Chapter 2: Ch-2 Despair
"Eren says he wants to join the Scout Regiment."
Mikasa spoke while eating, causing Carla Yeager to freeze in shock, her face filled with worry. Meanwhile, Grisha Yeager maintained an unreadable expression.
Eren's lips twitched. After seeing the Scout Regiment today, he had made up his mind—hell no to the outside world. He was a 21st-century boy; to him, home was heaven. It's just that there was no entertainment here.
"Mikasa, what—"
"Eren, what are you thinking?" Carla hurriedly approached him, placing her hands on his shoulders, her face filled with terror.
"Do you know how many have died outside the walls?"
"Yeah, I know."
"Eren—" Before he could say that he no longer had suicidal thoughts, his father called out to him.
"Why do you want to go out there?" Grisha asked with an unreadable expression that sent shivers down Eren's spine.
With the way his father looked at him, Eren was sure this man wasn't simple. After all, wasn't it a common trope that the protagonist's father turned out to be a big deal? A revolutionary leader, a Hokage, or maybe even a Shinigami Captain. (N/A: Damn, all the Big Three!)
With a determined face, as if he were walking to his death, he was about to say that he just wanted to live a carefree life like a sheep. (N/A: Lol, so much for freedom.)
"I see."
But it seemed his determined expression caused a misunderstanding.
"My boat's about to leave. I better get going." Grisha stood up to leave.
"Hold on, dear! Talk some sense into—"
And then his father said something about human curiosity, making Eren want to scream, "Damn it, even if I were a cat, I wouldn't die from curiosity!" (N/A: I read somewhere that all anime characters are actually cats.)
Then, Grisha pulled out a key and mentioned the basement he had been keeping secret.
That was the moment Eren knew—he was screwed. Or rather, he didn't even want to think about it anymore.
"Take care."
Waving his hand, Eren watched his father leave, his expression saying, 'I'll take care of everything, don't worry.'
Taking one last look at his father's back, he sighed.
'Oh, father… dear father, why did you have to raise a flag?'
Strangely, he didn't feel a deep attachment to his father—not because of his past memories, but simply because the bond wasn't strong.
"Just forget it."
"Eh? Forget?"
Carla looked at him, fear evident in her eyes. He didn't know what to say to erase the misunderstanding. He wasn't good at dealing with such things.
His past parents were kind of jerks—his mother ran away when he was young, and his father barely cared, always busy with work or fooling around with his girlfriend. Well… at least the guy was rich.
"It's a stupid idea."
With a somewhat irritated expression, he decided to deal with this situation later and ran off.
"Eren!"
Watching her son run away, Carla turned to Mikasa, placing her hands on her shoulders.
"Mikasa, he gets himself into trouble so easily. If anything ever happens… you need to be there for each other."
"Mn."
With a determined look, Mikasa nodded and quickly followed Eren.
----
In a corner of town, three boys surrounded a blonde-haired child.
"Stop that!"
Eren, who had run away, spotted his friend Armin being beaten. Even though he wasn't a fighting expert, he had lived for 26 years in total now—surely, that counted for something?
The boys saw Eren approach and prepared to beat him too. That was until they noticed a certain yandere standing behind him, her murderous aura practically suffocating them.
And so, they made the wisest decision.
They ran.
"Hmph! Cowards, they don't have any balls at all." Eren smirked proudly as he watched them flee in fear.
"No… it was Mikasa they saw—"
"Armin, you okay?" Eren approached, offering him a hand.
"No, I can get up on my own." Armin stood up by himself.
Eren looked at his friend—the weak, timid main character, who still somehow showed strength in his own way.
Ever since he regained his past memories, he felt like the Eren he knew—hot-headed, impulsive, and driven by justice—was slowly being replaced by a naive, ignorant boy who had yet to experience the true harshness of the world.
(N/A: It's because of his past life's influence, but that doesn't mean his personality from this life is gone. He's just confused right now.)

Riverbank, Shiganshina District
"I said humanity—"
Armin was explaining why the boys had attacked him.
Eren sighed. How stupid could these people be? How could someone not even speak the truth?
Even though he no longer had the courage to go outside after witnessing the Scout Regiment's fate—their lifeless bodies, that crying mother mourning her child—he still acknowledged the truth.
At some point, humanity would have to leave these walls.
And soon… something was about to happen. He could feel it.
Not to mention, his father had already raised the damn flag.
Then Armin started saying some wise words that sent chills down Eren's spine.
KRA-KOOM!
A deep rumble rolled through the clouds, shaking the earth below.
"Ouch! What was that?!"
The three of them turned to see people rushing toward the walls. Armin followed them, while Eren's expression twisted as a bad feeling arose within him.
'No way… The walls are 50 meters high… it can't be—'
Armin looked up at the massive wall.
"TITANS!"
Eren stared in horror at the Colossal Titan standing at 60 meters tall. Then, before he could react, it kicked a hole in Wall Maria.
Rock fragments rained down, destroying everything. Through the gaping hole, Titans started flooding in. Panic erupted as people ran for their lives.
Eren watched, his eyes widening as a terrifying sense of déjà vu hit him.
Then it clicked.
"M-My house is in that direction… Mo—!"
His legs trembled, but he forced himself to run. Mikasa followed right behind him.
'I'm the MC! Surely everything will be fine… Mom must be safe…'
But as he turned a corner, his heart sank.
A massive rock had crushed his house completely.
"MOM!"
Running up to the ruins, he found Carla trapped beneath the debris. Hurriedly, he tried to move the pillar crushing her, calling for Mikasa to grab the other side.
Meanwhile, the ground rumbled. Carla's face darkened.
"The Titans… They've gotten inside, haven't they?"
"Eren, take Mikasa and run away!"
"I DON'T WANT TO!" Eren screamed, his hands bleeding as he desperately tried to lift the rubble.
"Even if I get out… my legs are crushed. You understand that, right?"
Tears streamed down Eren's face. "I'LL CARRY YOU!"
"Why don't you listen, Eren? For the last time…" Carla turned to Mikasa, her own tears falling.
"NO!" Mikasa shouted.
Just then, Hannes arrived, panting as he ran toward them.
"Take them and run!" Carla pleaded.
"Aren't you underestimating me, Carla?" Hannes said with forced bravado. "Don't worry! I'm going to kill every single one of them!"
Eren felt hope rise in his heart. 'Surely everything will be fin—'
But then, just as Hannes charged at the Smiling Titan…
He stopped.
Terror consumed him.
Without a second thought, he grabbed Eren and Mikasa and ran.
"Thank you," Carla whispered with a soft smile.
"Eren! Mikasa! You have to survive!"
Eren struggled. "You coward! Mom's still—"
But then he saw it.
His mother.
Being eaten alive.
Despair comes when all hope is shattered.
And now, he felt it.
Hatred. Rage.
