The World in a Box

Chapter 5: A tale begun by gods and mortals

In the world inside the box, the land where humanity would be born, a snowstorm raged.
Ling quickly shut her eyes. Then, she felt herself falling, as if sinking into an ocean filled with brilliant, dazzling light.
Ling descended deeper and deeper, surrounded by strange symbols and unfamiliar objects—iron houses that could walk, towering rectangles that reached the sky, people wearing cool clothing, moving paintings, roaring furnaces, and deadly weapons that could kill with a single press.
"Is this the dwelling place of the gods?" Ling was intoxicated by the sight, greedily absorbing all the knowledge.
It seemed like ages had passed, yet in the blink of an eye, she found herself back in the real world. She snapped her eyes open, and the knowledge given by the god was now firmly implanted in her mind.
At the same time, Ling suddenly felt something heavy fall upon her—something indescribable, a weight that was both burdensome and liberating.
She knew that while she had gained what she sought, she had also lost something.
Ling didn't understand what it was that had fallen upon her, but Lin Ming did.It was the "luck" of this world.Under Lin Ming's guidance, the fate of this era had settled upon the frail girl.
Lin Ming knew that this girl, named Ling, would change the course of the world inside the box. He was eager to see how she, having received nearly five thousand years of knowledge from Blue Star, would shape the civilization of this new world.
The seed had been planted; now it was just a matter of waiting for it to blossom.
Having completed this task, Lin Ming was about to sever his connection with Ling when an unexpected thought crossed his mind.He wanted to know what Ling saw when she looked at him.
"What do you see in me?" Lin Ming asked.
Ling didn't understand why a god so high above would ask such a question, but she answered truthfully:"You are a giant, a being draped in stars, holding billions of stars in your hands, constantly changing shapes."
A giant clothed in starlight?
After receiving her answer, Lin Ming cut the connection with Ling and handed over the "helm" of the world inside the box to her.
It was at this moment that Lin Ming suddenly realized something: the flow of time inside the world had sped up.
He quickly understood that while he was connected with Ling, the time inside the box had synchronized with the time in his own world. But once the connection was severed, time began to diverge again.
And with that, Lin Ming was able to witness the sweeping journey of Ling's life in a short span of time.
Thanks to the miracle that had occurred, Ling quickly gained the respect of the refugees. Using the knowledge in her mind, she helped them survive the harsh winter and settle into the land. They called this place the "Land of Divine Descent," the place where the miracle had occurred.
Furthermore, Ling declared the year of the miracle to be "Year One of the Divine Descent."
To them, Lin Ming was the only god to ever manifest a miracle in the world.
Because the miracle had descended in the form of a strange beam of light, they believed Lin Ming to be the God of Light.
They called themselves the "Divine Servants," building a great temple to Lin Ming—the "Temple of Light"—and crowned Ling as the first "Goddess."
A thousand and one years after humanity's birth of wisdom, under the guidance of the gods, humanity finally began to write the epic of mortals and gods.
