Urban: I Got a Space-Time Mailbox and I Can Write to My Past Self

Chapter 8

Chapter 8: Lin Xian, the Small Loan Master! Truly a Genius!:

While eating dinner that evening, Lin Xian’s memories had fully integrated.

The delayed memory synchronization still felt strange, but he had grown accustomed to it.

Every time he sent a letter to the past, the corresponding response would appear on his desk the morning of the specified date. He still hadn’t figured out when the letter disappeared from the red mailbox, but it didn’t matter much.

“Ah, I made a typo… better rewrite it. Can’t afford to mess up the stock ticker.”

Grabbing a fresh sheet of paper, Lin Xian began to write again.

[Dear Yesterday’s Me,]
[Hello.]
[I’ll skip repeating the embarrassing backstory. Let’s take this opportunity to test if proving my identity each time is truly necessary.]
[Now, onto business. On the morning of June 7, 2021, Changhe High-Tech will hit the -10% lower limit. But in the afternoon, major positive news will cause it to skyrocket to the 10% upper limit.]
[You know what to do. Go all in!]
[Sincerely, Your Tomorrow Self]

Satisfied with the content, Lin Xian folded the letter, placed it into an envelope, and affixed a stamp. Just as he was about to drop it into the red mailbox, he hesitated.

“Wait a second… I should help Brother Li out too. Raising kids isn’t easy.”

Taking the letter out, he added a postscript.

[P.S. Help Brother Li out—don’t let him make reckless moves.]

He resealed the envelope and dropped it into the red time-space mailbox.

Thunk.

The sound of the letter hitting the bottom reassured him.

“Alright, I’ll check again in the morning.”

Ring-ring-ring!

The alarm clock blared the next morning, but Lin Xian didn’t immediately get up. Instead, he grabbed his phone.

“Although my new memories haven’t started merging yet… if yesterday’s me received the letter, then my phone should…”

He unlocked his screen and found exactly what he expected:

Tonghuashun!

Tonghuashun is a stock trading app that allows investors to trade in real-time during market hours (weekdays 9:30-11:30 and 13:00-15:00).

But that wasn’t all.

“What… what are all these apps?”

Apart from Tonghuashun, his phone was now loaded with small-loan apps like Huabei, Weidai, Youqianhua, 300Jietiao, and Huanbei.

“How much money did I borrow?!”

Lin Xian opened the apps one by one and tallied the totals. He had borrowed 300,000 yuan from various small-loan platforms.

“…Classic me. I’d do the exact same thing. Truly my own kindred spirit.”

He opened Tonghuashun to check his stock portfolio.

Though he couldn’t trade yet, he could review yesterday’s transaction records:

9:40 AM: Lin Xian activated his stock trading account online.

10:30 AM: Transferred 1.3 million yuan into the account.

This amount included his previous savings of 200,000 yuan, 800,000 yuan from the lottery, and 300,000 yuan borrowed through small loans.

10:31 AM: Bought Changhe High-Tech at the -10% lower limit.

2:55 PM: Sold at the +10% upper limit, netting a 20% profit.

As of now, his stock account displayed a total balance of 1.57 million yuan.

“This is officially the peak of my savings… I’ll sell the stocks as soon as the market opens today.”

Feeling satisfied, Lin Xian got out of bed, freshened up, and took the subway to work.

On the subway, he quickly drew attention.

People surrounded him, from aunties to female college students and office workers.

“Wow! It’s Mr. Lin Xian! You look just like on the news… no, even more handsome!”
“You’re so tall! No wonder you could wade into the river and save those little girls!”
“You’re amazing! Can I take a picture with you? I promise it’s just out of respect for heroes like you!”
“Young man, don’t be fooled by me riding the subway. I own two rental properties downtown. My daughter’s been single for two years since graduating. Why not give her a chance? You’d make the perfect son-in-law!”

Thankfully, his stop came quickly. Lin Xian pulled a mask from his bag and put it on.

“This is getting inconvenient… I should buy a car soon, once I earn a bit more.”

Reaching the office, Lin Xian rode the elevator to the 22nd floor.

No sooner had he sat down than Brother Li approached, grinning ear to ear, holding a breakfast spread of soy milk, fried dough sticks, and pancakes.

“Brother Lin! Brother Lin! I know you’re too busy to eat breakfast, so I got it for you!”

Taken aback, Lin Xian protested, “Brother Li! Stop it. You’re older than me—don’t call me that!”

Unbothered, Brother Li set down the food and even opened the soy milk for him.

“Age-wise, I’m your senior. But in the stock market, you’re my big brother!”
“Brother Lin, what’s the plan for today?”

Before Lin Xian could respond, Vice President Zhang appeared between them, grinning and casually grabbing a dough stick to munch on.

“Lin Xian! I’ve got a surprise for you!”
