Chapter 24: [24]
Lagertha and I left that night to the next battlefield running into Mikael who was fitting for the descendants of his cousin Rollo. with a Rebekah running after us constantly apologizing for abandoning me…her reasoning was that she was certain Mikael would kill them all as they all played a part in their mother's death…and that only I could calm father's temper.
It only filled me with irritation…at both my siblings and Father, especially when Father looked at Rebekah like she was a craven lunatic but didn't explain to her he wasn't even mad at them.
The dimwit didn't even express his feelings after we switched sides mid battle and helped Mikael slaughter an army of 40 thousand strong.
The battle was enjoyable but the clock was ticking on Lagertha and I joining in battles…firearms were slowly starting to replace bows, swords, and other weapons boys taught to load, reload and fire replacing warriors.
Lagertha was doing her best to hide it but I could see it in her eyes…her lust for battle and life itself was fading, while I was flying high on it with so many advances coming about...and people were slowly starting to adopt better hygiene practices.
It didn't help that one of my more prominent and promising Sires and inventory from florencia, vowed that this was only the beginning of the technological revolution, as he even started inventing flying ships and self powered wagons.
Two hundred years flew by and Leo was continuously proven correct and that had an even more pronounced effect on Lagertha…
As Lagertha has become more resigned…from life and has become drawn in on herself, she doesn't even seek out playthings for us to play with anymore…she barely eats unless I feed her…sometimes she starves herself to the point she starts to desicate.
The only time I get to see the light return to her eyes is when we spar…but it quickly fades away…it feels like my heart is being ripped from my chest every time I see that forlorn look in her eyes.
Garmr and Roach…eased the feelings of loneliness that started to build up in my chest, though…I felt like I needed some human companionship.
So one day I got on a ship named the Wicked Wench, from the West Indies Trading company…it's Captain and man named Beckett and his First Mate, Jack Sparrow…a boy maybe of around 13, who looks a lot like Johnny Depp, and could down rum like water…
'What are thee odds...?' I ask myself as I look at the Young Jack Sparrow who seems to be mystified and intrigued by my presence, as I bring my wineskin up to my lips and drink from it heavily...my skills in distilling alcohol more refined over the years.
"So Mr.Mikaelson…what be you drinking? And may a fellow sailor get some?" Jack asks me and I chuckle.
"Sure kid." I reply to Jack and hand him my wineskin that has some whiskey I made and aged for 500 years inside of it.
"Well, it's not rum…but it's pleasant." Jack says to me and I laugh softly, as he turns around and rubs his throat.
'Heh, surprised he even got it down that was 150 proof.' I chuckle internally as I close my eyes to get some rest and feel Jack cover me with a heavy canopy blanket while stealing a few silvers.
"Vidar…" Freya greets me coldly, making me sigh softly.
"Haa, how many times do I have to apologize, my Freya?" I ask softly as Freya glares at me with her hands on her hips.
"You could have warned me what you were plotting or had your spiritual whore do so!" Freya whisper shouts at me, making my head hurt.
"You know if I didn't do what I did I wouldn't even be here for you to yell at anymore." I reply to Freya, my voice growing a bit agitated, but that agitation immediately fizzling out as Freya flinches.
"Y-you could have stayed human and used a binding spell with one of our siblings…" Freya whispers softly as she removes her hands from her hips and walks over to me, a large bed materializes behind and Freya pushes me onto it with her laying on top of me.
"I know…there were many paths I could have taken…but this one gives me the ability to use magic without relying on external talismans and magical trinkets…and it has side benefits for you…all the advantages of being an Original Heretic…and none of the disadvantages." I reply to Freya who nuzzles her cheek against my chest like a cat.
"Yes brother I know…it doesn't change the fact that I felt you die and if Dahlia hadn't felt particularly…attached to me there is a chance we both could have died…and not risen again, you do understand how large of a risk you took at least?" Freya replies to me as we have the same mini-fight we've had every 100 years when Freya and Dahlia come out of hibernation.
"Yes I do, and it was an educated risk to help me become strong enough to take you away from Dahlia and to protect us." I reply to Freya as I cup her cheek and initiate a soft kiss.
"How is sister?" Freya asks me and I know she is asking about Lagertha and not Rebekah…in fact I worry a bit about Rebekah's safety during one of Freya's misadventures.
"Worse than before…I don't know what to do Freya…she hates this life and she only stays by my side out of duty and love." I reply to Freya's question, my voice thick with emotions as my eyes sting with unshed tears of stress and emotional suffering.
"May-maybe the time has come to set her free of her duties…and love…of you." Freya suggests something that the darker side of me has been suggesting for the last 200 years.
"Freya…if she falls…a large part of me wants to fall with her…if it wasn't for Lagertha after you were taken…I-I'm not sure who I'd be." I reply to Freya who wraps her arms around my neck and hugs me.
"If that is to be our fate at least we will face it as a family…Always and Forever." Freya whispers to me softly as she kisses my cheek, and I throw my arms over her waist.
"I love you Freya." I whisper as I feel the world around us starting to fade away and the feeling of someone shaking my shoulders.
"I love you, my Vidar…" Freya whispers back to me as she initiates a deep kiss.
My eyes snap open to a panicked Jack, the smell of gunpowder, the clashing of steel against steel, the sounds of muskets being fired, and the smell of oil and wood burning…the heavy scent of unwashed men and blood being the most powerful.
"Pirates!" Jack and I say together, both of our faces stretching into grins, both of us full of excitement.
I may have taken a bit more of a protective stance in the battle shielding Jack from Musket shots and close calls that would have been lethal.
'Haa, It feels nice...kinda like I'm a big brother again....' I sigh as I catch a blade through my arm that would have pierced through Jack's back.
Jack is quick for a human…and skilled for a boy his age in this time but still inexperienced and reckless…and I found myself wanting to look after him.
We made our way to the Captain, my hunger building with every man cut down and the increase in the sweet scent of blood with them, but it was my policy to drink from women only...unless I'm starving.
'And cause it feels gay as fuck...to hold onto and suck a guys neck... though I have less of a problem hanging a guy upside down sliting their throat and filling a goblet...plus men's blood isn't as sweet or smooth... it's kinda smoky and thick.' I mentally tack on.
...
So fuck off all y'all who want to complain about time skips or fucking pets, and claim they can do better, got news for you I've read your shit, last people who should be giving advice to people on how to write a story are the people who write on Webnovel or just blatantly copy and paste other people's ffs and pass them off as their own, yeah you know who you are.
