The Werewolf King's Bride

Chapter 454: The Questions

(From Cyan's Perspective)

My twin sister was a weird creature. I was having a hard time understanding how she and I were the same creatures. Not a person in their right mind would cry only because I said her baby kicking her was not something to be excited about. But she cried, and she cried like crazy as if she had never heard something that hurt her more.

But she stopped once she noticed the letter on the table. It looked like she got even dumber now that she was pregnant. Sometimes I wondered how her mind worked.

While she was reading the letter, King Ford aka Evan kept on asking me various things, as if he was making sure I was not a danger. I had no idea how the King and Queen of a kingdom be friends with the King of another kingdom. Blue and King Ford looked quite close and good friends. As for King Demetrius, if he had not trusted King Ford enough, he would have never left his precious wife in his care.

King Ford first interrogated me about how I got through the magic barrier. I explained that quickly because he did not seem to be ready to stop asking until he got his answer. Then, he started talking about Blue, as if he wanted to see if I wanted to harm her.

"Blue once mentioned that her brother helped her escape. Is that true?"

"Don't you trust your own friend?"

"I do."

"Then, why are you asking me?"

"I am just making sure Blue's pregnant mind worked properly when she said this," he said. "When I met her, she told me about her pregnancy. You see, pregnant women sometimes mess things up in their heads. Not all the time though."

"Well, no, she did not mess things up and it was me who helped her," I said.

"I don't think you love your sister enough."

"You know quite a lot of things, it seems," I sneered.

"It's not about knowing. Blue did not tell me this," he said; he was composed and never once showed any sign of discomfort.

"I am quite good at reading people, not to brag. And from what I understand from your attitude and behavior, you almost don't think of her as your sister. She is more like someone who came into your life out of nowhere and you have to act as her brother for the time being. You only helped her because it was of importance to you as well in some way.

The fact that you don't really love her as a brother ought to love his sister is understandable. You both met only a few days ago. It's not possible to love someone, although there are exceptions, in such a short amount of time, regardless of the kind of relationship they have."

"Wow, you are so right that I cannot even think of denying even from one point," I said.

"But, did you have nothing to do when she was being branded?"

"I did. I could have punched one or two people, I could have shouted and I could have done a lot of things," I said. "But to help her, yes, I had something to do. But I did not do it purposefully. First of all, that help would be momentary as she would be branded the next day or a few days later if not that day. Second of all, it would have been a disadvantage for me. And third of all, really, it's not that hard to bear. I have a brand too and I did not die."

"Not dying is not the same as not feeling any pain. You saw her. Did she not look like she was in severe pain?"

The scene of her being branded played in my mind. Yes, she looked like she was in very pain. I almost felt bad for her.

"You really do not have any compassion," he said.

"I did not even say anything. But you are right."

"Alright, it's okay not to have compassion. Just don't hurt her or make things difficult for her," he said. "I believe you won't. However, people cannot be trusted. Just don't be that kind of person. Trust me, the outcome won't be in your favor."

"Oh no, I am so scared!" I mockingly said.

"No, you are mistaken. I am not trying to scare you. It's just… There are too many things that are on the way. None of us wants more people as enemies," he said.

I stared at him, then chuckled. "Tell me again. Why are you helping King Demetrius and the Queen of Querencia."

"Let's say we have a common enemy and a common goal that doesn't harm any of us," he said. "Blue might be the only kind-hearted one among us. In King Demetrius's and my case, we are doing this because we both have advantages. Now, yes, Blue and I are friends. That must be because she is so kind and friendly. That is now another reason I am helping her.

Also, her husband and I made a deal, unbeknownst to her."

The conversation could have gone long but Blue was done with her letter and started inquiring about what we were talking about. Then, the conversation was about wars and kids.

Honestly, I did not care about kids who died in a war. It happened all the time. What was there to care for? Besides, why someone would bother to care for someone who was not useful to them was something I never could or would understand.

Humans and werewolves were hard to care for, and sometimes impossible for me to care at all. How could someone even care for humans and werewolves when there were cats, dogs, and cute animals like that? They were not even half as cute as those little fur babies. I could not imagine saving a werewolf or a human when a cat was in danger as well.
