She bowed, lifting her dress a little.

He was implying that she was here to assassinate him while he was alone. Nanxi also understood what he was implying with his question as she quickly denied the allegation:

"Hmm, your words are reasonable. Xue clan or the third sister won't be so foolish." Ashen agreed with her reasoning before asking: "Then tell me, why were you following me in secret?"

Hearing his question, she was about to answer before realizing something:

I can't tell the truth.

I can't explain that I was after him to check something by touching him. The truth won't save me here.

Who would even believe me if I told them that there is a screen that shows me messages?

Seeing her quiet, Ashen prompted her to hurry: "Answer me. Why are you taking so long? Didn't you say your intentions were pure without a hint of malice? You just have to tell me the truth."

Her mind was in chaos as her heart raced in anxiety and fear.

He asked just to confirm: "You were following me because you fell in love with me??"

Xue Nanxi nodded her head instantly, explaining herself: "I wanted to express my feelings for you, your highness. I couldn't find a chance to have a conversation with Your Highness alone and when I saw you leaving your gallery. I thought that was the perfect chance to talk with Your Highness in private."

What am I even saying?

But why does this make so much sense?

Ashen nodded in understanding, finding her reasoning apt to explain why she was following him in secret.

So this is the reason why she was following me?

This was why she didn't reveal herself while hiding behind the rock, she must've been shy and embarrassed.

I noticed her constantly looking at my gallery and when she even followed me here, I thought she was after my life, but who would've thought... this was the reason.

But I thought the World's Will didn't let anyone fall for me just because of my looks. Only after someone's feelings were strong enough could they resist the world's will.

"Ahem... So lady Nanxi, what made you fall in love with me? Is it my looks? My eyes? My strength? or my talent?" Ashen asked shamelessly, without batting an eye.

She extended her hand towards him as she continued: "If you can only take a walk with me while we hold hands, that would be enough. I'd be able to satiate myself with just the memories of this walk."

Her icy blue eyes innocently looked at him, insisting him to grant her request.

This is perfect. Now we will hold hands and I'll get to know if he is the destined person or not.

If he is not, I won't have to carry on with this lie after this. In her mind, this was the perfect way to end this and get her task completed.

After this event, she had already decided to go and search the whole empire with her guards. Atleast, five years should be enough to find one of the four individuals who can change her destiny.

However, she hadn't expected Ashen's response would be different than what she'd expected.
