Transmigration: The Peerless Immortal Husband

Chapter 31 - Clarifying the Relationship

Seeing that Gu Yao had been sent back, Chi Changye thanked the Tian family guards and then turned to Gu Yao, asking, “I came out and found you missing. What happened?”

He wasn’t trying to control Gu Yao; he was genuinely concerned that the Gu family and Lu family, who had been targeting them, might seize the opportunity to strike in the dark. The rules on the surface only applied to ordinary cultivators.

Gu Yao scratched his head and gave a dry laugh. “I just made an itching agent and was looking for a test subject. And then… well, I ran into the twin siblings, Gu Xing and Gu Chen. They came right to me, so I didn’t hold back. The fireball talisman was just a cover,” he said. “I used it on Gu Xing.”

Chi Changye chuckled, not expecting Gu Yao to have such a childish side. But then he thought to himself, Gu Yao is indeed still young.

Gu Yao quickly assured him, “I’ll be more careful next time, and I’ll make sure to call you along.”

Gu Yao knew that Chi Changye was looking out for him and didn’t feel that Chi Changye was being overbearing.

Gu Family

Gu Chen didn’t dare to use the front door. He carried Gu Xing through the side door back to their second branch. Gu Xing’s miserable appearance made Gu Zhiming’s heart ache, and he immediately cursed Gu Yao for causing all this trouble.

Gu Chen resented his grandfather for favoring the first branch, punishing his mother and their branch, which made it impossible for his father to intervene and help him secure a place in the Changxian Sect. He also resented his father for being too weak, always listening to his grandfather, which had put their branch in such a passive position. Now, their branch had been bullied to this extent, and his father could only curse in his own courtyard.

“Father, Gu Yao is the eldest brother, and I shouldn’t speak ill of him, but look at how he treated Gu Xing so ruthlessly. He doesn’t even respect you! Last time, in front of so many people, he called you by your name and even said… Eldest brother mentioned Aunt’s matter…” The last part of the sentence trailed off weakly. Gu Zhiming instantly became furious, regretting ever letting this wretched child out!

“Itchy, I’m so itchy, Father, Mother, I’m dying from the itching…”

The father and son had left Gu Xing alone in the room with servants attending to her, but suddenly a scream came from inside. The two exchanged a glance before rushing back into the room. The maidservant who was attending to Gu Xing was struggling to hold Gu Xing’s hands to stop her from scratching her skin, but Gu Xing couldn’t stand the itching and kept grabbing and kicking at the maidservant. One of the maids was kicked to the ground and, being an ordinary person, was immediately sent coughing up blood.

“Get out, you! Quickly, bring a basin of water!” Seeing his daughter’s condition, Gu Zhiming’s heart ached even more. As for the maidservant, he didn’t care about her life at all, and even found her presence irritating.

The maid, enduring the pain, scrambled to get out, rolling and crawling, terrified that she might get kicked again. If she were too slow, she feared she might not even survive.

Gu Zhiming had average cultivation talent, and the Gu family’s alchemy skills weren’t impressive, but they still had some commonly used pills. He quickly pulled out a pill and dissolved it into the water that had just been brought in, ordering the maidservant to hurry and wipe down Gu Xing’s body. He then led Gu Chen to retreat behind a screen, occasionally asking about the situation.

Hearing Gu Xing’s miserable screams, Gu Chen gritted his teeth and said, “It must be Gu Yao’s doing! He must have used the itching medicine while Sister wasn’t paying attention. Otherwise, how could we have gone out just fine and returned like this?”

“This little bastard!” Gu Zhiming was equally furious and kicked over a chair by his feet. If Gu Yao were in front of him right now, he probably would have stabbed him right through with a sword.

After a whole day and night, Gu Xing’s condition finally improved. Using the medicine-dissolved water to wipe her down and taking detoxifying pills internally was effective, but even so, after a full day and night, Gu Xing’s body and face were covered with deep scratches, blood seeping from them. Inside the room, Gu Xing smashed every mirror and object she could get her hands on, constantly screaming, “Gu Yao, you bastard, go die! I will kill that bastard Gu Yao!”

Despite being ordered not to spread news of the situation in the second branch, both the first and third branches had heard about it. When Gu Yan heard the report from his attendant, he coldly spat out two words: “Foolish!”

It was clearly self-inflicted suffering, and he felt no sympathy at all.

The concubine-born daughters of the Gu family were secretly pleased. It would be best if Gu Xing ruined her appearance. Taking advantage of her legitimate status, Gu Xing had always treated them harshly, ordering them around as if they were maids. Now, she had suffered a great setback at the hands of Gu Yao, someone they all looked down on.

“Father, you must avenge me! I want Gu Yao to have a terrible death!”

Gu Zhiming, hearing his precious daughter’s cries from outside, immediately began comforting her, “Don’t worry, Father will bring that little bastard back to apologize to you, Xing’er. Don’t worry, I’ll get you some good pills.”

“Father, you must keep your word, or… Xing’er would rather stay in confinement with Mother!” Gu Xing made a threatening remark. She had originally wanted to say she would no longer acknowledge this father, but fearing it might backfire and anger Gu Zhiming, she changed her words at the last moment.

“Of course, Father will keep his word. I’ll go find that little bastard right now.” Gu Zhiming was heartbroken, blaming everything on Gu Yao. If only he had known… if only he had known earlier, he should have strangled that little bastard when he had the chance! Full of rage, Gu Zhiming stormed out.

“Alright, sister, Father has gone to deal with Gu Yao. You should rest a bit; your face can be healed.” After Gu Zhiming left, Gu Chen quietly comforted his sister from outside the door.

