Chapter 135: 114 – Plans (4)
Samael, being the owner of the building, also had an office at the LD headquarters. It wasn't as large as Miranda's office, as he felt there was no need for it to be that big, but it was his space nonetheless. He had a custom of maintaining a place in the locations he visited regularly, like this one here and the office in the slums compound, amoung many others places, like one in Omega and the Citadel.
And, no matter what anyone says, having your own place to relax or do anything you want was amazing.
Right now, in his office, there were three machines. Two of them were the most advanced machinery in the galaxy, excluding the Reapers of course, and the other was a Geth with the potential to lead his entire race. They were all seated, waiting for Samael to initiate the conversation.
They had some ideas about what this meeting was about, but they were waiting for Samael's confirmation.
Unlike his conversations with humans or other species, Samael was more direct with the machines, as they didn't waste too much time thinking. "There's a reason I called all of you here. You guys are smart, so you probably already guessed what this is about," Samael said, specifically looking at Legion. "It's time to bring the Geth to our side."
Of course, many Geth were under the Reaper's control, but many were not. So, when Samael referred to the Geth, he meant those not under the Reapers' influence.
Samael knew that he should have done this sooner. There was no excuse for not being prepared enough, and now he had to deal with the consequences of his actions—or rather, his inaction. The Geth were not well-liked from the beginning, and their situation only worsened when some of them allied with the Reapers to attack Thessia.
The situation, which wasn't good from the start, became even worse for the Geth, and Samael was a bit frustrated because he could have intervened sooner to try and change fate.
Of course, he had memories of past cycles where he tried that, and the end result didn't change much. Still, it was the lack of action that was bothering him.
Legion's eye expressed a form of joy—or something resembling it that a machine could show. "Finally.''
While Legion displayed this excitement, RR remained calm. "What's the plan, and what do you need us to do?"
Samael had already gathered the Geth under his wings in past cycles, and even though the situation in this last one was tricky, to say the least, the plan remained the same, "Legion will talk with the Geth who weren't under the Reapers' control, gather them, and put them in a safe place. From there, we will use them to help around the galaxy, changing the image of the Geth and maybe even bettering their reputation."
"Then, after the war, if we win, they will have a place in the galaxy."
"I could not ask for more." Legion only entered in contact with LD to warn and help them about the attack on Thessia, and perhaps get some assistance. Now it seemed his decision was the right one, as LD would aid his cause.
However, happiness doubled, as Samael continued, "Also, as you know, the Quarians, perhaps thanks to the Pill, are more open to peace with the Geth as of now. It's not definitive, but it is a start."
Tali and her father, the now-Councilor Rael, helped a lot on that front, as they were the most vocal about it.
Tali formed a bond with Legion, and from the beginning, she was more open than the rest of the Quarians. Thanks to that, and the influence she received from the crew, she was acting more straightforward with anything, something that was helping the Geth a lot.
Raeel was the same, though he was interested in the Geth as a whole from the start, even using the machines for experiments, his actions now were bettering not only the Quarians' chances of retaking Rannoch without fighting but also helping the Geth. While nothing can excuse his past actions, he is making an effort to be better, something that many people across the galaxy have yet to do.
"... Thank you, Captain." This was all Legion could muster after the initial shock. It seemed the machine was touched by the gesture, if that was possible.
Samael nodded at Legion. "Thank me after we win the war and the truce is made. Now, any questions about the mission?"
EDI asked right away, "Can we use lethal force?"
She didn't ask about hostiles because she knew there would be some, but she wanted permission to kill if necessary.
"Yes, you can. But listen to Legion about which machines you can kill."
"Timeline to complete the mission?" RR asked this time.
Samael thought for a moment. A month was too short, and a year was too long. They had no time to waste. "Try to wrap things up in a month or two. If you can't complete the mission within six months, cancel it and return to Earth. We don't know when the Reapers will attack, and you three are too valuable allies to lose for too long."
