Type-Moon: God of War

Chapter 22: Chapter 22: The God of Virgins

[3rd POV]

'What the hell! Why did I even say that? I have to find a way to break this vow or else kill myself. Who wants to die a virgin?!"

After making this vow, Ares instantly felt himself locked in by the restraining force, and a protective blessing from that force enveloped him.

However, as soon as his words fell, all the gods present, whether Athena, Zeus, Poseidon, or Apollo, were so shocked that they froze in place, unable to snap out of it for a long time.

The goddess of dawn, Eos, who had always been flirting Ares, fainted when she heard his vow because she just couldn't handle it.

When hearing Ares' vow, Hecate spat out the wine in her mouth with a loud "pfft." She immediately covered her mouth, her entire body trembling with laughter, and even her makeup started to mess up.

"Ahaha, truly worthy of being my disciple."

Hecate said, wiping away the tears of laughter from the corners of her eyes, still coughing and gasping for breath, "You're a real genius!"

Standing nearby, Artemis gazed at Ares with admiration and thought, 'Zeus has been urging me to marry lately as well... Should I make a vow like this for myself?'

Aside from Hecate's laughter, Olympus fell into complete silence.

After a long pause, Zeus slowly turned his head with confusion and asked his son, "Ares… What exactly are you trying to achieve?"

"I want to defeat Athena! No matter the cost!"

Ares shouted angrily.

"A man isn't defined by marriage or children! A true man charges onto the battlefield, fights for his beliefs, and wins—no matter the price! That is what it means to be a man! That is what it means to be a true warrior!"

He clenched his fists, feeling his blood boil as he shouted. As Ares' words echoed through the air, Olympus fell into the second long silence in countless years.

After a long silence, Zeus finally spoke to his son with a tone of respect.

"Ares... truly live up to your name."

As an old pervert himself, Zeus simply couldn't fathom how he could endure a life without being close to beautiful women. The very thought of such a fate made him feel a bit of respect for his son.

Meanwhile, upon hearing Ares's "Vow of Virginity," even Poseidon and Apollo were utterly shocked. The two gods exchanged bewildered glances, standing frozen in place, at a complete loss for words.

"Uncle, brother, do you still want me to marry Aphrodite?"

Ares stood tall with his hands on his hips, taking a step forward and staring directly at Poseidon.

"You win, you win."

Poseidon said, not knowing what else to say to his nephew. He waved his hands, gave up trying to force Ares into marriage, and stepped back into the crowd of gods.

Apollo plucked at the strings of his lyre, not sure how to respond to him, and in the end, he could only say, "Ares, I'm so impressed by you that I can't put it into words. I suppose I'll have to express my feelings later… through music."

After saying that, Apollo followed Poseidon back to stand with the other gods.

Seeing that he had successfully driven back Poseidon and Apollo, Ares suddenly felt like his entire being had grown taller and more powerful.

He turned around and loudly said to the goddess of love and beauty, Aphrodite, who was now completely dumbfounded by the situation.

"Did you hear that, Aphrodite? From now on, I am the God of Virgins! Stay away from me!"

"You... you!"

Aphrodite shuddered at Ares' loud shout, tears immediately welling up in her eyes. She pointed at him through her teary gaze and shouted, "You better remember this!"

Seeing the tears on Aphrodite's face, many of the gods around her couldn't help but show a look of sympathy. However, their eyes quickly turned to Ares with clear dissatisfaction.

Noticing the glares from the other gods, Ares scanned the room and, with his head held high, shouted back, "What are you all looking at? What's there to look at? If I hadn't withdrawn to deal with Athena, do you really think you'd have a chance with her, you bunch of weaklings?"

He pounded his chest confidently and said, "Right now, at least you all still have a chance to marry Aphrodite, and I'm the one who gave you that chance. You should be thanking me, but instead, you're angry at me? Is that fair?"

After hearing Ares' words, the surrounding gods looked at each other, and even though his words were a bit harsh, they realized he might actually have a point.

As a result, some of the gods who had originally planned to stand up for Aphrodite, driven by her beauty and powers, began to regain their composure. Some even secretly found themselves grateful to Ares.

Regardless of the situation, as the son of Zeus, Ares was one of Mount Olympus's highest-ranking, handsome, and wealthiest gods.

If he made such a vow as the God of Virgins, even if these male gods couldn't marry Aphrodite, they would at least have one less strong competitor when pursuing other goddesses in the future.

Seeing that Ares had easily sent them all away, Aphrodite angrily bit her lip, then looked at Zeus with a sad, pleading expression, "Zeus, do I really have to choose a husband today?"

Zeus felt his heart soften when he saw Aphrodite's pitiful look, and his attitude shifted, "You don't have to choose, but your divine authority are too unique, Aphrodite. If you don't want to choose a husband, then you'll have to do what Athena and Ares did—make a vow to stay a virgin. Of course, you don't need to vow to the world, just vow on my thunder."

In that case, if Zeus wanted to break the rules himself, it wouldn't be impossible.

Zeus had his own plan, but she clearly didn't have the same strong determination as Athena or Ares.

Moreover, Aphrodite's divine authority were inherently tied to pleasure and love, so it was impossible for her to completely avoid romantic and sexual relationships between men and women.

However, with her current perspective, she could only consider the other Olympian gods as potential partners.

The only remaining options among the Twelve Olympians were Hephaestus, the ugly god of fire, and Hades, the somewhat gloomy lord of the underworld.

Just as Aphrodite was torn between the two options, she suddenly heard Artemis's voice echoing in her ears: "Zeus, is what you just said true?"

The gods turned their gaze toward the source of the voice, and there, standing in front of Zeus, was Artemis in her moon-white gown and with her silvery-white hair, alongside the beautiful and dignified Hestia, the goddess of the hearth.

"Artemis, Hestia, what is the meaning of this?"

Zeus asked, looking somewhat confused at the two goddesses before him.

The two beautiful goddesses exchanged a brief smile, and then Hestia softly spoke to Zeus.

"We've been actually worried by this issue for some time as well. After hearing Athena and Ares's vows, Artemis and I think this is a good solution. So, Zeus, let Artemis and me vow to your thunder. We, too, will become virgin goddesses."
