The Witcher: Lord of the Empire

Chapter 80: Resurgence Amidst Chaos

At this time, only Lann is left in the entire exploration team.

He had just used [Fleet Footed] to avoid the shockwave that covered the entire room, making the attack damage non-fatal. Seeing the monsters staggering up from the ground, Lann's expression became even more grim.

He was panting heavily, and the long, continuous high-intensity struggle almost left his body without energy.

Lann suddenly asked: "Tomas Moreau, where does the portal lead to?"

The specter in mid-air actually responded: "It could be under the sea, it could be on the top of the mountain. I don't know... I can't control that much anymore..."

Lann took a deep breath and said in surprise: "You actually answered me?"

The green flame burned Tomas Moreau's body a little more. "You will... die."

"So you're in this all the way? You want us both to die?"

"Only you will die. You... destroy, experiments... destroy... body... destroy..."

"That's enough, it's hard to understand you when you talk. Better shut up."

The gargoyle with stones falling from its body rose from the ground and the huge golem turned in their direction. The giant centipede with the cracked and bleeding shell lifted its upper body from him. The drowners and ghouls, with most of their bodies broken, cast hateful glances.

Lann hammered his aching legs and removed the part of the plate armor that he could take off alone. This thing was already a huge load on his current body.

"So, let's see which of the two of us can hold out the longest... Tomas Moreau!"

But gradually, Tomas Moreau discovered something was wrong.

When the golem threw the stones, Lann faced the rocks as he rolled and came out without a scratch.

As the golem hit the ground, creating a circular shockwave, Lann dodged and rolled away without taking damage.

When a type of Necrophage, the Scurver, exploded near Tomas Moreau, sending its bony spines in all directions, Lann rolled forward without a scratch.

The specter was taken aback. 'Without a scratch, without a scratch, without a scratch! What the hell is going on with this kid? What kind of magic is this? Why isn't there any magical fluctuation?'

Time passes minute by minute. Finally, Tomas Moreau could not contain himself any longer: "Golem, stay...protect me, gargoyle...deal with that kid!"

The three gargoyles began to emanate magical fluctuations and suddenly disappeared from the hall and reappeared above Lann in the blink of an eye.

Three huge monsters weighing tons fell like meteors, creating three huge craters in the ground and sending a shower of stones everywhere.

Lann managed to dodge the attack of the three gargoyles and the spreading shock wave, but he was hit squarely by the shower of stones, leaving him covered in bruises and bleeding wounds.

The shortcomings of [Fleet Footed] were finally exposed.

Lann can avoid damage while rolling, as long as he has enough physical strength, he can dodge for eternity, taking advantage of the invulnerability bug. However, there was always a vulnerable moment in his jumps and landings during the dodging process.

He is immune to damage only during the during process of evasion.

Lann has always suffered one-time attacks such as slashing, explosions, and hammer blows. He had never experienced a continuous attack, nor had he had to dodge so desperately.

In the air, the specter's eyes flashed as he finally found Lann's vulnerability.

He was about to send the golem to attack to end the fight once and for all. But when he turned around, he discovered that the golem was being enveloped and immobilized by three giant centipedes.

At the same time, more and more drowners and ghouls clung to the stone body of the golem like they were ants.

Without the cooperation of the gargoyles, the golem alone cannot stop this group of monsters.

Just as Tomas Moreau focused his attention on Lann, one of the giant centipedes slithered down the wall to the ceiling, its tentacles trembling as it aimed towards the specter that was just below it.

Suddenly there was a deafening sound of air being torn. Tomas Moreau looked back and saw the figure of the giant centipede. The next second, the specter's remaining body was hit like a sandbag.

The giant centipede fell heavily to the ground and the damage caused by its enormous weight caused its broken shell to crack even more. This type of attack is definitely not an attack option for this monster, but under the influence of the badge of hatred he has no qualms about using this attack.

Tomas Moreau screamed as a giant centipede wrapped around his remaining body, while drowners and ghouls crawled over him.

These creatures did not distinguish between friend or foe, tearing apart both the giant centipede and the specter. The centipede's shattered entrails spewed out poisonous blood, attacking all nearby creatures indiscriminately.

As soon as Lann saw it, he endured the pain all over his body and rushed towards this direction. He couldn't believe that Tomas Moreau could survive this.

“Ahhhhhh!”

Sure enough, with a scream containing unwillingness and resentment, Tomas Moreau's body once again erupted with fierce green flames.

Suddenly, a blue portal opened above his head.

However, Tomas Moreau, who was entangled, had not yet entered. Instead, some monsters mistakenly entered the portal while jumping.

An opportunity!

The portal opened next to Tomas Moreau, and now he is surrounded by a group of monsters, causing the portal to also be surrounded by monsters.

Lann squeezed out the last of his strength and rushed forward. The portal was suspended in the air. He had no choice but to use the body of the giant centipede to climb up like a runway. There was not much opportunity to roll and dodge in the crowded space.

As he ran, his body was torn apart by the claws of countless monsters, leaving him drenched in blood.

Suddenly, he felt as if two daggers were piercing his thighs. The pain at that moment made him almost fall to the ground. But after the pain came a feeling of numbness, which was not good.

At this moment, his body had jumped into the air and the specter was thrown behind him. The arm that was burning with green flames seemed to want to grab Lann but was dragged back by the creatures.

