Chapter 77: Chapter V Jake's past part III
Jake looks around in his room before getting up, leaving Evie in the bed to sleep. Not wanting to wake her up he goes out on a run to try and shake off the overwhelming sadness that washes over him. After about thirty minutes, he walks towards a tombstone. On it reads Noelleia Silvierstone, barely legible from the centuries of weathering. Behind her grave are the graves of the rest of the squad. "I'm sorry my queen, the empire is long gone." Jake rests next to the tombstone and drifts back to sleep. He looks up at the stars as he feels his eyelids drift off back to sleep.
"Hey, you awake?" John asks Sera with a warm hug and kiss. The sheets keep them warm from a northern winter that sweeps throughout the semi neon city. "Hmmm, yeah, now I am" Sera says slightly giggling. The two look outside to see a city covered in flickering neon lights, keeping the hope of a futuristic city alive, but revealing the budget of the failing economy before them.
"Shall we get to work?" Sera asks. John sighs, refusing to let go of Sera. He then looks over at his suit in the corner. The mask staring back at John with its golden eyes, as John looks back with a pair of his own. John's flirty nature begins to fade as he releases Sera. "Sorry" he sighs as a radio signal begins to sound in John's mask. "Hey, are you there? I called earlier." John begins to suit up as the defector agent continues to call his radio. "Yeah, I'm here," John says. "Here are my coordinates. I'm with some troops, so be prepared to fight." John looks back at Sera. "How many?" Sera shakes her head a little. "Not that much, like ten. I mean not much for you." John smiles a little. "Sounds fine to me."
Meanwhile, Remi, Blyke, Isen, and Arlo are all sneaking into the courthouse as the media outside try to get inside to document it. The four find themselves sneaking slowly through each hallway until they get into a smaller theater right next to the meeting room. They see familiar politicians like the Count of Whales, Lord Sabeth, Vetrum, Lord Enthidious, Lord Charles and Lord Satorn, all older looking men whose names are well known in the world of politics. As they talk, Isen is recording them. They all split up to do some spying after the meeting, separating them. "Banana head, what's the word on Vetrum and Sorton?" Remi asks. "Talking about moving troops in to take cities once the enemy gets their agenda rolling. Sounds like they're in on it, yet I'm not surprised. How about you pinkie?"
"Nothing much here with Lord Enthidi-" Remi's radio cuts out. The four all look around as the lights cut out. "Pinkie, REMI?!" As Arlo panics from Remi's sudden disappearance he yells a tad bit too loudly. Attracting unwanted attention. "Reveal yourself!" a rather polite older voice commands. Arlo freezes as he's come to the realization that he's been caught, so he comes out of the box he's hiding in ready to fight as two of the senators come out with their blades. "Prove yourself Sorton" the older gentleman said. Arlo locked eyes with Sorton as his blade ignites with red aura. It flickers with instability, his hair flows back slicked with oil, his face greasy. He wore a heavy leather suit with a cape that waves with every movement of the young senator. Arlo stands his ground as he grinds his teeth as a barrier forms over himself and Sorton.
Meanwhile Remi is surrounded by guards, who wear red meanicing cloaks and hold spears with electric tips at the end. The guards don't hesitate to jab them at her, however the electricity that was supposed to shock her fuels her, she zaps them all to the ground as her eyes glow an intense mix of amber orange and blue. "The plot thickens" Remi says to herself as she looks up at a dark hooded figure. An old man comes out of the shadows, he looks at Remi with a sinister smile as he holds his frail arms out. "Oh Remi, the granddaughter of Colson Mcgreth. You're such a fool for coming. He shocks her back against the wall with his lightning as he lets out a cackling laugh. "Those men treated you well I assume? Your power suits me more! I can do what you could never!"
"Yeah well, that doesn't make it up for grabs! I know you sent those traffickers after me. I know you took my blood and used it to infuse you with power! You're part of the invasion plan!" The old man continues to laugh. "My whole branch of government is, this whole world is. Only the strong can manifest the destiny of our species. Your friends will die, and I will beat you, revealing who X-Rei really is to the world as we finally solidify our destiny as elites!" More lightning is shot at Remi, she leaps around, dodging them as they burn up the walls and floor. "Blyke, we have to hurry, I can hear Remi fighting!" "No shit I can too but the vent is getting tighter!" Another elderly man walks under the vent, dismissing his guards as he reaches out his hand. He snickers as he shoots lightning, blasting the vents and shocking both Isen and Blyke, who fall down to the ground as he pulls out a curved sword.
The two boys pick themselves up as their foe stood with his cape flapping from the ventilation drafts. Isen immediately charges at him as Blyke begins to shoot out lasers. Lightning is shot back, yet despite being shocked Isen still lands a punch across the man's face as Blyke's beams scrape his body, nearly hitting him. "Count Whales" Blyke uttered as the three took a breath. The three begin to activate their aura once more.
