Chapter 8: Chapter 7: ' The Crimson Reapers' Interest '
Hunter slumped against the wall, his eyes fixed on the floor as the weight of his emotions threatened to crush him. The pain and guilt he felt were suffocating, making it hard for him to breathe. He couldn't shake the feeling that he was responsible for everything that had happened.
Minutes ticked by, and Hunter remained frozen in his misery. But as the silence stretched out, something inside him began to shift. His mind started to clear, and his thoughts grew sharper. He took a deep breath, feeling a spark of determination ignite within him.
Hunter's gaze snapped up, locking onto Xavier's concerned expression. "The girls are in danger," he said, his voice low and urgent.
Xavier's brow furrowed. "What's going on?"
Hunter's eyes narrowed. "I received a message from a reliable source. The Crimson Reapers have taken an interest in them."
Xavier's expression turned serious. "We need to be careful. The Reapers aren't to be underestimated."
Hunter's jaw clenched. "I know. But we need to know why they're after the girls."
As the day dragged on, Aria and Emily attended their classes as usual. Xavier kept a close eye on them, making sure they were safe. Hunter, meanwhile, was busy gathering information about the Crimson Reapers.
Three weeks passed, and Hunter finally gathered enough information to call a meeting with Xavier and the girls. They agreed to meet at a park on the outskirts of town.
As they stood in the park, discussing the Crimson Reapers' motives, Xavier frowned. "Why are they after the Eclipse Eyes and Hunter's Blood? Don't they have better things to hunt?"
Hunter's expression turned thoughtful. "Maybe because of the money."
Xavier raised an eyebrow. "Of course not, idiot. There's more to it than that."
Just then, a gust of wind blew through the park, and the group turned to face the east. "Huh," Hunter muttered, his eyes narrowing.
Suddenly, two figures emerged from the trees. Scarlett, with her long, fury red hair cascading down her back like a wildfire, sauntered towards them with a confident smirk. Her piercing green eyes gleamed with a fierce inner light. Freya, with her long, flowing silver hair streaked with hints of light green, followed close behind, her gaze scanning the surroundings with a hint of curiosity.
Xavier's eyes widened in surprise. "S-Scarlett, Freya, what are you doing here?" he stuttered.
Hunter's expression turned calm. "I asked them to come help us."
Scarlett's smirk grew wider. "But don't think we're doing this for you or anything, Hunter. I just don't want another one of my kind of witches dying again." She glanced at Emily, her eyes gleaming with a fierce protectiveness. And Emily returned it with a soothing smile.
Freya chuckled lightly, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "Well, that's just like you. However, Hunter your theory is wrong. "
Hunter's gaze locked onto Freya's. "Then what are they after?"
Freya's expression turned thoughtful. "They're probably after the items themselves."
Xavier's brow furrowed. "Meaning?"
Scarlett's eyes gleamed with a fierce light. "To buy a pair of the Eclipse Eyes in the underworld is impossible, they only appear in the underworld auction, which won't take place until about 50 years."
Freya's gaze locked onto Aria and Emily. "Meaning they probably just want their eyes and blood. Not for any special reason."
Aria and Emily exchanged a shocked glance. "Seriously?" they said in unison, their voices barely above a whisper.
Freya's expression turned dry. "Yeah, did you think they were actually after money?"
Scarlett snorted. "What they want, they take. That's one of the Crimson Reapers' rules."
Freya's gaze locked onto Aria and Emily. "You guys should stay away from them."
Scarlett nodded in agreement. "A word of advice, since you girls don't know exactly how they look like, you can try sensing their aura."
Aria's brow furrowed. "Aura?"
Scarlett's smirk grew wider. "Yes, since you two only know a bit about your powers and how to use them, sensing someone's aura isn't going to be so difficult."
Emily's eyes narrowed. "But we haven't learned how to sense aura."
Xavier's expression turned thoughtful. "You don't have to learn it, anyone can sense a person's aura. You just have to be alert at all times."
Hunter's gaze locked onto Aria and Emily. "We sense aura all the time, but they're usually too weak to notice. However, the Reapers should be way too strong to grab your attention, so that's it."
