Chapter 400: The Divine Game: Kart Racing 4
Behind Rita, she could hear the cursing in various languages, but she only felt exhilarated.
Would these foreign players let her off if she didn't attack them? Of course not.
Since that was the case, why bother hiding?
For the next several minutes, Rita attacked anyone she saw, going for a pure no-holds-barred offensive.
Nivalis had played two main single-player games in the High Tower: Match-3 puzzles and racing games. She was a dragon now, and her driving skills were even better than Rita's. Her drifting and cornering were smooth, and she was quick at dodging attacks.
The problem with her short legs was also easily solved. Nivalis simply used the tips of her wings to press the gas and brake pedals, since if she tried to use her feet, the kart was too small, and Rita wouldn't have anywhere to place hers.
After dodging another powerful-looking skill, Nivalis let out a few monkey-like "Ooo ooo ooo!" sounds, "This is our home field!"
Rita, feeling her feet tingling, responded, "…As long as you're happy."
Rita completely handed over the driving to Nivalis, letting her focus entirely on attacking other players—especially the foreign players who were clearly still new to driving karts. She could hit them with precision without even aiming for more than three seconds.
With Rita's attacks, their karts didn't lack any fuel for acceleration.
From behind, the sounds of kart collisions and flips kept echoing, but Rita didn't get any notifications about successful kills, unsure whether the players hadn't died or whether their deaths weren't attributed to her.
There were advantages to starting early. With the other players catching up, her acceleration fuel was generally kept at full capacity.
Unfortunately, under the effect of her Midnight Exile skill, most of the karts behind her started slowing down, intentionally keeping their distance from her.
After another ten minutes of racing, a row of glowing boxes appeared ahead.
The sound of engines roaring from behind her, Rita quickly took aim with her sniper rifle, thinking back to the last time she violated the rules. She said to Nivalis, "Just like last time, let's try crashing into the rightmost glowing box!"
Nivalis stepped on the gas, and the kart immediately smashed through the glowing box Rita had pointed out.
The moment the box shattered, it turned into a glowing portal, and Rita's kart shot through the portal along with the broken box.
BEEP—You have violated a game rule. Divine punishment will be randomly applied.
Divine punishment completed: You have lost 15% of your experience.
In the blink of an eye, they had switched locations. The kart appeared in what seemed like an open-air parking lot.
—Welcome, players, to the safe zone. Attacking is prohibited in the safe zone.
Rita: "Looks like one of the rules is that you can't crash the rightmost glowing box."
Nivalis: "Does that make you feel better?"
Rita admitted, "Much better."
Indeed, she felt much more at ease because, just as she said that to Nivalis, one of the rules was highlighted in front of her, and it shifted from a foreign language to English.
Rule Nine: It is forbidden to crash the first glowing box on the right.
The parking lot was filled with numerous broken karts, and many players were slowly driving their karts around. It was unclear whether they were searching for game monuments or simply observing the area, but all the players remained in their karts.
Rita eased off the gas and lightly pressed the brake. Nivalis smoothly turned the steering wheel, and together, they slowed down and started looking for the game monument.
Rita also made sure to memorize the current time.
The duo quickly found a fueling station in the middle of the parking lot, which had the most karts. Rita hit the brakes, and the kart stopped.
Inside the station were rows of self-service vending machines displaying various goods: food, fuel, repair liquids, tools, kart parts, and spray paints. The game monument stood in the middle of these machines.
It displayed the name of the game for the safe zone, along with a 9-minute countdown.
Game: Truth and Lies:
When the countdown ends, this safe zone will transform into a semi-open battle zone. The entrance will be closed, but the exit will remain open. Leaving the battle zone early will require a 5 kart coin parking fee.
Once the game begins, every 30 seconds, the information of one player will be revealed. You need to decide within 30 seconds whether the information is true or a lie.
Left blinker means "truth", Right blinker means "lie".
The person who's information is being revealed does not need to answer; their answer is automatically deemed correct.
If you fail to make a choice before the timer ends, you will be marked as incorrect.
The game has 50 rounds. Each correct answer rewards one kart coin, the only currency accepted at the fueling station.
The three players with the most correct answers will receive a rule explanation.
The 100 players with the most incorrect answers will die immediately.
For every incorrect answer, your kart's nitro fuel capacity will increase by 1%.
During battle zone time, players will temporarily be separated from their karts.
Leaving in the middle of the game does not affect the distribution of rewards.
Current number of players in this safe zone: 1536.
The time in the battle zone is limited to 30 minutes, and Rita can't stay for more than 21 minutes after deducting the 9 minutes before the game started. This means she can answer a maximum of 42 questions. It would be safest to leave after answering the 41st question.
Moreover, this game was filled with traps. Just the rule "Players will temporarily be separated from their karts" meant that players could steal each other's karts or even destroy them.
Other rules created a psychological battle. Find adventures at My Virtual Library Empire
The rewards for getting more correct answers were mediocre, and only three players would receive the rule explanation.
But answering incorrectly would raise her acceleration fuel cap. Yet the 100 players with the most incorrect answers would die.
Who wouldn't be greedy? Who wouldn't want more rewards? Who could resist the temptation?
Looking around, there were elite players from all worlds gathered here. Nearly 200 players were clustered near the game monument. Who could say they weren't greedy?
This game was destined to spark a fierce battle. How could Rita maximize her own interests while avoiding being one of the 100 players with the most mistakes?
The answer was simple: target 100 players, destroy their karts, and make sure they couldn't answer any questions. That would result in 50 questions all being marked wrong.
How to decide between kart coins and increasing the nitro fuel cap?
The answer was easy: don't choose! Just take what you need from other players!
Rita checked her fuel level. Despite racing for almost half an hour earlier, her fuel was still at 73%. After glancing around, she decided to try pressing the button in the middle of the steering wheel.
In an instant, a glass jar slowly pushed out from the kart, containing over half a jar of silver liquid. The jar's capacity was marked as 500ml.
The fuel bottles in the self-service vending machines at the station were pitifully small, only about 20-30ml each, similar to little essential oil bottles. They all looked the same, except for the model number on the labels. Rita even saw the 36th type of fuel that she couldn't use.