Jake wakes up from a dream, remembering the way his hands once slayed as he traveled through Hell. Family, friends, once his people, they now called him traitor as he drove a blade through their bodies. "I give up," he uttered as he proceeded to walk forward. "I just want to go home," he says, looking up at the sky. "I wonder if she's up there thinking about me?" Jake turns his head to see Evie still in the shack sleeping in the bed. "I can't drag her into all of this. Why did she follow me out here?"
On a rooftop, John looks down and sees a squad of soldiers with yellow and black attire on. "Alright, get in your position" John says as he continues to observe the group of Northern soldiers. The defector agent gives him the go, allowing The Golden God to drop through the roof as his cape flaps behind him.
"FIRE, FIRE!"
The soldiers fire their weapons, however they have no effect on The Golden God, they use their abilities to generate concrete walls and throw concrete grenades, little damage is dealt. John copies their abilities and shoots shards of concrete at them, taking them all out with their concrete power. He looks around to make sure it's clear before signaling for his ally to come out. "Hey, you can come out now!" The defector came out. A hidden officer who avoided the shards calls in some back up with a click of a button, John hears this and shoots some Shardnels at the officer, killing him. The defector takes off his equipment. "So, you're the defector?" The man nods. "Yes, I go by Zenn. And well, I used to Work with The Electroman. A vigilante who ran these streets way back in the day. You can call him Colson, Mcgreth."
Meanwhile, Arlo using his barrier against Lord Sorton, his unstable energy from his aura enhanced sword and his super strength keeps breaking Arlo's barrier. No matter how much aura he puts into his aura, Arlo struggles to keep up his blue barrier. He eventually starts to wear out, so he punches Sorton across the room and tackles him to the ground, beating him to a bloody pulp. Sorton pushes Arlo back as his eyes glow a mean red. He puts on a mask as his cloak begins to wrap itself in the form of a wool hood and cloak. Arlo uses his barrier to shield himself and pushes it all around, slamming the two governors against the wall. Sorton's mask he puts on breaks as it takes beatings while enhancing Sorton's aura. Arlo lunges towards Sorton, breaking the mask, and continues to beat Sorton to a pulp. Sorton once again throws Arlo across the room and gets up with no mask and no cloak. "What a brat, quit acting like you have any reason to betray your country! How can you all just sit around as a foreign nation attacks us?!"
At this moment Arlo's eyes glow white, so does his barrier, he sends a powerful shockwave towards Sorton, knocking him back, the impact was enough to break his back completely, causing Sorton to die. Arlo finds his hands shaking as he watches the young senator's neck snap. His blade fades in color, and he finds himself standing before Vetrum. A man of great power. Arlo was not used to this encounter, Vetrum normally wore a lot of brown, and had nice curly hair to compliment his brunette look. Yet before him stood a man in a mask and suit, a bulky body trapped in a machine that juiced his body for its own aura. "He was a failure of an apprentice" Vetrum says as he walks forward as his commanding silhouette strikes fear into Arlo. "How disappointing."
Meanwhile, The Count of Whales is holding off against Blyke and Isen, Blyke keeps sending lasers but they get reflected, one hits his shoulder, he heals up and charges at the count sending punches and kicks only to get sent flying back. Isen does the same, activating his unnatural, he manages to overpower the count. He sends him flying into Blyke for him to kick. The count retreats far away from them, they follow him however the count manages to disappear, the building is on high alert, Blyke and Isen however run into another hooded figure. "Hey, tell us where that punk went!" Blyke threatens as he holds up his hands as finger guns. The man activates his ability, his eyes glow red, he grows some horns on top of his head, his skin turns red and black.
"Shit, Devil man?" Isen asks, horrified. "I don't know, just assume so!"
Blyke and Isen charge at the man as he pulls out a rod which turns into an aura staff. Blyke focuses his energy on the right side while Isen goes for the left side, at this point the boys are using full force, but are getting blocked by each blade. The master of the double sword manages to evenly match the two high schoolers. He sends them flying back. Blyke out of frustration sends a giant laser at the man, only for him to doge and land a stab on Blyke. Blyke shoots himself back in order to avoid death. Which hits the martial artist in the leg. Isen kicks him far into a wall, he then shoves him through the wall which leads to a platform hundreds of feet off the ground, Blyke goes after Isen and the man, knocking himself into the man.
