Versatile Mage: Starting with the White Tiger Pendant

Chapter 21: Chapter 21: The Wonderful Use of Magic

Unknowingly, a week had passed.

The two siblings went out early and returned late, hunting monsters in the wilderness. However, after the successful first day, they only encountered another group of wandering monsters after several days.

In seven days, they earned just over 200,000. In two months during the summer vacation, that wouldn't even reach a million. After two more years of hunting, they wouldn't even be able to afford the rental fees for the Nebula Magic Tools.

Lu Jun felt that this could not continue. They needed to take more aggressive risks.

In the living room, Lu Mei frowned and said, "You want to go deeper into the South Ridge Wilderness?"

"That's right," he nodded and said. "This method of accumulating funds is too slow. We need to take the initiative. Besides, you saw it, I had no problem dealing with seven or eight magic wolves on my own, and you didn't even need to use your intermediate magic."

"If we work together, wiping out a nest of magic wolves is no problem. Fifty standard servant-level wolves, plus some old, weak, or sick ones."

"This is a crazy idea." Lu Mei fell into thought. Her second attribute, [Earth], was stuck at the beginner level 3, and she urgently needed to rent the Nebula Magic Tool for a long time to break through the barrier.

After these days of killing, she felt confident and decisively said, "Alright, let's go deeper into the wilderness, but to hunt a magic wolf nest, we need to stay in the wilderness for a few days and make proper preparations."

The siblings acted decisively. Early in the morning, just as dawn broke, they packed up their camping gear and left the Snow Peak Mountain Outpost.

For the past seven days, Lu Jun had become more familiar with Zhan Kong. He had obtained a more detailed demon distribution map from the military, which was far superior to the ones available on the market or from various monster-hunting teams.

This was made possible by combining the information from several hunting teams and military reconnaissance.

This greatly saved Lu Jun's time. Along with the advice he received from veterans and experienced hunters over the past few days, they were now barely qualified as hunters, at least not getting lost, knowing where to find water sources, identifying tracks and droppings to avoid danger, and tracking magic wolves.

At this moment, two figures were weaving through the dense forest. One was tall and graceful, while the other was slightly shorter and slimmer.

Following the military map's instructions, Lu Mei and Lu Jun arrived at a low valley. The two quickly discovered traces of magic wolves' droppings and some animal skeletons.

"I'm a wind element mage, I'll go scout the area," Lu Mei said decisively.

Lu Jun did not argue or act arrogantly. He watched his sister's elegant figure disappear into the distance and silently crouched in the downwind forest in camouflage.

Before long, Lu Mei returned, stepping lightly on the wind trail. Her expression was serious as she said, "It's definitely a magic wolf nest. From a distance, I saw that the lead wolf isn't a warrior, but it has the strength of a mid-level servant, so it's not easy to deal with."

The so-called "mid-level" referred to a monster that was in a transitional phase from a servant to a warrior. Such monsters were significantly stronger than others of the same level and were in a crucial transformation period.

Without injury and with abundant nutrition, this transformation could take anywhere from a few months to one or two years.

A mid-level servant was not something a beginner mage could handle. Even if ten of them came, they'd be easily killed. Only a mid-level mage could inflict heavy damage with a single spell.

"Can I hold off fifty servant-level wolves by myself?" Lu Jun frowned and asked. "Have you checked the surroundings? There shouldn't be any other monsters, right?"

His sister shook her head, "None. A monster nest's territory generally won't have other dangerous creatures nearby."

The worst thing in monster hunting was when another group of monsters interrupted your plan midway.

Lu Jun scanned the surrounding terrain, his sharp eyes spotting a small hill at the edge of the valley. He saw that the hilltop was wide enough to accommodate three one-eyed magic wolves attacking at once.

If he fell into the middle of fifty wolves, he probably wouldn't last long. But if it was just three wolves at a time, he could handle it, as long as his magic didn't run out.

Hearing what her brother said, Lu Mei's eyes lit up. "Not bad, I've checked that place. The slope is slippery, and there's a lake behind it. If we really can't win, we can use water magic to jump into the lake and easily escape."

The two circled around, following the rugged slope to the top of the hill. Lu Jun suggested, "We can place some boulders here. If we run out of magic in the fight, we can push the boulders down to physically knock back the magic wolves."

Lu Mei confidently replied, "That's easy. Watch me, an earth mage, work my magic."

Without needing her level 3 earth magic, she used the first-level spell [Earth Wave: Shift] to achieve the effect.

Boom, boom, boom!

She skillfully controlled the star path, and an apricot-yellow trace appeared. The ground trembled, and waves rolled like a tide, lifting huge boulders from the foot of the mountain and moving them up.

The slope acted like an automatic elevator, moving the boulders without any effort.

Soon, the top of the hill was filled with seven or eight boulders, each the size of a person.

Lu Jun surveyed the area again, walked to the edge of the hill, and looked down. A clear lake appeared below. Everything was set!

He had an epiphany. For the first time, he truly understood the magic's wonders. Even a beginner spell, when used well, could have tremendous destructive power and endless uses.

After resting for a while to recover their strength, Lu Mei stood up, smiled, and said to her brother, "Stay here and don't move. I'll go lure the magic wolves over."

Lu Jun's mouth twitched. He immediately retorted, "Okay, Mom!"

Lu Mei, who was about to leave, stumbled for a moment, turned around and gave him a playful glare, her eyes full of charm.

Before the battle, they shared a light joke, which made both of them feel much more relaxed.

Lu Jun summoned his gold-element heavy sword in advance, adding level 2 water magic [Water Defense: Guard].

Not long after his sister left, he saw a violent sandstorm rising in the valley below from the top of the hill. It was likely Lu Mei's mid-level wind magic [Wind Disc] that had disturbed the nest.

Whirr, whirr, whirr!

Next, Lu Jun felt the ground lightly tremble. From a distance, smoke was billowing. He estimated that fifty monsters were chasing after his sister.

Soon, Lu Mei's figure flashed by, and she returned, breathless, saying, "They're coming, get ready."

"Okay, you stay behind and cast your spells," Lu Jun said, his expression serious. Holding his heavy sword, he stood at the entrance of the hilltop, his sword now three times its normal size, resembling a large door. He stood there like an immovable mountain, exuding an aura of someone who could block thousands of foes.

Lu Mei looked over at her brother's imposing figure and was momentarily stunned. An inexplicable sense of security filled her heart. She quickly covered her face, feeling embarrassed by her own thoughts.

Boom, boom, boom!

At this moment, Lu Jun didn't have time to think about his sister. He gazed down at the massive beast herd. It wasn't an exaggeration—if fifty delivery trucks lined up in the middle of a vast desert charging forward, the shock would be the same.

Any creature that stood in their way would inevitably tremble in fear and instinctively try to avoid them.

But Lu Jun had been tempered by such experiences. The more brutal the scene, the more intense the killing intent in his heart. The heavy sword in his hand seemed to sense its master's feelings, letting out a faint hum.

Fortunately, they were on a mountain peak. When the dust cloud reached the base of the hill, its speed slowed down, and the effort needed to climb up completely stopped the wolves' charge.
