Chapter 40: Forever yours

The morning sun cast a warm glow through the windows of their mansion, painting the room with hues of gold. Sophie stood before the full-length mirror in their bedroom, adjusting the lace of the dress she had chosen for the day. Today wasn't just any other day—it was the day Tony had promised to make everything official between them, to take a step forward in their relationship, and finally cement their love.

Her heart fluttered nervously. This wasn't the grand wedding she'd once imagined as a little girl. But it was special. And it was hers. The love she had for Tony had grown over time, through every challenge, every argument, and every kiss. Despite all the ups and downs, they had found their way back to each other. They had healed.

Sophie could hear Tony's footsteps outside the door, and the faint sound of him greeting their staff. He had been distant for a while, still processing everything that had happened, but she knew today would change everything.

The door opened slowly, and there stood Tony, dressed in a sharp, navy suit, his eyes soft yet intense as they met hers.

"You're beautiful," he said, his voice low and tender. He stepped into the room, his presence comforting and familiar. His hand reached out, brushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear.

Sophie smiled nervously, unsure of what to say. She was so used to being the one uncertain in their relationship, always wondering if Tony would ever be able to truly love her. But now, as they stood together in this moment, she finally felt it—the certainty. The trust.

"Are you ready?" Tony asked, his voice steady, but Sophie could see the slight tremor in his hands.

She nodded, taking a deep breath. "I am."

He smiled, a mixture of relief and anticipation on his face. "We'll get through this together, Sophie. Every step."

With that, they walked hand-in-hand down the grand staircase, where their families, friends, and a few close business associates had gathered. It wasn't a large affair, but it was intimate and meaningful.

As they stood before the small crowd, Tony turned to her with a solemn look. "Sophie," he began, his eyes never leaving hers. "I don't think words can ever fully express how much you mean to me. But I want to spend the rest of my life proving it to you, every day. So, with all my heart, I ask you—will you marry me, properly, this time?"

The room was silent, everyone waiting with bated breath. Sophie's heart raced in her chest, her hands trembling as she clutched the fabric of her dress.

"Yes," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. "Yes, Tony, I will."

A cheer erupted from the crowd as Tony smiled, the relief evident in his eyes. He cupped her face gently, his thumbs brushing her cheeks before leaning down to kiss her, sealing the promise they had made.

As their lips met, the world around them seemed to fade away, and for a moment, all that mattered was the love they had fought for and the life they were about to build together.

Later that day, Sophie and Tony sat down for a quiet dinner, just the two of them. It was a simple meal, yet it held so much significance. They had come so far, from their broken beginnings to this moment of healing and love.

"I don't want a grand wedding," Sophie confessed, her voice soft as she looked at Tony, her eyes filled with vulnerability. "I just want to be with you."

Tony's expression softened. "And you will be. Every day of my life."

Sophie smiled, feeling a warmth settle in her chest. She had her heart's desire—Tony's love, his commitment, and their future together.

And, in that moment, she knew that no matter what the future held, they would face it together, hand-in-hand.
