Chapter 5 Roasted Sweet Potatoes
Mao Xi understood that Ke's promise to borrow cattle next month was just a delaying tactic because of the neighbor's face.
But the news that she had scissors in her hand has reached her second uncle's ears. She will go to the grocery store tomorrow to get the cattle back.
Before going to bed, Mao Xi stewed a pear in sugar water and gave it to Mrs. Chen: "Mom, the pear water in sugar can relieve cough. Drinking it will make your throat feel better."
"Cough...cough!" Mrs. Chen coughed a few times and took the sugar water. "You should rest early. You have to go up the mountain tomorrow morning."
Mao Xi returned to her room, entered the space, took sweet potatoes and eggs and placed them in a secret corner of the kitchen.
"I'll make steamed egg custard and sweet potato porridge for everyone tomorrow morning."
She picked out the big sweet potatoes and prepared the small ones for planting in the field.
The plan for a day is in the morning!
Before five o'clock in the morning, Mao Xi got up and burned the firewood first. When the charcoal burned red, he took the firewood away.
Xiaodouzi helped wash the sweet potatoes: "Sister, what kind of melon is this? Why haven't I seen it before?"
"These are sweet potatoes, also called sweet potatoes. I dug them in the mountains a few days ago." Mao Xi lied.
Except for those reserved for sweet potato porridge, half of the remaining sweet potatoes were thrown into the pile of red charcoal, and the other half was put into a large pot on the red charcoal, covered with a lid and roasted without adding water.
I expect that the roasted sweet potatoes will be ripe when I come back from the mountain, and I will take them to Lihua Town for a stall.
After tidying up the kitchen, Mao Xi took Xiaodouzi up the mountain again, followed by Muyuan Saber.
After climbing over the sunny slope covered with myrtles, we came to a familiar creek and once again saw the local dog Dahuang sitting on the other side of the creek, wagging his tail obediently.
Knowing that Rhubarb likes to eat wild fruits, Mao Xi grabbed a handful of freshly picked myrtle and fed it to the native dog Rhubarb on the ground.
After eating the wild fruits, Dahuang ran from the back to the front of the team and led the team to climb the unopened mountain road.
Along the way, she did not cut grass to clear the road.
If this trail is discovered by others, it will be equivalent to cutting off one's own small way of making money.
Before fully achieving self-sufficiency, relying on others is currently the only way that Shu Xi can think of to make money quickly.
Muyuan walked at the end of the team and was very vigilant all the way. Not only was he worried about the infestation of snakes and insects, he was also afraid that there would be bandits and thieves here.
Two quarters of an hour later, we arrived at the previous growth point of bamboo fungus.
Muyuan followed Miao Xi's example and helped with the picking, filling two full baskets.
“We cover it with leaves and come back after the next rain.”
"Woof~ woof woof..." Dahuang barked at Miaoxi twice before walking deeper into the dense forest.
"Sister, where is Dahuang taking us?" Xiaodouzi grabbed Mao Xi's hand.
"The forest is deeper ahead, you follow me." Muyuan walked to the front of the team.
After climbing two slopes, we found a new place where wild fungi grow.
There are red mushrooms growing beside some old trees.
Russula is more precious than bamboo fungus!
Before traveling through time, Mao Xi only ate it when she went back to her hometown to celebrate the New Year. Her mother stewed chicken with red mushrooms, and the taste was extremely fresh and sweet.
After filling another basket with red mushrooms, Mao Xi planned to go down the mountain.
"Ah Shu, what do you think this is?"
Muyuan saw a red ginseng flower in the grass.
"It's wild ginseng!" Ah Shu was overjoyed and carefully uprooted it.
"That's great. Sister, I can sell this for a lot of copper coins!"
"I'm going home to replenish my mother's health. Xiaodouzi, don't tell me about the wild ginseng I dug, you know?" Mao Xi told Xiaodouzi.
Noticing that there seemed to be snakes scurrying about in the grass, Muyuan said vigilantly:
"Ah Shu, there is a legend about the place where ginseng grows, and there will be a 'ginseng guarding snake'. Let's go down the mountain quickly."
The group covered the growing point of the red mushrooms with fallen leaves and prepared to go down the mountain. Rhubarb also ran to the front of the group and led the way again.
Returning to the creek at the entrance of the jungle, Dahuang stood by the river and stopped moving forward.
