There is something wrong with Hikigaya’s classroom of the Elite, as expected

Chapter 17

Chapter 17: Such a Dazzling Sun

Yukinoshita’s ability to understand the details of the car accident from three years ago was completely beyond Hachiman’s expectations. He had planned to sever the connection between them as quickly as possible, cutting off this unwanted intersection of their paths. Yet, it unexpectedly tangled them even more.

Faced with Yukinoshita’s questioning and noticing the genuine signs that she was actually “angry,” Hachiman lowered his head and sighed. “I’m sorry.”

Yukinoshita’s expression softened slightly, and after shaking her head, she asked, “Hachiman-kun, do you know who the purest people in the world are?”

“The purest?”

Hachiman frowned. Was this one of those tricky questions? He answered cautiously, “Japanese people?”

“Bingo! Too bad there’s no reward, do you know why?” Haruno clapped her hands in appreciation.

Hikigaya shook his head.

“Because… only pure Japanese people think that just saying ‘sorry’ will get them forgiven!”

“……”

Alright, Hikigaya couldn’t find a rebuttal in time, and Haruno’s implied meaning was clear. Hikigaya lowered his head, powerless, and said, “So, what does Yukinoshita-san want?”

“Can Hikigaya-kun guess the purpose of me being here? There’s a reward~” Haruno looked at Hikigaya with a playful smile.

“It should be for club recruitment.”

That’s a lie! Hikigaya thought to himself.

Although the two had only spent a short time together, Hikigaya still noticed that Haruno seemed curious about the surrounding club recruitments, but she didn’t really care. Coupled with her background from middle school, Hikigaya vaguely guessed what was going on but decided to pretend to be clueless.

Haruno squinted her eyes and stared silently into Hikigaya’s eyes. The atmosphere grew a bit cold, and Hikigaya’s gaze instinctively avoided hers. However, seeing this, Haruno suddenly smiled.

“Hehe, Hikigaya-kun, you’re really sly,” Haruno feigned dissatisfaction. “You clearly guessed it, but still pretended not to know.”

A flash of panic appeared on Hikigaya’s face, and just as he was about to argue, Haruno spoke first. “I’ve decided. Let’s join the student council together!”

Hikigaya’s face stiffened. “Wait a minute, the student council is not for people like me! No, why should I even join the student council!”

Whenever the student council was mentioned, Hikigaya always thought back to the tragic days when a certain little devil of a junior had turned him into a manual laborer. He had only been an unnoticed errand boy, doing all the hard work of an office worker. He didn’t want to experience that again!

But Haruno suddenly asked meaningfully, “Do you know what’s special about this school?”

Hikigaya’s expression stiffened. As expected, Haruno knew the truth about this school. However, Hikigaya still pretended not to understand. “What’s special? Of course, the 100% graduation rate and employment rate. Plus, I’m just a student in Class D, I could never join a high-status organization like the student council.”

From Haruno’s words, Hikigaya faintly sensed a troublesome vibe!

“Oh?”

Haruno smiled slightly and leaned in close to Hikigaya’s ear. “Let me tell you a little secret. This school’s student council is very special. The power they have is far greater than that of an ordinary school, and they can easily accomplish things that regular students can’t.”

Hikigaya looked puzzled and confused. “What do you mean? Does the student council do something even more outrageous than ‘distributing 100,000 personal points each month’?”

Haruno didn’t respond, instead staring intently into Hikigaya’s dead fish-like eyes. This time, Hikigaya didn’t avoid her gaze, but looked straight back at her. His eyes clearly showed confusion and doubt, and it was hard for anyone to detect anything unusual.

10 seconds.

30 seconds.

A minute.

After a long time, Hikigaya seemed unable to hold out anymore and his eyes unconsciously darted away.

“Late-kun is really a born liar! Even I almost got fooled.”

It was over!

Although Haruno didn’t seem to act out of the ordinary, Hikigaya still faintly sensed a flash of anger in her expression, something he had learned from years of being toyed with by a big devil!

“Hey, isn’t this the guy who was late on the first day of school?”

Suddenly, a shout from behind interrupted the two. It was Ike and Yamauchi, the pair of fools, who had been wandering around the gym after the red-haired boy went to consult with the basketball club.

They weren’t just wandering. Their eyes kept darting toward different girls, their lecherous gazes not even attempting to hide. They were complete idiots!

“Wow, why does this guy, Hikigaya, have a girl by his side? Damn it! What kind of luck is this?!”

Ike was stunned when he saw Haruno beside Hikigaya, especially since Haruno was beautiful and had a remarkable figure. His eyes widened, and his face was full of jealousy and envy. He gritted his teeth and cursed.

