Chapter 169: Dekan Strongly Condemns Mauleon
Mauleon calmly spun a web of lies. Between him and Countless Lysilina, one dared to speak, and the other dared to listen.
"The Resurgence Church?" Countess Lysilina was slightly puzzled; she had never heard of such an organization in all these years.
"Heh, you've been out for all these years, yet your information is not as well-informed as mine, a vampire that has been sealed for a hundred years?" Mauleon's chin lifted slightly, and his voice turned colder.
"No! Milord Marquess! I have done my best to save you, please believe in my efforts! I truly have not found any trace of this organization!" Lysilina's hand rested on her chest, her expression filled with sincerity and sorrow as she looked at Mauleon.
"..."
Mauleon seemed like he was about to say something, but then sighed as if he couldn't bear it in his heart.
"I'm sorry, Lysilina. My nerves were too taut. I know you are now the only blood kin in this world that I can trust," Mauleon said somewhat self-reproachfully, the coldness in his eyes fading slightly and revealing a tenderness that didn't seem to belong to the ruthless marquess.
But soon, he regained his cold expression, as if trying to hide the emotions he had just shown.
However, Countess Lysilina noticed everything.
Her heartbeat seemed to become clearer in this quiet night."Milord Marquess, I will never question anything you say again," after a while, Lysilina knelt on one knee before Mauleon, bowing deeply.
"No, your caution is right. After all, humans are too cunning. A slight misstep and we could fall into their trap," Mauleon seemed to get more and more worked up, even causing Dekan to glance at him.
For a moment, Dekan wondered if this guy had truly lost his mind.
Mauleon slowly walked up to Lysilina, half crouched down in front of her, and then helped her up.
"Lysilina, the Resurgence Church is undoubtedly a great enemy of our vampire clan. They are a secret society originating from the southern city-states, extremely adept at infiltration. It's normal not to find them," Mauleon said, then changed the subject, "But, I want to ask if you've had any unexpected gains in the city-state these past few days?"
"Yes, last night and tonight I each caught two humans who were trying to investigate us," Lysilina replied, gazing into Mauleon's eyes.
"Very well, that leaves five fish that slipped through the net. Even without my hint, you managed to catch members of the Resurgence Church. Isn't that well done?" Mauleon's lips curled into a slight smile.
"I dare not...," Lysilina spoke humbly, but her tone couldn't conceal the joy in her heart.
"Heh heh, if you leave them a little room to breathe, remember to ask them about those two words, 'Resurgence Church.' Their expressions are bound to be quite spectacular," Mauleon advised.
"Understood, Milord Marquess."
"Well then, discuss the specific search plan with my kin. After all, interrogating and hunting humans is more in line with his skills," Mauleon waved his hand, seeming to be too lazy to deal with the situation here. He walked to the window of the corridor, gazing at the moon faintly visible in the sky.
In the dimly lit corridor, moonlight seeped through the curtains, making Mauleon's slightly pale face appear as if it were sculpted from moonlight. His expression revealed a sense of pride, sorrow, or depth—it was hard to tell.
If someone were to bring him a glass of red wine now, it would add to the atmosphere.
Dekan looked at Mauleon, suspecting that this guy was overacting. Or perhaps Mauleon had just gotten a perfect script...
Dekan glanced helplessly at Countess Lysilina.
Mauleon had passed the task to Dekan, and it was up to Dekan to explain the next steps of the search plan to the countess. However, Dekan noticed that the countess didn't seem eager to discuss the plan.
She was just a bit infatuated, her expression openly showing admiration and idolization as she gazed as Mauleon.
The grand vampire countess now looked like a young deer, bumping into things haphazardly.
As Lysilina had mentioned earlier, she seemed to have admired Marquess Roderick for a long time.
Meeting the marquess again after several hundred years, he still appeared so strong and steady. Cold and ruthless, yet occasionally showing a hint of tenderness towards her.
Countess Lysilina could be said to have fallen deeply.
Dekan couldn't help but sigh. If they followed the normal strategy in clearing the Shadow World and happened to fail in the end and let Marquess Roderick escape, the two vampires would be particularly troublesome.
Should they fail, the two vampires might end up becoming a couple.
It could only be said that Mauleon had done all sorts of bad things, deceiving the feelings of a several hundred years old young maiden.
Dekan strongly condemned this behavior.
"Ahem, Lady Lysilina, we would need your assistance in capturing the Resurgence Church followers," Dekan bowed gracefully like a demon butler.
"Oh, alright. Please, go on," Lysilina quickly came back to her senses.
"The plan is simple. Please have your female kinfolk pretend to be severely injured and then flee into the city," Dekan pointed to Countess Lysilina’s only female servant.
"Then, order the lord of the city to send out a large number of weaker knights to chase after her. Once someone offers assistance, bring them to the lord's mansion."
"Without causing too much commotion, try to expand the scope of the pursuit, allowing all the experts in the entire city-state a chance to investigate the situation," Dekan explained his plan.
This made Countess Lysilina furrow her brow slightly. The plan this demon kin proposed was not much different from the one she had been executing. There was just a slight difference in the first step—Dekan had chosen a female vampire servant as bait, and she had to appear vulnerable.
"No problem, but whether we can lure the enemies again tonight will depend on luck," Countess Lysilina responded.
"Heh heh, no need to worry. Even if we can't catch all five of them, we shouldn't come back empty-handed. Everything is within the plan of our Lord Marquess," Dekan assured.
"Alright then, I'll make the preparations."
Initially, Countess Lysilina wanted to ask if Dekan had any other tricks up his sleeve. However, upon hearing "our Lord Marquess's plan," she dared not ask further despite her overwhelming curiosity.
"After capturing these humans, let's not rush to kill them. Let's interrogate them first," Dekan added.
After all, there was a small probability of accidentally running into legitimate challengers, so it was necessary to investigate.
"In that case, there's no time to lose. I'll go execute the plan and have the lord prepare bedrooms for you," Countess Lysilina replied.
"Just one room will do. I'm still quite weak right now, and my kinfolk need to stay close to me," Mauleon finally spoke again.
After all, they were playing with fire in the enemy's stronghold. The whole team needed to stay together for a safe and comfortable rotation of rest.
