Chapter 14: Chapter 13: Lady

I don't know what's wrong with my father. Thea feels that the answer is still in line with her intentions. After all, permutations and combinations are just a few issues. After thinking for a month, the answer should be perfect. As for her old man, why did he turn his head and run away? Maybe to show me a sense of mystery, right? I called home and asked them to come pick them up. Oh, and they took the two security guards who were sleeping on the floor. They'll have to replace them next time. With such poor quality, they might even save lives if they don't learn martial arts!

Thea didn't know that her words had caused at least a thousand wounds to her father. She ran away and took off her mask. Malcolm gasped, thinking back to the good times when she was young, and remembering how his late wife had hurt herself when she passed away. "On the phone, the tears flowed uncontrollably. In the beginning, I only knew how to make money and thought money could bring everything to me. If I had a wife like Thea, she wouldn't have left me."

He staggered back to an old Merlin house, locked himself in a room holding his wife's photo album, and stayed silent the whole night. The next morning, he asked the butler if he knew that Tommy still hadn't come home. By now, he didn't care anymore, he preferred to let it go for a while.

He grabbed a box from the bedroom safe and placed it in his arms. He got into the car and told the driver, "Go to the Queen Group." He didn't ask for directions to the group. After driving around a bit, he found Thea. Watching short videos every day, she was doing better than his own group. Everything was well done.

"Hi, Thea," Malcolm approached and greeted her gently.

Thea, who was immersed in writing a document at the table, didn't pay attention when she heard someone enter, thinking it was an administrative staff member. But she immediately realized that the voice was wrong and, when she looked up, she noticed that the middle-aged man in front of her was staring at her.

"You… why are you here?" Although they had met only the night before, she thought he wouldn't recognize her, so she had to pretend not to know him. This should be their first meeting after exposing her life that day, at least the first meeting with this identity.

"Can you have a coffee with me? I want to have a serious conversation with you," Malcolm said seriously.

Thea also wanted to talk to him to see if she could resolve the hatred she felt for the ghetto. Maybe she could work on it a bit more, without needing to meet Oliver. Brother and father are both close relatives.

She nodded, and they left the building, went to a café, and ordered two cups to begin a long conversation.

"Dear, you know, you are so much like my wife—so intelligent, young, and full of energy. It's curious to think that you were born for my wife and Tommy for Moira, isn't that right? She's here," Malcolm looked into Thea's eyes and said seriously.

Thea thought to herself: Just talking about it. It must be because of yesterday's words that she had some effect on him, making him feel that her figure and that of his late wife had a certain fusion, which could also be considered instinctive.

Originally, you didn't say that. In the original story, you said I was born a soldier. Listen, is that what a father can say to his daughter? It's very foolish, no wonder his wife died single.

"Can you tell me about her? I've only seen pictures of her with Tommy…" Doing what she liked must be the right thing. Anyway, Thea wasn't concerned about going back to work that day, and Moira had many eyes and ears. They should know the reason, and we have nothing more to do, it'll be the whole workday, and there aren't many cafés, so let's talk!

"We met on the train. She was…" Malcolm had never said these words since his wife passed away. It's rare to hear such things today, and he said it on their first meeting. When he stood up, he didn't say anything more. Don't think too much if there's any logical confusion in the main hall with the illegitimate daughter.

"Back then, she was running a free clinic in a slum and was attacked by a homeless man on her way to work. She didn't hate him for a few dollars! She fell into a puddle of blood and called me three times for help, but I was in a bad mood and didn't answer the calls. I planned to answer someday! I hate myself!" Malcolm said, banging his hand on the coffee table.

Obviously, this had been kept in his heart for a long time.

Thea now felt the same: was Tommy's mother a good person? She must have been a good person, but fate mocked her. If she had power, this wouldn't have happened. Thea was more and more certain that the path she had chosen was the right one. It is very hard for a woman to live in this chaotic world, and she needs her own strength to protect herself.

She patted Malcolm's hand. "She was so good, and I believe she would forgive you, Father…" In the end, her voice became as soft as a mosquito's buzz. But seeing him in so much pain, she still wanted to comfort him.

Malcolm was also shocked by the word. The euphoria on his face lasted a while and then faded, as he gently caressed Thea's hair. "Daughter, I know you feel sympathy for me, no matter what. You can admit it, I'm very happy. You don't have to recognize me as your father. You will always be Thea Queen. You have your family and your friends, everything that belongs to you. I will just support you in silence, behind the scenes. I will protect you, and I won't let anyone hurt you!"

This was exactly what Thea wanted. If she changed her last name to Merlin, the Queen Group wouldn't have inheritance rights. He would have to compete with Tommy for the property. That would be very problematic. Now, it's better to have two children and a family. An immoral agreement by the parents.

Malcolm grabbed a box and placed it in Thea's hands. "This is what I gave to my wife. Today, I'm giving it to you. I hope the light continues to guide us." After finishing, he stood up and left the café.

Thea opened the box and found a very delicate necklace. The silver chain had a light blue gemstone hanging from it. As the necklace swung, a soft lagoon light shimmered. There were some inscriptions inside the chain, and the word "Thea" was unfamiliar to her, seeming something modern?

The original plan to persuade Malcolm to leave the ghetto was gone, not even mentioning it. He seemed to have consciously avoided this problem. This is the knot in his heart, how could he clarify it?

Maybe I should ask Batman? His experience is also very similar to Malcolm's, except that his parents died when he was still a child, and his anger was abandoned during his final mental journey. Thinking about it, she quickly abandoned the idea. Batman is very smart and dark. He is a figure who claims to solve 90% of heroes and villains with intelligence and technological weapons. Yes, he protects even the righteous heroes. He has many secrets, so it's better to stay away from him.

Can I only be affectionate little by little? Six years ago, Malcolm, at this point, wasn't a great boss in Thea's heart but just a poor man avenging his deceased wife.
