chapter 24
Chapter 24: Sir, That’s Not How You Use a Bad Woman
Chu Yan caught the undertone and looked at Janet puzzled, only to find her winking slyly.
Shanoa glanced at Chu Yan, noticing his flirtatious exchange with Janet, and said with apparent indifference:
“No prior plans, do as you please.”
……
By evening, Janet was already barbecuing in the yard.
Considering the venue couldn’t accommodate the people from the slums, Janet gave some of the meat to them to grill for themselves.
As the first batch of meat was nearly done, Janet said to Chu Yan, who was helping nearby:
“Young Lord, go call Shanoa down to eat, I’ll also call others, see how many I can gather.”
“Okay.”
After responding, Chu Yan immediately went upstairs to his room.
Upon opening the door, he saw Shanoa crushing berries in a basin, the deep purple juice flowing over her delicate, pale feet.
She stomped with vigor, seemingly venting her frustration.
Chu Yan blinked and asked:
“Shanoa, what are you doing? The berries we bought with such effort, why crush them?”
“Of course, it’s meant to be crushed, how can you brew fruit wine without crushing it, what’s the problem?”
It seemed that way, but there was also a hint of unusual emotion in her words.
Chu Yan sat down beside her:
“Can’t I just eat a few first and then crush them… Are you upset because Janet invited you to grill meat?”
The female knight’s fingertips played with her hair while continuing to crush the fruit, and she replied nonchalantly:
“No, I have no reason to care who eats with whom.”
Chu Yan nodded in agreement:
“That’s right, there’s no reason to be upset.
Xanoya, no matter what, wouldn’t get upset just because she was invited to eat grilled meat downstairs, it’s just postponing tonight’s dinner to tomorrow, after all!
Let’s go eat, it’s all done, and we’ll have to wait if we’re late.”
Xanoya suddenly realized something was off, and she seemed to have misinterpreted the meaning, her face turned awkward and stiff, expressionless, and asked:
“Are you intentionally teasing me, Janet?”
“No, did you misunderstand something strange?”
Xanoya was able to hear that the other person was intentionally pretending to be dumb, even making fun of her, and suddenly felt a bit embarrassed.
She used anger to cover up her embarrassment, picked up a fruit that hadn’t been crushed from the bowl, and said resentfully:
“You just said you wanted to eat fruit, there’s one here, eat it!”
Chapter 22: Blood Moon
When Chu Yan and Xanoya went downstairs to eat grilled meat, the female officer Omia who they had met earlier appeared.
Her face was stern, and she ate the grilled meat in silence, her left hand holding a meat skewer and her right hand holding a small bag of barley wine. However, her posture seemed like she was having a military meal, her waist straight and stiff, but the curve of her hips retained the unique feminine arc.
Except for this female officer, the plump female wizard who had drunk tea with Janet also appeared earlier.
However, it seemed like she was only there to accept Janet’s kindness, eating a few skewers and then preparing to leave.
“Janet, the meat quality and grilling method are not bad, but excessive grilling may cause me to worry about my figure, I’ll go back to look at my magic book now.”
“There’s no problem, just eat a fruit to digest, the little lord will treat me to dinner~”
Janet walked up to Chu Yan and took the juicy fruit from his hand, threw it onto the soft, creamy breast of the female wizard, and bounced it twice before it fell into her hand.
She knew that Chu Yan had always wanted to interact with other female prisoners, so she took the initiative to push him.
However, when Chu Yan saw Janet’s behavior, both he and Xanoya’s faces changed slightly, and their eyes flashed.
But Chu Yan still controlled his expression, politely nodding to the mature female wizard.
The other woman elegantly returned his gaze and then left.
That fruit was Xanoya’s…
Chu Yan originally wanted to approach and strike up a conversation, but now he didn’t dare to make a peep. After a while, he asked Janet:
“Isn’t anyone else coming out?”
“There might be others later. The rest just dealt with elite monsters in the sea, they’re probably too exhausted to come out and walk around.”
“Can they sleep like that? Seems like I do have something in common with these people after all.”
Janet came over with a plate of grilled meat for the two of them, and teasingly said to Xia Nuoya:
“I thought you wouldn’t come down, Xia Nuoya. It’s nice of you to grace us with your presence~”
Feeling the teasing gaze of the other, Xia Nuoya felt deeply embarrassed. After Janet walked away, she nudged Chu Yan with her elbow.
“Deduct two days!”
How could the price be bigger than sleeping together…
Chu Yan knew Xia Nuoya was looking for a way to save face, so he didn’t haggle.
After finishing a plate together, Xia Nuoya took the initiative to become the grill master, while Chu Yan tried to strike up a conversation with Omi Jia.
Omi Jia’s black hair was tied into a high ponytail, her features exuded meticulous determination and depth, and her whole being radiated an aura that was hard to approach. But upon closer inspection, her natural beauty was quite striking.
Chu Yan didn’t dare to look too much, and with a quick glance, he stated his purpose:
“Miss Omi Jia, would you mind if I ask you a sensitive question?”
“It depends on how sensitive it is.”
Relieved to get a response, Chu Yan was afraid of being outright ignored, which would have been truly embarrassing.
“What’s your take on the situation in Paradise City, or even the entire Dead Sea border?”
“The situation is very sensitive.”
“…?”
Chu Yan felt suffocated. What a serious way to converse!
It was like a conversation killer. How was he supposed to continue the dialogue?
The key was that Omi Jia wasn’t just trying to dismiss him with that response; she had considered it carefully and spoke with certainty.
Fortunately, Omi Jia briefly elaborated on her point.
“The castle’s suppression array seems to have some issues, its power is weakening, and people’s recovery time here has gotten longer.
The nobles are too quiet, mostly plotting mischief.
The next wave of elite monsters from the sea is coming during this time.
These days, the skies over the Dead Sea border have cleared up.”
If you don’t speak, not a word, but once you do, it’s a whole string…
But when it comes to speaking, this woman really only speaks to the point. If what she mentioned is true, it’s indeed very sensitive!
And among this string of sensitive points, Omi Jia’s last sentence seemed somewhat out of place.
It’s too ordinary.
Chu Yan, exercising his ability to “fathom the examiner’s intent,” inquired:
“The sky over the Dead Sea is clear, Miss Omeika, are you by any chance praising me in a roundabout way, using the scenery to express your high regard for my work these past days?”
“……”
The female officer seemed to have a question mark pop over her head as she bluntly said:
“You’re overthinking it. I simply found it unusual, but indeed, the changes you’ve made to the Dead Sea are commendable… I’m full, my lord, please continue at your leisure.”
Omeika stood up and left for a walk in the city.
Chu Yan wanted to say something to retain her, pondering if there were more pick-up lines he could use, but he chose to let it go.
Forcing a conversation would be too deliberate; at least now there was a good start.
He had just settled back into his seat when the rare sound of carriages came from outside, and three carriages entered the castle courtyard.
On the carriages, the church’s emblem was engraved.
Just as he was wondering, two or three nuns walked out of the castle, figures Chu Yan had never seen before.
Several nuns boarded the carriages, and soon after, a few more nuns disembarked.
It seemed like some sort of shift change at a post, and after the exchange was complete, the church’s three carriages left directly, not even greeting Chu Yan.
“Shanoa, do you know what’s going on? Why would nuns be sent here?”
Chu Yan was very curious.
Could it be that among the nuns, there were those who had fallen to forbidden powers?
But why were the ones sent taken back again?
Regrettably, Shanoa also shook her head, clueless:
“I’m not sure, they must be the clergy living on the second floor. I’ve seen them once or twice during sword practice, a bunch of people who don’t interact with others.”
