronger, and time passes faster there than in other zones... In reality, they've been asleep for over a thousand years, but only now are they beginning to open their eyes. The problem with me was that when that energy entered, it touched the barrier, cursing a part of the seal along with me."
"Crazy sons of bitches! But now we have an opportunity. We have six sacred beings alive right now... We just need one more... and the seven plagues, well, that's another story. The most important thing is to kill the Seven and get out of the bubble, or..."
"The problem with that is we expose ourselves to the outside world, where real beings can kill us just by looking at us. We're trapped, we have the chance to break the bubble... but for what? Once the Seven Deadly Sins are dead, this bubble will remain peaceful forever... But if we decide to break the bubble, an even bigger war awaits us... Haha, the joy of ignorance."
It's something similar to what the black dragon said... Frowning... now that she mentions it, it's true. If the Seven die, this bubble will be peaceful forever... That's probably what most of the population wants... Who in their right mind would want to enter a dark and dangerous jungle...
"A great contradiction, breaking the bubble or staying inside it..." Dorothy smiled...
"Isn't there a way to leave without breaking the bubble? That could be the best answer to the contradiction..."
"I don't know, there might be, or there might not be, I simply don't know." She shrugged.