However the man force pushes Isen back into another man, who's skin glows black and yellow, he swings his spear at Isen. Isen blocks the spear hit and breaks it, then he pushes the man on the ground and starts to beat him badly, even going as far as to break a couple of his horns off. The man in red throws his double bladed aura sword at Blyke. Blyke jumps and the sword is heading towards Isen, Isen ducks in the nick of time and is covering Blyke's six. Blyke looks at his unarmed opponent while Isen looks at his opponent who now has a double bladed sword, catching it and arming himself. "Idiot, once I finish you off I'll just help my friend here. You got no weapon, nothing!" Blyke almost laughs as he looks around the room. The man in red takes out another sword that glows red. "Tch, that all you got?" Blyke asks with laughter. The man in red also pulls out a sword that glows black, its presence strikes Isen and Blyke funny, like their aura is slightly draining. "Fuck" Blyke uttered as he stared at the blade lacking of aura. A sub zero energetic power that contains a negative quantity of energy. "There's no doubt about it, that sword is off, something about it is...." Blykes thoughts are interrupted by the man in red swinging at Blyke, he propels himself in the air and fires some shots at him, they all miss, the man in red jumps to Blykes level and kicks him down. Isen is feeling the Aura effect, he can barely focus on his opponent, despite him being reckless with a blade, just swinging it around trying to hit something. Blyke looks around, unable to get up, he sees some propane tanks on the walls, next to the exits of the platform they lie. Below them is a pit that drops a couple miles down. Weak from this strange aura depletion, Isen gets an idea. Meanwhile, Arlo gets up, his plague mask destroyed, he puts on what was left of the mask remnants. It covers his eyes, two triangles that bridge down to cover the nose.
His white hood with two back tails flapping behind him like a cape, he looks at lord Vetrum as his white barrier forms over him. Lord Vetrum sends in soldiers into the room, they all circle around Arlo as they fire at him, the bullets reflect perfectly, killing each soldier with their own shot. Lord Vetrum slashes his sword at Arlo, it breaks his barrier but Arlo doesn't take any reflective damage. Vetrum stood there menacingly as the machine suit consumed his flesh in exchange for power. He sends stuff flying at Arlo, his barrier blocks them, Arlo then sends up some spikes to pierce Lord Vetrum. Lord Vetrum keeps hitting his barrier, but has no luck breaking it. Lord Vetrum uses his anti aura function on his suit, Arlo suddenly loses his unnatural, as if he was the same level he was when he first became king of Wellston high. Vetrum then sends a hard punch at Arlo, Arlo goes flying through a wall.
Arlo looks up as soldiers surround him, they fire at his barrier, tiny cracks form but they get reflected back at the shooters. Arlo manages to get back onto his feet where he can create a giant shockwave to repel the soldiers away. He looks at Vetrum with a nasty glare through his mask. "You're quite strong, you must be one of us." Vetrum says as he circles around Arlo. His breathing is now decrepit. "I don't belong to any group. I'm my own legacy" Arlo replied. "Yes, but a god tier at the very least. You've unlocked abilities most will never begin to experience. You appreciate your strength unlike most the elite. Even I need this weak suit of armor to eat away at my cellular structure to taste what you've been feeling." Arlo sighs. "Why are you telling me this?" Vetrum extends his hand. "You're no fool, you know about the whole conspiracy. With a new line of administration to handle this continent, we can overthrow our oppressors and make sure the weak never suffer again." Arlo laughs "By making everyone weak. You're taking away rights." Vetrum sighs. "The weak, when given strength, will only lash out against their oppressors." Arlo grits his teeth as his eyes begin to glow. "Rightfully so, because it is the job of the strong to do what's better for society, not themselves."
"When I was weak, I was forced to the back of the line. When my family needed care, we were excluded from the best of the best all because of our status. The strong don't need those beneath them, they just need themselves to stay strong. When my wife was kicked out of the nearest hospital because of her ability and strength, I had no choice but to deliver my own child in a dirty alleyway alone. In that alleyway, my wife's uterus was torn apart and my own child suffocated by the chord that nourished it for months." Arlo just stares at Vetrum horrified. "You are a young man, full of ambition and strength. You mean well, so I tell you this because you can give us-"
"What about The Golden God?! What about all the hero's who've sacrificed themselves for the people?!" Arlo asked in desperation. "In a world of equality, there is no Golden God. A man who turns the elite's power against themselves has no power once his oppressor's are gone. He is merely a product of a corrupt culture. Those who came before him are merely a prophecy, and those who came after are nothing more than followers."
"Then why? Why are you fighting for the elite?!" Arlo asks as he and Vetrum begin to duel. "To influence the elite. The same reason why you're insistent on keeping the system! I'll fix this country, and make sure no one has abilities, that way no one will have to go through what I did!" Arlo and Vetrum both charge at each other, filled with rage for the other side, no honor, no pride, no sense of moral fighting in their hearts, they would literally bite each other's balls off to win it that's what it meant, they will fight dirty, gross, cheater like methods of inhuman leverage, if it means victory, then it's victory. They will degrade themselves as less than human, if it means they'll be victorious.
Meanwhile, Remi fights off Lord Enthidious. He shoots more electricity at Remi while he strikes her with his swords. Remi falls back while the battle intensifies. Blyke and Isen look hopeless as the two demon-filled warriors close in on them, with soldiers covering the exits. Arlo and Lord Vetrum are both caught up in a choke hold, trying to suffocate each other out.