“Oh, so the dead fish eyes guy is called Hikigaya, I thought his name was Hikimochi, haha!” Yamauchi didn’t care that the person he was mocking was right there, laughing loudly.

Just like Ike, Yamauchi’s eyes locked on Haruno, ignoring Hikigaya’s dark expression. He quickly walked over to Haruno, acting overly familiar and greeting her, “Hey, which class are you in? I’m Yamauchi Haruki, the ace pitcher of the middle school baseball team and an 8th-degree black belt in karate. Nice to meet you.”

After saying that, Yamauchi even messed with his hair, striking what he thought was a cool pose.

Hey, idiot, you’re so creepy!

Hikigaya was too embarrassed to look!

At the same time, Hikigaya noticed Haruno’s questioning and confused gaze. He turned his face away, pretending to not know this idiot.

Haruno was clearly stunned for a moment before her gaze fell on Yamauchi. “Black belt? Eighth degree?”

“Ah, it’s just a small thing,” Yamauchi said quickly, puffing his chest, and arrogantly wiped his thumb across his nose. “Do you want to learn? I’ll teach you!”

Haruno couldn’t hold back any longer and burst out laughing, but Yamauchi, who claimed to be an eighth-degree black belt, didn’t understand why she was laughing. He thought his coolness and impressive resume had successfully captured her attention.

“By the way, you haven’t introduced yourself yet. We’re in the same grade, why don’t we hang out sometime? Don’t worry, I’m really rich,” Yamauchi continued, paying no attention to Hikigaya, but noticing that his gaze kept lingering on certain parts of Haruno.

Hey, jerk, you’re way too creepy!

Hikigaya couldn’t bear to look at this idiot anymore. This guy’s hopeless!

At the same time, Hikigaya felt an inexplicable surge of anger inside him. Ignoring the two who looked like they were about to devour Haruno, he stepped forward to block their view, standing beside her to cover her from Ike and Yamauchi’s lecherous gazes, only showing his dead fish eyes.

This idiot probably still believed in the fantasy of getting 100,000 personal points each month. Based on what Hikigaya had observed today and Yamauchi’s deliberate flaunting, he realized that Yamauchi had spent over half of his points on a game console and several other digital products!

However, Haruno seemed oblivious to Yamauchi’s lecherous gaze, even adjusting her shirt in a way that emphasized her figure. Ichi and Yamauchi’s eyes were glued to her, unable to look away, and Hikigaya could even hear the sound of them swallowing.

But… whether intentional or not, Haruno suddenly leaned a little closer to Hikigaya, narrowing the space between them. The scent of osmanthus flower drifted up to his nose, and even his arm could vaguely feel her soft presence.

When Haruno spoke, Hikigaya suddenly felt a wave of impact, as if a huge wave was crashing over him!

Meanwhile, Ike and Yamauchi’s eyes went wide, practically popping out of their sockets. They looked as if they wanted to kick Hikigaya aside and take his place.

“I? I’m in Class A. Yuk… ”

Halfway through, Haruno seemed to remember something interesting. A sly smile appeared on her face as she continued, “Sakanagi… I’m Sakanagi Arisu from Class A. Nice to meet you, Black Belt Ace Pitcher~~”

Hikigaya’s face darkened immediately. Although he didn’t know who Sakanagi was, he knew from Haruno’s cunning personality that something was definitely off. Just as he was about to speak, Haruno winked at him, and the meaning was clear.

“Kawaii~ What a cute name. Sakanagi, do you know that Hikigaya here was late on the first day of school? Luckily, I have a good relationship with the teacher, otherwise, he would have been criticized. And this guy just sits there in class, spacing out like a fool. If not for me looking out for him, I don’t know how badly he’d get bullied.” Yamauchi kept going, belittling Hikigaya at every opportunity!

“Oh? Is the ace pitcher from Class D the class representative?” Haruno asked curiously, but her slightly trembling shoulders and the way she pursed her lips betrayed her feelings.

“Of—of course!” Yamauchi hesitated for a moment but then, seeing Haruno’s expectant look, he quickly regained his confidence. “Everyone in the class respects my experience from middle school, but I have to give other students a chance to shine. Sometimes, being too good is a curse, and it’s their misfortune to be born in the same era as me. It can’t be helped; the sun… is simply so bright.”

Yamauchi was now fully immersed in his fantasy, getting more and more excited as he spoke. “By the way, Sakanagi, would you like to grab dinner together later? Don’t worry, I can pay with my card…” Yamauchi suddenly stopped, confused.

“Where did she go?” Yamauchi looked around, realizing that Haruno had disappeared without a trace.

Ike, standing beside him, finally spoke, his expression blank. “Don’t bother looking. She left a long time ago.”

“What? But I didn’t get her contact info! Damn it!!!”
