Chapter 4: Info Dump
"Okay let's get into it, first thing you need to know is about the Cullens, we have a treaty with them, and while I don't like it, I can't deny that it was useful. Later I'll show you where our borders are, but for now, what you need to know is that Cullens are known to only suck the blood of animals which gives them their golden eyes, as opposed to vamps who partake in humans that have red eyes for whatever reason, maybe something to do with their natural state and the Cullens feeding on animals is going against it, I'm unsure if this makes them weaker or not, it'd make sense though, yellow usually signifies sickness," said Dean, mumbling the last part in thought.
"So, if you see a Vamp with golden eyes, there's a good chance it's a Cullen or Cullen-like, though you shouldn't drop your guard regardless, as for red eye vamps, kill them with extreme prejudice," said Dean.
"Other important info, is that not all vamps are created equal, while we will on average be stronger and faster than them in wolf form, there are exceptions. Some vamps are known to have gifts, like superpowers, and while they can't directly affect us, if let's say a vamp can move things with his mind, he can't move us, but he can still shoot rocks at us," said Dean.
"Are you with me so far?" asked Dean.
"Yeah, I think, golden eyes possible treaty, red eyes kill on sight, watch out for superpowers," said Sam morosely.
"Now while our wolf forms on average are stronger and faster than them, our human forms are not, be very careful while human around them. The spirits may have made us stronger humans, but we still aren't a match for them as humans. The extra strength is supposed to help us survive long enough to phase and nothing more, don't try and take on a vamp as a human period," said Dean.
"How do you know all this? Have you tried to take one on as a human?" questioned Sam.
A gloomy expression falls on Dean's face, "Let's just say I learned a lot growing up, one must know one's enemy, I believe is the all-important phrase or something like that. Though, I will say it's not fun learning about things while fighting, never underestimate your foe. When I was younger and dumber I went after this one squid vamp who released this inky cloud that blinded and gagged me, I was literally choking on the stuff. It managed to break a few of my ribs and a couple of legs before I was able to pinpoint its direction through sound and get a bite in, it was the closest I ever came to death."
"We may heal fast, but that was a rough time for me," said Dean.
"Is that it then? Is my life officially over, stuck here protecting our borders?" Sam bemoaned.
"Your life isn't over, I mean sure you're kind of stuck here, for now. It'd be too dangerous to walk out in the world alone. A lone wolf wouldn't last very long in the wider world, amongst all those vamps out there. And while their noses aren't as good as ours, they can still sniff us out as we can them. And vampires have made it a goal to wipe out all other supernaturals, eliminating any and all competition," said Dean.
"That's just great," says Sam sarcastically.
"Anyways, I think that's about it, there's an emergency council meeting tomorrow, be there," said Dean getting to his feet.
"Okay, wait, so can I tell Emily?" asked Sam.
"Tell her, don't tell her, I don't care," said Dean.
"Does Leah know?" asked Sam.
"Of course," said Dean eager to leave.
Dean paused facepalming, "I can't believe I almost forgot to tell you how to kill them. Pretty self-explanatory, we tear them apart with our teeth and claws if necessary, but if you want them to stay dead, you have to drag their corpses out into direct sunlight, cloudy or not, the venom will ignite turning them to ash. The brighter the sun the faster they burn. At night, it's best to carry the head away and bury it elsewhere until you can get a match or something, their venom blood is extremely flammable."
"So they can't go out into the sun?" asked Sam.
"No, unfortunately, they can, fun fact though, they sparkle in direct sunlight due to their skin reflecting it to protect their venom blood. The reason the Cullens moved here is because of the constant cloud forecast we have around these parts, it allows them to walk in the day without sparkling due to the low sunlight," said Dean
"They sparkle?" said a befuddled Sam.
"Yeah, anyways, I'll let you stew on that for a bit, come find me if you have any more questions, remember to practice controlling your strength, and council meeting tomorrow, we'll talk again soon," said Dean walking away.
"And be careful who you touch from now on if you don't want to be answering any unnecessary questions, our bodies run hotter than normal," said Dean right before shifting.
Sam sat there the rest of the night thinking through everything. Deciding to ultimately hold off on making any big decisions until he spoke with the council.
Dean on the other hand went home unhappy having to waste most of the day with a naked dude rather than his girlfriend.
...
The next day, Dean went to Leah's.
Sue opened the door with a smile, "Morning Dean, come on in, I don't think Leah's up yet."
