Chapter 584: Controlled Or Not?
(From Blue's Perspective)
"It's about your son," Cyan said. He did not say which one, but I knew that very well myself.
"Don't stop. Tell me everything," I said slowly.
I saw Dem shift his shoulders, slightly tensely. I told him about what I thought, but hearing from Cyan would still be a great shock, especially since Cyan might know something more. Besides, Cyan was not even here. It only meant one thing. Words had spread very far.
It was not a good thing.
"Your newborn… Well, as you can see, words are all over out there. I also heard a lot of things," Cyan said. It looked like even he was having a hard time explaining everything. It was not like him. He was the type to blurt everything out. "In short, Azure wants him."
"Not a surprise."
"Sure, but the reason is definitely surprising. He is your son, Blue. You know it too."
"Demian… We don't know anything for sure. He is so little."
"Yeah, he is little, but this little guy seems to have a very unique kind of power," Cyan said.
"He might or might not."
"No, Blue. He does. You can feel it, I know. Because I can feel part of what you can feel. We are twins, after all," he said determinedly. "This power… is dangerous for Azure.
Not just Azure, but the whole world."
"Oh, please, a single person cannot possibly harm the whole world," Dem said.
"Oh? Can you say that about your wife? You have seen part of her power yourself. Does that look like…? Oh, wait, you haven't seen what she did during the war. It was… Anyone could have understood the impact she could have on the whole world.
Her power is dangerous," Cyan said, staring right at Dem. They both were glaring at each other. "Your son's power is more than that. Even more than his mother. And it's not a regular power. Something is very much different, wrong about it."
"Is it because he is the son of a dark mage and an Alpha?" I asked.
"No, not really. It just can happen. Like one in millions. Whether he is lucky or unlucky depends on what kind of power he has. But things are not looking that promising. I doubt your son can call himself lucky."
"Do you suggest anything, Cyan?" I asked because I surely got a sense of some kind of undertone.
"I have an accomplice among Azure's inner circle. I got news that Azure doesn't want to kill your son, but there are people who want to."
"Because they don't want a power like my son's to exist?"
"Exactly. They say it's very dangerous for the world to have something like that."
"Really? What kind of people want to kill a child?" I exclaimed. "That's just sick."
"Especially if it's our child," Dem murmured, but I heard it clearly. He was indicating to something as if it was fine to do it to others' children if they were not ours.
Cyan told me all about he knew about my son's power. It was clear that no one exactly knew what it was. Obviously I would be the first one to know that. If I did not know, then there was no chance for others to know it.
After Cyan left, I sent a letter to Evan. It had been a long time since I talked to him. I heard from him last after giving birth to Demian. He had congratulated me.
He was now a married man, so I had to ask him if he was okay if I sent him letters. Especially if his wife was okay with it.

But it was just a political connection after all. He said it was more than fine.
Dem stood at the window, staring at the rain. It was a sudden rain when the sky overcame with black clouds out of nowhere. Even a while ago, the weather was good. For me, a rainy weather was not bad as long as I was inside.
"We cannot stop until your father is gone," he muttered.
"Not until one of us is gone, Azure or me."
"Not you. Never you," he said, turning to me, as his eyes softened.
"It's a game. A war between him and me. No war is done until one is defeated and one is the winner. This is exactly what will happen with him and me. Both of us will try as hard as ever. Unlike him, although having my son with me, I will never use him in my right mind.
I would rather die," I said.
"You won't die. Don't talk about it. Without even using our son, we will win."
"Why, Dem? There is more chance for him to win. He has more people on his side. I can only hold him back as long as I live. But I might never be able to completely defeat him. He will keep coming back.
Until the end of time."
He did not say anything. What did he even have to say? Nothing.
I looked out the window past him.
"What?"
"It's thundering."
"Yeah, I can hear it," he said.
"I will go out a little."
"What? In this weather? Why?"
"Because your sister is right there, staring right at our room."
Dem and I went downstairs. Perita and her twin brother stood with Dion and Demian. Demian was in her brother's arms, because I could not rely on Perita about it. Besides, Demian cried more when Perita held him. Dion kind of liked Perita these days though.
Dem held the umbrella over our heads as went near Evelyn, who was standing under the rain.
"Evelyn, what's this madness?" Dem asked, almost yelling.
"There are voices…," she mumbled.
"Yes?" I asked. "Voices? What voices, Evelyn?"
"I don't know… I don't know…"
She looked very frail. I did not understand what was going on. Dem looked just as shocked as I was. Both of us just stood there, not knowing what to do.
I was the one who regained my consciousness first.
"Don't stand in the rain, Evelyn. Let us get you inside first," I said, gesturing at Dem to not come with me. He shook his head, and I shook mine harder.
I went under the rain, the cold drops sending chills through my body. I walked to her slowly and touched her arm cautiously. What was I afraid of? I did not know. But something felt unsettling. Was it because I suspected her before?
I was not yet one hundred percent sure about her innocence. But no matter what, I could not just leave her here like this.
She looked at me with her blue eyes, as if she did not know me and was trying to understand who I was.
"Evelyn, we will go inside. Come with me," I said gently.
She nodded.
Dem and I took her inside. Dem shook his head at me constantly to tell me he had no idea what the hell was going on. It meant, even reading her mind was not helping at all.
The maids freshened her up with clean water and dried her body and hair. A new dress was put on her and she was given a mug of hot tea.
"What's the matter now?" Dem asked.
"You can tell us, Evelyn," I said, more gently than Dem. His harsh tone was not helping at all.
Evelyn looked terrified. I could not help pity her.
"I had all sorts of dreams and I heard voices…"
"What voices?" Dem asked.
"I don't know. I don't remember. But I find myself in different place for no reason and I don't remember going there, but I am always sure that when I decided to go there, I had a reason in my mind. I just never can remember after a while."
That sounded a lot like being controlled.
"So, you came to stand under the rain right outside our window for a reason, but you cannot remember that now?" Dem asked.
She nodded. In this way, she looked a lot like Ava, her daughter.
I did not know what to say to Evelyn or what to do about her situation. I tried to look for the black strings around her, but there were none. It was all so odd. If she was being controlled by a dark mage, I could have found that out and even get her free. But there was no black string.
It only meant one thing. She was not being controlled by a dark mage.
Or was she? Was it part of Azure's tricks? What was he planning this time then?
"I think you should take some rest and maybe sleep. Then, we will think about it," I said. "That's the only thing you should do right now. Only worrying won't help anything."
"Blue is right. You should take some rest. Perita will take you to your side palace," Dem said. "Where is Merick by the way?"
"Merick went hunting a while ago. I don't know. Maybe a while ago, or a few hours ago. I'm not sure," Evelyn replied.
"Okay. Perita, take her back and stay there until Lord Merick comes back," I ordered Perita.
