Unrivaled Comprehension: From Mortal to Immortal King

Chapter 193: Chapter 31: The Ancient Battlefield Buried Deep Underground

After the breakthrough, the Sacred Beast Qilin roared endlessly within Lin Jiufeng's Inner World, venting his frustration from being drained of his vital essence over fifty times.

Once the venting was over, the Sacred Beast Qilin calmed down, restraining his aura. Riding on clouds and mist, he approached Lin Jiufeng with a triumphant grin.

"Boss, now we're at the same cultivation level," he said proudly.

Lin Jiufeng chuckled. "Yes, you've caught up to me."

"But my physical space is nowhere near as vast as your Inner World," the Qilin admitted with a hint of regret.

"How large is your physical space?" Lin Jiufeng asked curiously.

"Less than a thousand miles. Not even a tenth of yours," the Qilin replied.

The Taiyuan Immortal walked over with a gentle smile. "Your physical space is already impressive. Many who open their physical spaces for the first time can't even reach this size."

Seeing the Taiyuan Immortal approach, the Sacred Beast Qilin instinctively retreated, hiding behind Lin Jiufeng. The psychological shadow left by being drained of his essence over fifty times was still fresh in his mind.

Lin Jiufeng chuckled at the Qilin's reaction. "The Taiyuan Immortal Palace can now absorb spiritual energy on its own. It no longer requires your essence."

"That's a relief!" The Qilin beamed with joy.

The Taiyuan Immortal laughed softly. He knew that the repeated draining of the Qilin's essence had left a deep mental scar.

"While you were in seclusion breaking through, I not only controlled the Taiyuan Immortal Palace to absorb spiritual energy but also explored the area within a hundred-mile radius," the Taiyuan Immortal said. "I discovered an ancient battlefield buried deep underground."

Lin Jiufeng and the Qilin both looked at him in surprise.

"An ancient battlefield buried underground?" Lin Jiufeng repeated.

The Taiyuan Immortal nodded. "Yes. Due to the passage of time, changes in the earth's crust, and the rise and fall of mountains, the battlefield has been buried deep underground. As a result, it has remained remarkably intact."

"An intact battlefield?" Lin Jiufeng's eyes lit up with excitement.

The Sacred Beast Qilin's eyes also gleamed with anticipation.

An intact battlefield meant untouched treasures, ancient relics, and countless mysteries waiting to be discovered.

"You've both recently made breakthroughs. This would be a good time to explore," the Taiyuan Immortal said, his tone turning serious. "But be cautious. When I probed the battlefield using the energy of the Taiyuan Immortal Palace, a strange force repelled me."

"What? Something repelled the energy of the Taiyuan Immortal Palace?" Lin Jiufeng's expression turned grave.

The Taiyuan Immortal Palace was a powerful immortal artifact. Even in its weakened state, it should have been impervious to most threats.

"Let's go explore," Lin Jiufeng decided without hesitation. He left his Inner World and the Taiyuan Immortal Palace, stepping into the underground cavern with the Sacred Beast Qilin.

"Follow this tunnel downwards for about three thousand meters. That's where the battlefield is located," the Taiyuan Immortal's voice echoed in Lin Jiufeng's mind.

Boom!

The Sacred Beast Qilin immediately unleashed his innate flames, burning through stone and earth, melting everything in his path as he descended.

For the Qilin, traversing three thousand meters was a trivial task. In moments, they reached the underground depths.

"Boss, there's a barrier here!" the Qilin exclaimed.

Beneath his hooves lay a layer of milky-white light that resisted his flames effortlessly. Despite the terrifying heat of the Qilin's flames, the radiant light merely rippled gently, remaining unscathed.

Lin Jiufeng quickly ordered the Qilin to step back. It was clear that this milky-white light was some sort of powerful protective force.

"Taiyuan Immortal, come and take a look," Lin Jiufeng called out, knowing the immortal's vast knowledge would be essential.

The Taiyuan Immortal emerged from the Taiyuan Immortal Palace as a phantom of energy, observing the radiant barrier carefully. He occasionally reached out to test it, his expression thoughtful.

"This isn't a barrier," the Taiyuan Immortal said gravely.

"Not a barrier?" Lin Jiufeng was puzzled.

"If it's not a barrier, why did it actively repel my flames?" The Qilin was equally confused.

"It repelled your flames because it instinctively seeks to protect something," the Taiyuan Immortal explained, his gaze focused on the glowing light.

"Protect something?" Lin Jiufeng frowned. "You mean there's someone alive down here?"

The Qilin immediately grew wary, his eyes sharp.

The Taiyuan Immortal shook his head. "It's protecting something, yes. But it's not alive. What we're seeing is likely the residual energy of a powerful being whose body remains uncorrupted even after death. This energy passively shields itself from harm."

"This ancient battlefield has been buried for hundreds of thousands of years. It existed even before the decline of the human race. In fact, it might have been formed during a great battle in the Immortal Realm. When that realm collapsed, this battlefield fell into the Dimensional Battlefield. If that's true, then the body producing this energy must belong to a true immortal."

Lin Jiufeng's eyes widened. His analysis led him to the same conclusion.

The Taiyuan Immortal nodded. "Precisely. For this energy to remain so powerful after countless years, the one who left it behind must have been an immortal of exceptional strength."

"How do we get in?" the Qilin asked eagerly.

Both he and Lin Jiufeng were now filled with curiosity and anticipation.

"Suppress your aura, and remain completely calm. Do not show any hostility or intention to harm," the Taiyuan Immortal instructed. "If you do that, the energy will not resist you. It is simply a remnant of a past power protecting itself."

Lin Jiufeng followed the instructions, collecting his aura, appearing entirely peaceful. He even allowed a hint of reverence to show as he slowly approached the milky-white glow.

This time, the light did not hinder him.

The Qilin imitated Lin Jiufeng's approach, succeeding as well.

When they passed through the barrier, they were greeted by an expansive underground chamber. The air was heavy with ancient energy, and the ground was littered with divine weapons. Most were corroded by the passage of time, their brilliance long faded.

Lin Jiufeng picked up a rusted arrowhead. Once, it must have been a fearsome weapon, but now, its formations had collapsed, and its divine metal had lost its resilience.

He looked across the battlefield. In the dim light, rusted swords and broken armor lay scattered like autumn leaves. Blood had seeped into the metal over millennia, causing crimson patterns to bloom like flowers—a hauntingly beautiful testament to the tragic battles of the past.