"That's fine, let her sleep, I'd much rather hang out with you," Dean grinned.
"O you," she laughed, "Can I get you anything?"
"I wouldn't want to impose," said Dean halfheartedly.
"Stop it, you're practically family, come on I'll whip you up some eggs, Harry's out for the day getting ready for the council meeting," said Sue heading to the kitchen.
Finding Seth already eating cereal, "How's it going little man?" he greeted him with the synchronized handshake he taught him.
Seth grinned, "Hey Dean, Leah's still sleeping."
"Good, it'll give us more time to game," said Dean.
"Really? I'll go set it up," Seth took off excitedly.
"Finish your breakfast first," Sue called out to deaf ears, shaking her head, "Boys."
Leah woke to boisterous laughter of what could only be her boyfriend and her little brother.
"Feel my wrath! Muhahaha,"
"Nooo, you'll never defeat me!"
She checks the time and groans, freshening up before heading out to find them both playing one of their fighting games.
"Morning Dean," she says giving him a peck on the cheek only to be ignored.
"Morning, oh ho ho, I got you now," said Dean barely responding to her as he concentrated on the game.
"Tch, you'll have to try harder than that," said Seth mashing buttons.
Rolling her eyes, Leah went to grab a bowl of cereal and quietly watched, letting them have their moment.
Minutes later when she was finally growing bored, Dean ended it, "It's been fun little man, but I should hang out with your sister a bit before the meeting."
"Fine, maybe afterward we can play some more?" A hopeful Seth asked.
"We'll see," said Dean passively.
"About time, are you sure you aren't more interested in playing with my brother?" asked Leah with mock jealousy as they left the house.
Dean grinned pulling her close, "Fake jealousy doesn't suit you, tell me you would be fine with a guy who didn't like your brother."
She wrapped her hands around his neck, "While it's adorable how well you two get along don't for a second think my jealousies fake," she said giving him a peck, "I want you all to myself."
"You have me," said Dean kissing her passionately.
"It just never seems like enough time, and now you have the meeting to go to," said Leah sadly.
"Don't worry we'll make time, I'll make time, just be patient with me," said Dean grabbing her ass and kissing her again.
"Why did you sleep so late?" asked Dean.
"Emily kept me up late worried about Sam, and wasn't happy when she couldn't see him today, er yesterday," said Leah.
"Took a while for him to change back and explain things, he handled it alright, didn't freak out or anything, and he'll be coming to the council meeting so that'll help as well," said Dean.
"You better go then, wouldn't want to be late, my dad doesn't need any more reasons to dislike you," Leah joked.
Dean snorted, "I'll see after," he kissed her goodbye.
...
Once the meeting was over, he met back up with Leah at their campfire.
"How was the council meeting?" asked Leah.
"Fine I guess, they weren't happy with how I handled Sam's introduction, and there was more complaining about the dogs scaring game away, though that won't be much of a problem now that the Cullens are back wiping out wildlife," Dean snorted.
"Right, they drink animal blood, why can't we just take the meat once they're done with it?" asked Leah.
"Their venom poisons it, we wouldn't be able to use it, bastards don't even care how much they waste with their diet," said Dean.
"Well, it's still better than humans, isn't it?" asked Leah.
"That's debatable, there's plenty of terrible people in the world, why can't they feast on them?" asked Dean.
"Because we would never be able to trust them then, they would have red eyes like all the rest of the human drinkers," Leah pointed out.
"True, it's not like we could always verify what they're doing is right," Dean conceded.
"Anything else happen?" asked Leah.
Dean took on a melancholy look, "The council emphasized to Sam and me about the importance of Secrecy, and brought up some good points, and while I agree for the most part, I still don't like it. When I took the time to think about it, I realized that if our secret got out past the tribe due to a slip or something, then we'd be fucked. Doesn't matter how strong we are, we couldn't protect everyone if they came in great enough numbers, and that kind of scares me, I don't like that at all, why should we be the only ones afraid?"
"Not to mention those of our blood that leave and settle elsewhere, what happens to them?" asked Dean.
"I don't know but It'll be okay Dean," said Leah not knowing what else to say having never seen him like this before, trying to stay strong for him despite how hard the words hit her.
"Maybe, anyways, they want it kept secret and Sam is taking it all way too seriously, I'm doubtful he'll tell Emily at this point," said Dean.
"O he'll tell her or so help me if he hurts her I'll tear his ass a new one and then do it myself," said Leah with righteous fury.
Dean chuckled, "I know you will babe."
