Chapter 24: Chapter 24

"We waited in the cafeteria until Shinichi arrived."

Ran also agreed; not only do normal people, but even police officers and forensics experts dislike seeing corpses. They only do it out of obligation due to their work.

Ran also wanted to go with them, but the kind Ran knew that if she left too, wouldn't Shinichi be left here all alone?

Oh, Shinichi is so pitiful!

"I'd better stay here," said Ran.

"Why are you going to stay here?" Sonoko grabbed her arm and pulled her along. "You can't help with anything here..."

"But..."

"Besides, look at Shinichi."

Sonoko pointed to Shinichi Kudo, who was still at the crime scene investigating, and said in a very dissatisfied tone, "He's completely focused on catching the culprit... And you know how Shinichi is; when he's solving a case, he even forgets to eat."

Sonoko clearly understood what Ran was thinking.

If Ran stayed, she would surely wait here in vain for Shinichi to solve the case, and no one knew when the case would be resolved.

Shinichi didn't care about Ran, but Sonoko did.

Therefore, Sonoko was not going to let Ran stupidly wait for Shinichi.

Ran understood Sonoko's intentions and, after a moment of silence, decided to leave with Sonoko, though she said, "Shouldn't we at least say something to Shinichi?"

Sonoko didn't let go of Ran's arm and said, "I'll go with you..."

However, when the two tried to enter the crime scene, they were stopped by the police officers maintaining the area. They didn't know Ran, so they followed the rules and said, "Unauthorized personnel cannot enter."

Ran said, "We're friends of Shinichi... the high school student. We just want to tell him something and then we'll leave."

The police officer hesitated for a moment, then shook his head firmly and still didn't allow them to enter.

What if he let unauthorized people in and then had his salary deducted? Would they pay him?

Ran wanted to say something else, but Sonoko pulled her away. "They're just doing their job according to the rules; don't make it hard for them... Don't you have Shinichi's phone number? Call him, and that's it."

Ran took out her phone, hesitated for a moment, and then decided to send a text message so as not to interrupt Shinichi's work. "I'd better send him a message... that way, I won't bother him. He'll read it when he has time."

After Ran finished sending the message, the three of them left the museum.

Before leaving, Lin Yi looked at Shinichi Kudo, who was still very focused on the case, smiled, and said, "Have fun."

...

Lost in the investigation of the case, Shinichi Kudo didn't notice the departure of the three. He was now searching for the clues left at the crime scene.

Once he could correctly assemble all these scattered pieces of evidence, he could reconstruct the crime scene, which would be very helpful in identifying the culprit and solving the case.

It's somewhat like putting together a puzzle, except Shinichi also had to investigate every suspicious detail to ensure he didn't miss any "puzzle pieces" that would prevent him from getting the right pattern.

It's so logical and strange!

The victim left a message saying "Kubota," but why was the tip of the pen found on the ground retracted?

Why did the murderer choose to kill the victim in a way that imitated the mural "Divine Punishment"?

Did they have a lot of grudges against each other?

The museum has security cameras; why did the murderer choose to commit the crime here? The museum is spacious, and there are many more appropriate places to do it.

...

Many questions arose in Shinichi's mind.

Shinichi knew that as long as he could solve these problems one by one, he wouldn't be far from the truth of this murder case!

After thinking so much, Shinichi felt a headache coming on. He stopped thinking for a moment to relax.

He looked at the crowd outside the crime scene and didn't see Ran or the others, which left him stunned for a moment.

He didn't know why, but Shinichi had a bad feeling.

So he left the crime scene and searched but found no trace of the three.

Shinichi was puzzled. He took out his phone to call Ran and realized he had received a text message from her.

It was a message from half an hour ago. When he opened the message, Shinichi's expression changed.

[Shinichi, Sonoko, Lin-kun, and I went to a nearby café to rest. When you find the culprit, come look for us.]

"Were... they going to have coffee?"

Shinichi's hand holding the phone trembled with anger.

He thought he would impress the new student, but he left! And he took Sonoko and Ran out for coffee? Who was he going to show it to now?

Thinking that he was exhausting himself solving the case while the new student was leisurely enjoying coffee with Ran and Sonoko, Shinichi felt a bitter taste of lemon.

"That despicable guy! He used such an unscrupulous trick!"

Needless to say, Shinichi knew that this was the new student's idea; Ran and Sonoko wouldn't do something like that by themselves.

"Hey, Kudo, we've already pulled up the surveillance video! Do you want to go watch it together?" Inspector Mōgure called out to Shinichi from a distance.

"Yes!"

Shinichi responded determinedly, stuffed his phone into his pocket in frustration, and quickly ran over to Inspector Megure. He had already decided to solve the case as quickly as possible and then hurry to the café.

Inside the café near the art museum.

Lin Yi was sitting across from Ran and Sonoko.

The table was already full of drinks and desserts. Ran took a sip of kiwi juice, rested her chin in her hand, and looked at the wall clock, murmuring, "I don't know when Shinichi will arrive..."

"Even though Shinichi is very capable, he's not Sherlock Holmes. How could he find the culprit so quickly?"

After waiting for half an hour, Sonoko was clearly impatient. They had planned to go shopping after visiting the museum, but now they had to wait for Shinichi in the café.

Shinichi is just a detective, not a police officer. Why does he have to get so involved at the crime scene? Does he think that without him, the police won't be able to solve the case?

Sonoko cursed at herself.

Lin Yi silently took a sip of coffee, agreeing with what Sonoko said: it was impossible for Shinichi to find the culprit that quickly.

Earlier, Lin Yi had bumped into Director Ochiai, and thanks to his skills, he had cleverly taken a pen from Ochiai's breast pocket.

As mentioned before, Lin Yi had studied the murder case at the museum several times.

He was well aware of the development of the case.

Eventually, Conan would catch Director Ochiai using this pen that couldn't write to force him to confess.