After seeing them go away, the local dog Dahuang turned around again and entered the dense forest.
On the way down the mountain, Mao Xi picked some wild vegetables and milk mushrooms along the way, filled the baskets of the three of them, and then returned home satisfied.
Back home, Aniang was already preparing breakfast.
She cut the sweet potatoes and was wondering what to do with an ingredient she had never seen before.
The hidden eggs were also used by Chen to make steamed custard.
"Mom, where are the sweet potatoes in the pot?" Mao Xi opened the lid of the pot and took out the steamed eggs.
"I took it out for you, and the red charcoal ones are all in the basin."
Taking over the work from Chen, Mao Xi put the cut sweet potatoes into the porridge.
I washed some wild vegetables and cream mushrooms, cut pork belly, and fried two plates of vegetables.
Coming down from the mountain, everyone had a great appetite.
After the meal, Xiaodouzi was responsible for washing the dishes and frying the medicine.
Mao Xi brought the small pieces of sweet potatoes left in advance, and Mu Yuan took the hoe and accompanied Mao Xi to the fields to plant vegetables and water them.
The paddy fields in the fields have not been plowed again and are in ruins.
The mustard greens in the vegetable field are still growing.
After planting the sweet potatoes and watering them, Muyuan and Mao Xi went to the well to fetch water and went home.
"Brother Mu, your shoulder injury hasn't healed yet. I'll pick up the water."
"Be careful." Mu Yuan had to admire that at such a young age, Shu Xi could carry two large buckets of water.
"You recover from your injuries first and then make plans. My brother and I will go to Lihua Town later."
Mao Xi wrapped up the roasted sweet potatoes and red mushrooms, thinking about how to make the sweet potatoes at the stall more popular.
I saw the baking baskets and red charcoal placed in the farm tools warehouse.
"Have it!"
.
Beside the Guanyun Bridge in Lihua Town, Mao Xi and Xiaodouzi skillfully set up a stall.
After placing the red mushrooms, she took out the three prepared stones and simply built a small stove.
Pour the red charcoal from the bamboo baking basket into the stove and place an iron basin on top. Mao Xi puts the two kinds of sweet potatoes roasted in the morning into the basin.
With the help of the charcoal fire temperature, the roasted sweet potatoes are full of charred aroma.
"Roasted sweet potatoes! Warm roasted sweet potatoes~!"
As soon as he started shouting, a group of people quickly gathered around the stall.
"Girl, what are you selling roasted sweet potatoes that smell so delicious?"
Mao Xi broke open a piece of sweet potato, revealing the orange-red flesh: "Smell it, it's a sweet potato, and it tastes similar to taro."
The porter was salivating: "How do you sell this?"
"Sold by the piece, 3 cents each."
"Give me one." The porter gritted his teeth and paid 3 Wen.
Everyone looked at the porter eating sweet potatoes, their faces full of ecstasy with the sweetness in their mouths, and they rushed to buy them.
"Girl, I want two!"
"Seller's wife, give me three!"
After a rush, the 20 roasted sweet potatoes were quickly sold out, and Mao Xi earned 60 yuan.
"Ding~" The Universal Mall appeared in front of Shu Xi again.
*** Mall L1<Upgrading>***
Mao Xi tried the operation and found that the mall being upgraded could be traded.
She bought another 5 pounds of sweet potatoes and quietly put them behind her.
After the crowd dispersed, she took 5 sweet potatoes and put them in the charcoal.
"Sister, do you still have sweet potatoes?" Xiaodouzi on the side was puzzled.
Mao Xi hooked the tip of Xiaodouzi's nose with her index finger: "Sister, I hid it because I was afraid that you, a greedy little cat, would eat it secretly."
Brother Ying, the neighbor who set up the stall together, licked his greedy lips and held two crisp pears in his hand: "Sister Ah Shu, I'll trade the crisp pears for you for roasted sweet potatoes!"
"When this batch is baked, I'll give you one to eat."
Mao Xi used a branch to turn the sweet potatoes, spread the red charcoal with a fan, and added a few sticks of wood.
"Xiaodouzi, the fire for roasting sweet potatoes should not be too high. You can watch the stall first while I go to do some errands. You can sell the red mushrooms at 40 cents per catty."
Taking the branch from Mao Xi's hand, Xiaodouzi also coveted the roasted sweet potatoes: "Sister, go ahead, I'm watching over here~"
