Chapter 38: Chapter 38: The Ninth Ban
Visitors from the Wen Family?
Lin Jiufeng was surprised. "How did her family even know she was here?"
Bai Yunfei nodded. "Back in the Wen family, she was bullied by everyone. That's why she ran away. I found her, felt sorry for her, and brought her to the Yuhua Sect. No one knew about this. I have no idea how her family found out."
"How many people came? When did they arrive?" Lin Jiufeng frowned.
"This morning. About a dozen of them, led by four Eighth Ban experts," Bai Yunfei replied.
Lin Jiufeng turned to look at Wen Xinyun. She wasn't in pain, but her face was filled with resentment. Tears streamed down her face as she clenched her fists so tightly that the veins on her wrists bulged.
"Martial Uncle, the Yuhua Sect is my home. I'm not leaving." Wen Xinyun suddenly wiped her tears away and said firmly.
Lin Jiufeng was puzzled. "Who said you had to leave?"
Wen Xinyun froze, staring blankly at Lin Jiufeng.
Lin Jiufeng smiled. "Silly girl, did you think that just because four Eighth Ban cultivators showed up, we'd let them take you away?"
Wen Xinyun shook her head immediately. "I never thought that. I just don't want to leave, but I also don't want to be a burden to the Yuhua Sect."
"You're the senior sister of the Yuhua Sect, the future leader of the next generation. How could you be a burden? Stop overthinking things." Lin Jiufeng reached out and gently ruffled Wen Xinyun's hair, speaking in a warm tone.
Wen Xinyun felt warmth in her heart. Her eyes turned red, and tears welled up again.
Lin Jiufeng quickly changed the topic. "Tell us about your past. You always mentioned that your family was big, but we never knew exactly how big."
Bai Yunfei added, "Yeah, you never wanted to talk about it before, so I didn't ask. Now, you can tell us."
Lin Jiufeng sat in his chair, his gaze encouraging. Bai Yunfei pulled Wen Xinyun to sit down so she could speak at her own pace.
Yue Dashan and Zhou Tianzi watched silently from the side.
Bai Ling, the little spirit beast, hopped onto Lin Jiufeng's shoulder, also quietly observing. She thought Wen Xinyun was already breathtakingly beautiful, but when she cried, she looked even more stunning.
Wen Xinyun took a deep breath to calm herself and slowly began, "I come from one of the Eight Ancient Clans—the Wen family."
"My father was the most outstanding genius of his generation in the Wen family, but he died young because he was too talented. My mother was heartbroken when she heard the news. She accidentally fell, suffered a severe hemorrhage, and passed away."
"At that time, I was still in her womb. But my family didn't want me to be born. They buried my mother directly."
"In her coffin, she miraculously regained consciousness. With the last of her strength, she gave birth to me inside the coffin."
Wen Xinyun lowered her head, speaking slowly. Her voice choked with emotion, and her tears dripped onto the floor one by one.
The surroundings fell into complete silence. No one had expected Wen Xinyun's past to be so tragic.
Even Bai Ling, who had little interest in human emotions, was shocked.
Lin Jiufeng and Bai Yunfei exchanged glances, both seeing the same deep shock in each other's eyes.
No one spoke. They just quietly listened as Wen Xinyun continued.
"I cried inside the coffin for an entire day before someone discovered me. When they dug up the grave and opened the coffin, everyone looked at me as if they had seen a ghost. They were terrified."
"I remember that moment vividly."
Wen Xinyun let out a self-deprecating chuckle. She raised her head to look at everyone, and in that instant, her pupils turned completely white—pure, translucent white, without any distinction between the iris and the sclera. It was eerily striking.
"No one knew that I was born with heterochromatic eyes. The moment I was born, I could see everything and remember everything."
Lin Jiufeng silently watched as Wen Xinyun's eyes changed from pure white back to their normal black and white. He let out a soft breath, saying nothing—only gazing at her with affection.
"They took me back to the Wen family. Given my father's contributions to the clan, I should have been treated as a noble lady. But they said I had brought misfortune, that I killed my mother, that I was born in a coffin and was naturally cursed. They deemed me unworthy of the status of a young lady. If I wanted to stay in the Wen family, I had to start as a servant."
"So, from the age of three, I learned how to serve others—carefully, cautiously, afraid of making any mistakes. But no matter how hard I tried, there were still people who whispered behind my back, deliberately causing trouble, beating me, humiliating me."
"Since childhood, I had no sense of belonging in the Wen family. My only thought was to escape."
"But the Wen family is one of the Eight Ancient Clans. They have their own hidden realm, and without opening the gate, it's nearly impossible to leave. Even if I managed to sneak out of the main estate, I couldn't escape their reach. So I endured, quietly gathering information."
"Then, one day, I found out about a shipment leaving the family. I hid inside the cargo and smuggled myself out. That's when I met Master and came to the Yuhua Sect."
Wen Xinyun's voice was calm. Except for the moment when she spoke of her mother giving birth to her in the coffin, she remained composed.
The past humiliation, the beatings, everything about the Wen family was painful for her—memories she didn't want to recall.
After coming to the Yuhua Sect and experiencing the warmth of family, Wen Xinyun knew that she could never leave this place.
But now, just a few years into her peaceful life, the Wen family had come to take her back by force.
Thinking of this, Wen Xinyun clenched her fists tightly. Her nails dug into her palms, but she didn't even notice.
"Even if I die, I will die in the Yuhua Sect. I will never go back to the Wen family." Wen Xinyun swore to herself.
When she finished speaking, Yue Dashan finally burst into tears. This giant man sobbed uncontrollably. "Master Sister has suffered too much! There's no way she's going back to that Wen family!"
Zhou Tianzi nodded firmly. "That's right! Why return to such a place? Senior Sister, don't worry. With Master, Martial Uncle, and us, we will protect you!"
Lin Jiufeng turned to Bai Yunfei. "Where are the Wen family members now?"
"I met with them this morning. They thanked me for taking care of Wen Xinyun but claimed I was unworthy of being her master. They ordered me to hand her over, or else the Yuhua Sect would cease to exist," Bai Yunfei sneered. "They gave me one day to consider. They'll return tomorrow morning to take her away. What a joke."
Lin Jiufeng smirked. "Then we'll wait until tomorrow morning. I'd like to see just how powerful this so-called 'Eight Ancient Clans' really are."
At that moment, an indifferent voice echoed from the void.
"Oh? Is that so?"
An overwhelming force, like a tidal wave, crashed down upon them. Bai Yunfei's expression changed drastically as the chair beneath him shattered into dust. He staggered, nearly collapsing to his knees.
"The Ninth Ban…"
Bai Yunfei turned in horror toward the mountains outside the scripture pavilion, where a lone figure stood tall.
