Chapter 283: Invasion (2)
In the end, there wasn't anything that we could do about this.
The only thing that we could do was prepare ourselves for the invasion that was about to come.
"Where are you planning to go?" I asked Yun Tian, changing the topic.
Yun Tian was pulled out of his complaints about the leaders and revealed a serious look without saying anything. It was only after a while that he finally spoke, "I'll be honest, I haven't thought much about this yet. There have only been reports about the appearance of some Abyss Demons, so we don't actually know how many of them there will be. At the same time, we don't have any concrete information about where they will come from."
I gave a simple nod since I had already expected this, but I didn't say anything as I waited for an answer.
Seeing this, there was a faint smile that appeared on Yun Tian's face along with a trace of hesitation. But in the end, he still said, "I don't know for certain where we would go, but I can say that we won't be on the frontlines. If anything, we'll most likely be in the backlines where there will be the fewest Abyss Demons."
His expression became a bit more complicated as he said, "I know that this will mean that there will be less Abyss Demons to fight, but it'll be the safest place…"
His voice trailed off as he said this, but the expression on his face was the same as he looked at me.
My expression didn't change while he spoke, so he wasn't actually able to read what I was thinking.
But then I suddenly said with a smile, "If you were going to suggest something else, then I would have split up from you."
A surprised look appeared on Yun Tian's face before it slowly filled with relief.
I shook my head with the same smile as I said, "Did you think that I was someone who cared that much about contribution points? I'm not greedy like them, I'm just someone trying to keep myself safe in this world."
The relieved look that was on Yun Tian's face soon turned into a smile after he heard this before he suddenly reached out to slap me on the shoulder.
With his strength, it actually hurt quite a bit, but I just held it in while smiling at him.
"Ha, ha, ha, I knew that my eyes weren't wrong. Brother Lin, it seems that we have the same thoughts. Let's let the greedy people risk their lives while we keep ourselves safe."
With this, it was decided that we would hide wherever was safest.
Even if we did this, it wasn't as if there was anyone that would stop us since we would be effectively eliminating ourselves from their competition. It was that competition that they were having to see who could get the most contribution points.
That was why they weren't summoning those other soldiers in the first place.
Since we wouldn't get in their way, they would even be happy to see us hiding like this.
Though the real reason that I wanted to do this wasn't because it was the safest option.
The real reason that I chose to do this was because I wanted to observe the captains.
I hadn't been able to find any signs of the dark energy since I started looking around the camp, so I had no idea where to even look. But if the dark energy was to infiltrate the camp, it would be someone that would have a decent rank in this place.
So it should be one of the captains that had been taken over by the dark energy.
At the same time, since the captains had decided on doing something risky like this, it really felt like this was them making their move.
As such, I really wanted to see what the captains would do.
Just like this, there was another day that passed.
During the course of that day, there was more and more information that came in.
There were more and more sightings of the Abyss Demons from the scouts, which showed that they were coming. At the same time, with the reports from the scouts, it didn't seem like it would be long before the Abyss Demons arrived.
That was why the camp was divided into different sections.
These sections would be under the captains and they would command everyone under them in this fight. Though in reality, the captains only brought those that were close to them with them.
The rest would be free to fight however they wanted to fight.
However, it wasn't as if this was a bad thing.
In the first place, the Abyss Guards were an organization that was made of different teams. So it wasn't as if grouping them together was a way of letting them fight effectively.
They were used to fighting on their own and putting them together would actually make it harder for them to fight.
So this way, everyone would be able to bring out their full potential.
The only thing was that without the soldiers to help them take the brunt of the attack, it would be the Abyss Guards that would be facing the brunt of the attack.
So there was no doubt that there would be casualties.
The team that we were put in was Captain Fang's team which was a surprise.
Since that first day, Yun Tian hadn't actually spent any time with Captain Fang other than in the meetings. So it was surprising that he would actually choose them to be a part of his team.
Only there was a problem.
"Join my team." That was what Captain Fang said to Yun Tian when he held the meeting with all the teams.
He only said this to Yun Tian and not us.
It was clear that he wanted to split us up and bring Yun Tian alone into his team.
But in the end…