“I want to tear his flesh and drink his blood!” Gu Xing growled viciously inside the room. The moment she touched the scars on her face and body, she couldn’t stop herself from screaming.

“I’ll think of a way to help you, sister.”

Gu Chen’s words were more soothing than Gu Zhiming’s, and sure enough, Gu Xing’s emotions calmed down considerably.

As soon as Gu Zhiming left the Gu residence, the head of the Gu family immediately received the news. “The second one isn’t completely stupid; at least he knows to bring guards instead of rushing into the Tian family’s territory alone. Fine, let him cause a scene.”

Gu Zhiming’s actions were more justified than others causing a ruckus. Even though he had once mistreated Gu Yao, he was still Gu Yao’s biological father. If Gu Yao dared to defy him, that would be a huge act of filial disrespect.

The second son always accused him of favoritism, but in fact, he had initially favored the second son. The eldest son’s talent and cultivation level were always higher than the second son’s. It was clear the position of the family head would eventually go to the eldest, so he had tried to find external support for the second son. The marriage had some of his own calculations, but if the second son had such a brother-in-law, even the eldest wouldn’t dare treat him unfairly in the future. But who would have thought that while the second son had agreed to the marriage on the surface, he was unwilling in his heart?

It was one thing for Feng Shi to die, as she had supposedly died to save the second son. So, even though he didn’t like Gu Yao, could the Gu family really not afford to feed him? But the second son had completely shifted his resentment toward Gu Yao, blaming him for both Feng Shi’s death and the marriage, and then married a woman from a poor family, which did nothing for his position in the Gu family. Even the third son knew that marrying a woman from an appropriate background was important. If that woman was taken in as a concubine, that would have been a fair enough arrangement.

The second son… The head of the Gu family sighed inwardly. This temperament of his was probably impossible to change. He only hoped that Gu Chen could show some promise and give the second son something to rely on in the future.

Gu Zhiming, accompanied by five or six guards, stormed toward the small courtyard where Gu Yao was, glaring at the yard in anger. He waved his hand and ordered, “Smash the door open!”

The guards moved to obey, but suddenly, a cultivator wearing the Tian family’s guard uniform stepped forward. “Does the second master really intend to act?”

“Am I not allowed to?” Gu Zhiming narrowed his eyes, displeased.

The Tian family guard was not upset but explained, “This courtyard belongs to our second young master. If the second master wants to take action, should you not first consult with our second young master?”

The guard had a deep sense of disdain for Gu Zhiming. Everyone in town knew that this man was heartless and incompetent to the extreme. If it hadn’t been for his fortunate birth into the Gu family, this kind of man would have long been chewed up and left with nothing but bones in the outside world.

Gu Zhiming was momentarily stumped. If it were someone else’s house, he would have smashed the door without hesitation, but this was the second young master’s property of the Tian family. If that young man truly acted out, even he wouldn’t be able to handle it.

In his mind, Gu Zhiming added another charge against Gu Yao and pointed at the guard, saying, “Go knock on the door and have that little beast, Gu Yao, come out and meet me!”

The Tian family guard couldn’t stop him, so he simply stood to the side with his arms crossed, watching. He looked down on Gu Zhiming even more, thinking to himself, if you had any ambition, you’d smash the door and go all the way; why are you giving in so quickly?

Before the guard could knock, the door was opened from the inside. Chi Changye and Gu Yao were standing there. Gu Yao cupped his hands toward the Tian family guard outside and said, “Thank you, Brother Guard.”

“Not at all, Young Master Gu Yao, Young Master Chi. You two are our second young master’s esteemed guests. The second young master specifically instructed us to take good care of you,” the Tian family guard replied with a smile.

Gu Zhiming almost spat blood upon hearing this, pointing angrily at Gu Yao and shouting, “You little beast, why aren’t you kneeling and apologizing?”

Only then did Gu Yao turn his gaze to Gu Zhiming. That day at the Gu family, he hadn’t paid much attention to this man. To be honest, Gu Zhiming still had a good appearance, or else the original body’s mother wouldn’t have been attracted to him and insisted on marrying him. Unfortunately, while this man had a handsome exterior, inside he was empty.

“Gu Zhiming, if you have something to say, then say it. If there’s nothing important, I’ll excuse myself. Don’t try to use that same old trick to pressure me. You didn’t treat me, Gu Yao, as your son, so I’ll return the favor and treat you the same way,” Gu Yao said with a cold smile. The original body had already given up its life for the Gu family, so there was nothing more he owed them. As for him, he had severed all ties with the Gu family by using a Changxian Gate token. If there was any debt left, it was to the original body, the deceased Feng Shi, and that uncle.

“You…” Gu Zhiming’s eyes turned red with fury, almost as if he wanted to strangle the little beast in front of him. But just at that moment, many people had gathered to watch. When he noticed them pointing and whispering, Gu Zhiming, who was always concerned about face, had no choice but to swallow the words that were about to come out of his mouth. He then changed his tone and said, “Let us in. I have something to say to you!”

Chi Changye glanced at Gu Yao, who shook his head. “Ever since I handed over the Changxian Gate token, I haven’t felt that there’s anything left to discuss with the Gu family. That Changxian Gate token was exchanged for my freedom. Now, you can leave. As long as the Gu family doesn’t bother me, I won’t waste my time with them. You can pass this message to Gu Xing and Gu Chen.”

Seeing this, Chi Changye activated the formation, and a layer of spiritual light formed, separating the inside of the door from the outside.
