Chapter 10:
Chapter 10: The Familiar High-Scoring Girl:
The stock curve of Changhe High-Tech suddenly plummeted like a waterfall. Within moments, its 5% gain shrank to just 2%.
Lin Xian focused on his work, but Brother Li kept staring at the stock trading app.
By the midday closing, Changhe High-Tech had dropped to a mere 1% gain.
When the market reopened in the afternoon, the stock took a nosedive, plunging to -4%, where it stayed for the rest of the day without much fluctuation.
Watching this sharp downward trend, Brother Li broke into a cold sweat.
He rushed downstairs to the vending machine, bought two cans of iced cola, and placed one on Lin Xian’s desk, opening it for him.
“Brother Lin! You’re incredible! Good thing we sold this morning. Otherwise, we’d be stuck again in the afternoon!”
Lin Xian sipped the cold cola and sighed.
“Brother Li, after selling today, your 300,000 yuan must have grown to 340,000, right?”
“Actually, 350,000! I’ve made 50,000 yuan in just two days—all thanks to you!”
“Since you’ve cashed out, you should stop trading altogether. That 50,000 is enough to cover your second child’s preschool fees. The 300,000 you saved to buy a car? Use it for that instead. With more kids, a car is a necessity.”
Brother Li stared at Lin Xian, dumbfounded.
He had just tasted the sweetness of success, and now he was being told to quit?
Lin Xian patted his shoulder and said gently, “Brother Li, your personality isn’t suited for stock trading. You sell when it drops, and you buy when it rises. If you keep chasing trends, you’ll lose everything sooner or later.”
“Tell me, in all your years of trading, have you ever made money—aside from this time?”
The question struck Brother Li like a bolt of lightning.
Thinking back, he realized he had never actually profited. Even when he did, he’d eventually lose it all.
Lin Xian was right. His temperament made him unsuitable for the stock market.
He thought of his two young children at home, and of his frugal wife, who wouldn’t even buy herself a new pair of slippers.
Determined, Brother Li deleted his stock trading app.
“Screw it! I’m done! As long as I don’t trade, I’ll always be 50,000 yuan richer!”
He drained his cola in one gulp and slammed the bottle down on the desk.
“Brother Lin! You helped me earn this 50,000. I have to show my gratitude!”
“Tonight, we’re going all out! Let’s hit the city’s most luxurious MT Bar—my treat! Bring Little Wang and Mr. Zhang along too!”
Lin Xian declined repeatedly, but Brother Li was adamant. He knew that without Lin Xian’s guidance, he wouldn’t have made 50,000 yuan—he’d have lost 50,000 instead.
Unable to refuse, Lin Xian finally agreed.
After finishing his work in the afternoon, Lin Xian remembered to pay off the loans he had taken from the various loan apps.
The total loan amount of 300,000 yuan came with daily interest of over 200 yuan—an outrageous rate!
After clearing the debt, Lin Xian was left with 1.35 million yuan in assets. The growth was impressive nonetheless.
…
(In the evening)
After a light buzz from a barbecue dinner, the three of them headed to MT Bar.
Outside the bar, luxury cars lined the street, and inside, beautiful women were everywhere. It was the most extravagant bar in Donghai City.
Just booking a table here cost at least 4,000 yuan. Adding fruit platters, drinks, and snacks, a night could easily run close to 10,000 yuan.
This was far beyond the reach of ordinary wage earners.
Brother Li was so generous tonight not only because he had made a big profit but also because of his gratitude to Lin Xian. He couldn’t just settle for a 200-yuan barbecue outing.
Lin Xian, however, wasn’t a fan of bars. He couldn’t see what was so fun about them.
The other three gave him the same answer: “To look at beautiful women!”
Their purpose was simple and crystal clear.
Lin Xian could only shake his head and laugh.
In his twenty-odd years, while he wasn’t particularly interested in beautiful women, they seemed very interested in him.
He remembered back in high school, when the acknowledged school beauty, Liu Yiyi, sat next to him for two years.
Every day, he watched her transform.
Her petite frame became more developed.
Her short hair grew long, then short again.
Her ponytail became loose, then tied up once more.
After being in such close proximity to a heavenly beauty like Liu Yiyi for so long, Lin Xian had become immune to ordinary beauty.
A standard “7-out-of-10” woman didn’t stir him at all anymore.
Brother Li, bursting with enthusiasm, declared as soon as they sat at their VIP table, “Tonight, no holding back! Drink as much as you like! I’m footing the bill!”
After their toast, Lin Xian raised his glass of beer and took a sip.
As he lifted his head, he noticed a girl in a nearby booth who seemed familiar.
For Lin Xian to recognize someone as familiar, they had to score at least a “7” in his book.
This girl, however, was a solid “9.”
“What’s she doing here?” he wondered.