Samael was sincere. Even he would have trouble dealing with RR and EDI, and while Legion wasn't on their level yet, he was trouble too.
Although LD had already dispatched a team to deal with the Batarian Relay, the Reapers were still coming regardless, and Samael knew they would be arriving sooner rather than later.
"I will also be going on a journey for a bit," Samael said while looking at the machines. "You will answer to Miranda while I'm away."
RR was taken aback, as she didn't know any of this, even though she was Samael's closest confidant. "For how long?"
Samael scratched his head. "I don't know, but it should last at least a month."
"A month?" RR knew how important Samael was to the status quo of the galaxy. Even though he denies it, he was literally the glue holding everyone together—Omega, Citadel, the Geth, you name it, he had connections with them. So, for him to go MIA at this juncture wasn't good news. "Is it necessary?"
After a deliberation that happened in an instant, RR asked this. She knew Samael was stubborn and likely had his reasons for what he was doing, but she wanted confirmation.
"Yes," Samael responded sincerely.
RR had no choice but to be convinced, but she remembered something that happened yesterday. "You disconnected me from your Omni-tool without any warning yesterday... is it related to this?"
Yes, RR was aware of everything that happened with Samael's Omni-tool because she was literally connected to it. She had panicked a little when that happened, only relaxing when she realized Samael was still with Miranda.
Still, she was annoyed, but now it seemed she had found the reason for her disconnection. Samael must have relayed some plans to Miranda that even she didn't know. Granted, it upset her even more, but she understood.
Samael nodded slowly. "I had things to discuss with Miranda that no one else could hear—not even you or EDI. Sorry."
By the way, EDI was okay with being disconnected from the Omni tool.
Samael expected a bit more nagging, but RR only nodded.
"Any more questions?"
EDI and Legion asked a few more questions while RR listened. She had her mission, and honestly, the details didn't really matter to her, as she would accomplish it anyway.
After a few rounds of questions, EDI asked the last question, "Who will be the leader of this mission?"
"As this mission is related to him and his people, Legion will be the leader." Samael responded immediately.
RR and EDI did not object, and although Legion was a little taken aback, he accepted the arrangement with grace.
Samael saw that the machines accepted the arrangement and decided to conclude the discussion. "Now you just need to think about the plan. Take your time and use all the resources LD has. Don't be shy while doing so, LD was created for this, after all."
Money was the biggest help against the Reapers, followed closely by people.
Suddenly, RR asked, almost interrupting Samael, "When are you leaving?"
"In a few days. We have the whole crew on Earth, and I plan to show them the planet for a bit."
Samael knew how important it was for his family to bond, and he didn't mind pushing things a little. This sudden travel around Earth was one of his ways to facilitate that. After all, Garrus and Solana, while acquaintances with everyone, still didn't have the same bond as the others.
"Then we will depart at the same time as you," RR said. She remembered something and looked at Legion, "I hope you don't mind."
"No problem with me," Legion replied.
Samael nodded and thought for a moment, "Okay then. Legion, while you know the whole crew, use this trip to bond some more. You will join us on this sudden trip."
Legion didn't mind not being close to the others, but he appreciated the gesture. "Thanks, Captain."
By the way, RR and EDI were going too.
"Also, you can't use the Phoenix for the mission, as I have plans for it while I'm away. You can use other ships LD." Samael added.
To be honest, what made the Phoenix special was the modification Samael did to it. The model of the other ships LD has was 60% equal to it and that is something.
The meeting ended, and the machines left first, leaving Samael alone in his office.
He sighed and slumped in his chair the moment they did. While he trusted them, the mission was very difficult, and he could not help them more than this.
This was their path, and he could only show them where it started. The rest was up to them.
No matter what happened, he was prepared this time. He was ready for many things, but he hoped it was just a feeling that something was wrong.
"Now, where to go..."
Samael spent the next moments thinking about where to visit in the upcoming week and finally left the building to meet with the rest of his family.
