Chapter 15: Chapter 15: Is Griffin's Evacuation Always Like This?
As the cannon roared, a series of explosions came directly from the G&K base!
Following the cannon attack, the ammunition on the weapon racks began to tilt without hesitation!
Before BM59 and Simonov could figure out what was happening, Reno frowned and pulled them back into the hall.
This didn't seem like a helicopter for evacuation, and doesn't Griffin have almost no access to heavy firepower?
What else could this series of more than thirty rocket launchers be if its not heavy firepower?
Before the roar of gunfire subsided, the helicopter's door opened, and five individuals in full protective gear and exoskeletons immediately began rappelling down.
These individuals moved swiftly, with a series of actions taking no more than a minute. After checking the Griffin base, they headed straight towards the mayor's mansion.
"Get to the basement!" Reno waved to the humanoid figures behind him. Although there were many people on his side, only M1 Garand and Jaeger were combat-ready.
In such a narrow combat environment like the mansion, the two rifle-type Dolls were clearly at a disadvantage compared to the soldiers on the opposite side carrying assault rifles and submachine guns.
IOP's tactical dolls were never touted for their combat capabilities surpassing humans. Initially, Tactical Dolls were simply equipped with guns.
Even with some modifications and upgrades in firepower, their combat effectiveness remained mediocre. Otherwise, why would there be a need for subsequent weapon
Imprinting technology?
Selling tactical dolls was primarily aimed at reducing human soldier casualties. However, IOP wasn't interested in these inferior tactical dolls converted from autonomous ones.
Their combat effectiveness was just too low. The only advantage was perhaps their affordability.
"Hold this and go downstairs to contact Helian for me. Ask her if this is Griffin's unique evacuation method?" Reno handed the communication device to BM59, who didn't have any weapons, then rushed downstairs.
"Um, Mr. Reno, let me..." M1 Garand grabbed her rifle, intending to stay upstairs and assess the situation. But before she could finish her sentence, Jaeger, at Reno's signal, dragged her away.
Whether she was present or not made no difference. Each of the soldiers opposite them was heavily armed, and he had no doubt about the bulletproof capabilities of their equipment.
Unless M1 Garand could shoot eight bullets per second, hitting every weak point in their fully covered helmets, firing suddenly would only kill one soldier, and she would be riddled with bullets in return.
Except for a few load-bearing pillars, there were no proper coverings in the hall, just wooden display cabinets that would become transparent with a single shot.
There was only one pillar near the entrance to the basement. He couldn't possibly ask two Tactical dolls to stand behind a pillar that could only accommodate one person.
"Behind the pillar!"
A clear and decisive shout disappointed Reno as he waited behind the pillar. He had hoped these guys would say something to let him come out, allowing for some form of communication. The recent attack was probably just because they saw the infected corpses or something...
Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. He could now be sure that these guys had come to kill him and the dolls.
Clang clang!
Just as his thoughts turned halfway, the clanging sound of objects landing on the floor echoed at the same time as the words from the opposite side.
Damn it!
Stun grenades and hand grenades—four or five of them—landed behind the support pillar, right in front of Reno!
The soldiers who threw the grenades immediately took cover behind the load-bearing pillars, waiting for Reno to be blown to pieces.
But before the explosions could occur, a deep gray figure seemed to defy the laws of physics, suddenly leaping upward. Then, with a somersault, it entered the mansion's second-floor corridor.
Boom!
"On the second floor! That guy's on the second floor!"
"What's going on? Is the life form detector malfunctioning? Has that guy turned into an infected?"
"Shut up! Have the driver check that guy's position from outside. He disappeared from the life form detector."
"How is that possible..."
As the soldiers spoke, they began to move towards the stairs leading to the second floor. However, before they could show themselves, three gunshots rang out in quick succession from outside!
Bang bang! Boom!
"What's happening? Pilot?"
"Ah! Scared me! That guy's attacking me, but it's okay. It's just a single-shot bullet. It won't penetrate my armor. But the glass on this side broke, and visibility is poor. I need to find a place to land."
The driver looked angrily at the cracked glass in front of him. Although the two single-shot bullets that had bounced off the bulletproof glass didn't penetrate it, they left cracks all over it. The cockpit above him was intact, so his vision wasn't affected.
Unfortunately, there was only one pilot for this mission, and there should have been an autonomous doll for assist.
Having made up his mind to land and change seats, the driver flew towards the landing spot he had previously observed. It was only a short distance away, just a dozen or so meters. By the time he finished speaking, the helicopter's landing gear had already touched the ground.
"What!? Don't land! Don't land! That person is heading towards you!"
As soon as the squad leader, who had just climbed the stairs, came up, he saw a gray figure holding something jumping out of the open window! That direction! There was no doubt that it was towards the helicopter that had just landed!
"What... Ah! Uh... Aaaah!"
Before he could finish his sentence, the driver's screams echoed through the communicator.
Several soldiers rushed to the open window, looking towards the direction of the helicopter.
The rotor of the helicopter was still slowly rotating, but in the position of the helicopter cabin, a medieval knight's spear had already pierced through the sturdy bulletproof glass, directly penetrating the driver's neck!
The interior of the cabin was almost completely stained red...
What the hell was that thing!?
