Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Facing Hundreds Alone
Seeing the department heads rallying the students, Luo Song finally felt relieved.
If everyone was getting involved, there was nothing for him to fear anymore.
And it wasn't because Luo Song was scared!
"Let's see how long you can keep up your arrogance once all the freshmen come after you!" Luo Song taunted confidently.
"Boom!"
Suddenly, Flame Howl Wolf stomped the ground, its intense gaze locked onto Luo Song.
In that instant, Luo Song felt an overwhelming pressure, as if a mountain was pressing down on him. His body trembled with fear.
Flame Howl Wolf, loyal to its master Mo Fan, was just waiting for the command to pounce. A mere fat guy like Luo Song dared to shout? If it weren't for Mo Fan holding it back, Flame Howl Wolf would have already taught him a harsh lesson.
"You have nothing to worry about. We'll have plenty of chances to deal with him in the future." Mo Fan said with a casual smirk.
He didn't take provocations lightly, especially blatant ones like this. In Bo City, he had made sure people like Zhao Kunsan learned not to bark around him. Since then, they dared not cross him, at least not to his face.
So why let such troublemakers off the hook? The best way to deal with people like this was through a bit of magical practice.
Now Luo Song, in the same situation, was regretting his earlier bravado. Mo Fan wasn't always surrounded, meaning there were times when he could be the sole target. And in those moments, Luo Song realized: he was just a sitting duck.
But leaving now would mean losing face forever, wouldn't it?
While Luo Song stood there, trembling, the department heads were already handpicking their best students. Although they didn't know every freshman well, they certainly knew the ones from prestigious families.
Quickly, over thirty students representing the Four Major Families of Magic City were gathered. Among them was Mu Nu Jiao, though Zhao Manyan wasn't. As a middle-tier mage himself and Mo Fan's roommate, Zhao Manyan saw no point in joining. After all, he couldn't care less about losing a bit of academy resources—money was no value to him. And honestly, he liked Mo Fan's boldness.
Moreover, some of these students were mid-level mages, and Zhao Manyan didn't see the need to jump into the fray. Besides, Mo Fan's brash personality aligned with his own. And, let's be honest, Zhao Manyan wasn't worried about being targeted by Mo Fan later. After all, his family had plenty of money, which meant he had plenty of magical tools.
"Listen up, you're all the best of the freshman class, representing the major families of Magic City. Defend your department's resources!" one of the department heads urged them.
"Don't worry, we'll deal with that cocky guy." Zhuang Lifeng, a student, replied confidently.
"Oh?" Everyone looked at Zhuang Lifeng.
"We don't have to defeat his summoned beast. Summoning mages are weak themselves."
Zhuang Lifeng's words left the group momentarily speechless. Were they really planning to gang up on Mo Fan instead of his summoned creature?
It wouldn't be a very honorable victory.
"His summoned beast may be at the warrior level, but he himself is likely just a mid-level mage." Zhuang Lifeng continued, sensing the hesitation among his peers.
They figured it made sense. Mo Fan's summoning beast was strong, but there was no way his second magic element could be even stronger.
Finally, one of the school directors said, "Enough talking—get out there and fight!"
Soon, the arena was packed with 150 students, with 100 of them forming ranks of 20. Although hastily gathered, these students had all been through high school training and weren't completely useless.
Once they were all in place, Mo Fan calmly instructed his Flame Howl Wolf: "I'll handle the mid-level mages. You take care of the elementary ones."
The wolf howled in response, eager for battle. Even though it had evolved into the Flame Howl Wolf, it still retained its original fighting spirit.
With everyone in position, the Flame Howl Wolf launched itself into action.
"Lightning Strike: Wrath Shock!"
The Lightning Department students attacked first.
Interestingly, Xu Zhaoting didn't participate. He had fought alongside Mo Fan before and knew better. After everything Mo Fan had done to save them, Xu Zhaoting wasn't about to raise his hand against him.
Crackle! Boom!
Multiple Thunder Seals exploded toward the Flame Howl Wolf, which quickly dodged them.
"Fire Burst!" Boom!
"Ice Vines!"
The Flame Howl Wolf was soon entangled in combat with the scattered student formations. However, despite their numbers, the wolf quickly realized their teamwork was non-existent.
Howl!
Dodging their attacks, the wolf unleashed a blast of fire.
"Water Barrier!"
Twenty water mages tried to block the fiery assault, but even they couldn't withstand the wolf's flames.
Meanwhile, Zhuang Lifeng and his group were charging directly at Mo Fan.
"Take him down!" Zhuang Lifeng shouted, summoning ghostly vines from the ground.
"Fire Burst: Explosion!"
"Boom! Boom! Boom!"
Before the vines could reach Mo Fan, he countered with a Fire Burst, blasting them apart. His fire magic was so practiced that he could launch continuous attacks without pause.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
With a series of rapid explosions, Mo Fan sent Zhuang Lifeng flying, leaving him flat on the ground. Mo Fan had clearly held back—otherwise, Zhuang Lifeng would have been severely injured. After all, there was no need to cripple anyone in a school setting.
Though the attacks kept coming, Mo Fan and his Flame Howl Wolf were overwhelming their opponents with ease, proving once again that when you have the strength, there's no need to tolerate nonsense.