Lann, in the air, looked back and saw that the specter had only its head left. The silver necklace had fallen to the ground, allowing him to regain the ability to become incorporeal, and escape from the monsters.

Lann showed his right hand, holding a Dimeritium Bomb that he had obtained from Geralt, with the pin already removed.

Being only a head, Tomas Moreau would be unable to cast another spell, much less teleport. In other words, this is his last portal.

"No!!!" The specter let out a piercing scream, but its weakness prevented it from uttering a howl loud enough to hurt Lann's ears. He could only watch helplessly as that individual, who had ruined everything, threw himself into the portal.

A brief dizziness almost made Lann vomit. Upon touching the ground, he felt a tremor in his right hand, the Dimeritium Bomb had already exploded, scattering a cloud of dimeritium splinters into the air.

The portal became distorted in the next moment, and a small explosion was caused by the chaos of magic power. The aftermath caused Lann to roll several times on the ground.

But he felt that he was not in particular pain - this was not right, pain was an important self-protection mechanism for the wounded.

Lann opened his eyes and found that a part of the body of a meter-long giant centipede had fallen from the place where the portal had just closed. Obviously, a part of his body had passed through the portal a moment ago, and now only that part of his body remained.

The problem is that the part of his body that went through the portal is his head, and his dagger-shaped fangs are spraying poison.

Lann looked at the giant centipede's fangs and then at his leg that seemed to have been stabbed with a dagger just now, was now numb and felt nothing.

This was not good!

What was even worse than this was that he heard a sound like a baby crying and several grunts behind him. Lann looked back and saw several drowners and ghouls who had mistakenly entered the portal the moment it opened.

They were all seriously injured and started attacking each other after landing. But there were still one or two who raised their heads and looked at Lann.

That was definitely bad.

He had given Swade his silver lion-headed sword in the previous battle. Lann could only drag his numb legs and stagger to the two cultivation chambers where the Cintra soldiers were and pick up the weapons from the ground.

When Tomas Moreau was possessing his corpse, he was not as meticulous in his work. He only roughly tore apart the soldiers' weapons and armor and threw them everywhere, but this lack of care allowed Lann to recover some useful weapons.

Immediately afterwards, Lann took a large ax and began to smash a glass cultivation chamber. He didn't have much strength now, so it took him several times to break the target.

The Cintra soldier in the cultivation chamber fell to the ground with a thud and the last trace of hope in Lann's heart disappeared. He originally thought that he could awaken these soldiers as helpers, but now he can only rely on himself.

Lann threw away the battle ax and picked up the short sword instead. He could only use this due to his current physical condition.

A drowner snuck around Lann from the wall, jumped onto Lann's back, and bit his shoulder. From the front, another drowner jumped out at the same time and attacked with its claws.

Lann roared and fought with the two creatures.

He had already defeated Tomas Moreau and survived an army of monsters. How could he die in the end at the hands of a drowner!

Blood splashed as claws and sword met in a macabre dance.

But in the room, besides Lann and the monsters, there were other living creatures, watching the combat in the laboratory. One of which was Lann's warhorse, Black Wind.

As an animal, Black Wind is treated differently than humans. He dove into a huge cultivation chamber that was not sealed and did not lose consciousness. Tomas Moreau's petrification magic only immobilized his body.

Tomas Moreau only carried out simple mutation experiments on animals, so it is not necessary to be as sophisticated as with humans, and he does not need to subject them to anesthesia and other processes.

The infusion tubes on Black Wind's back continuously pumped high-concentration mutagenic solutions and various chemicals into his body, affecting his body in a crude and direct way.

This kind of transformation of the body in a short period of time is extremely destructive, and Tomas Moreau probably didn’t want Black Wind to live for too long. But right now, this process is weakening the influence of petrification magic and giving Black Wind a certain degree of mobility.

Could Black Wind protect Lann from these monsters? No, even if he were stronger and smarter than a normal horse, in the end he is still just a horse.

A drowner even jumped on him and bit his butt. Fortunately, Black Wind temporarily lost the sensation of pain due to the mutagenic substances.

But the loyal and protective horse still wants to help his master, just like the time when he risked his life to hit Tomas Moreau.

Just now, Black Wind saw Lann trying his best to split open the cultivation cabin. With the horse’s ability to understand, whatever the owner is trying to do will definitely help him.

The infusion tubes continued to pump mutagenic substances and chemicals into his body. At this moment, her pupils were dilated, the muscles of her body were abnormally stiff and swollen, and bloody saliva flowed uncontrollably from the corners of her mouth.

Immediately afterwards, it crashed into the cultivation tank. The infusion tubes were torn out with force by inertia, and he even knocked down the drowner who was biting his back.

[Crack! Crack! Crack!]

Again and again. The cultivation chambers were constantly shattering, and corpses fell to the ground. The Cintra soldiers who had lost their lives fell to the ground and turned into pieces of meat that were devoured by the ghouls.

All the glass growing chambers were shattered, but there was no one to help Lann.

No... There was still the largest cultivation chamber in the room, made of metal and connected to the largest number of pipes.

The cultivation chamber containing the witcher Jerome Moreau!

Then, Black Wind stood up, as if he was preparing to charge into battle.

[Bang! Crack!]

There was a crisp sound of fractures on the warhorse's body, and the metal casing at the point of impact was surprisingly dented. The huge cultivation chamber rose slightly from the ground in an instant, swayed twice, before falling with a crash.

The door broke, spilling cultivation liquid and allowing air to flow inside.
