Chapter 434: Pregnancy Hormones
(From Demetrius's Perspective)
After the meeting, I went to my wife's office to check up on her. She was probably taking some look at the documents and chatting with the duke's children. I told her many times to not care about work, but she still did it. I did not want her to stress herself out. Moreover, she was pregnant.
The sight that I saw right after entering was not something I expected.
"Why are you crying?" I asked angrily. "Who made you cry?"
"Was it you two?" I asked her knights. "You two made her cry?!"
"No, I mean…," Calix mumbled.
"It was these two, Your Majesty," the duke's son, Abel, said. "They kept apologizing and Her Majesty got upset about it."
"Damn, you idiots!" I muttered angrily and cupped my wife's face. "Darling, what happened?"
"It's not… them…," she sniffled. "I just… I don't know… It's just… not them…"
The duke's daughter was holding Blue's hands. "Go to your father, you two. Calix, take them to the library. The duke is there. And Perita, go back. I am with her now."
Calix and Perita bowed and led the kids out. Abel kept on saying that they were the ones at fault and made my wife cry, but I knew just by reading their minds actually what happened.
"Honey, look at me," I said. "Why are you crying?"
"I… I don't know…," she sobbed. "I don't know…"
"Come here. Show me your face," I said.
She removed her hands from her face. Her eyes were red as well as her cheeks and ears. Her lips looked swollen as they always did when she cried.

"Do you not know why you are crying?" I asked.
"No!" she said and started crying loudly now.
"There, there," I said, patting her gently. "Do you want me to hug you?"
I was not sure if I should hug her without permission or not, especially when she was crying. What if she started crying even more? Besides, she was crying for a very unsignificant reason. There was a possibility it was her pregnancy hormones.
"Yeah…"
As I got her permission, I wrapped my arms around her. The papers were all scattered in front of her on the table. She was going through them even just a while ago.
"Let's go to your room, shall we?"
"No… The papers…"
"That's alright. I will take care of them," I said.
"R-Really…? But… I don't wanna bother you…"
"It's fine. Just leave them, sweetie. Let me take you to our room."
I picked her up and went to our bedroom. Her hair was in a bun and the bite mark on the side of her neck was in full view, although someone needed to look too closely to see it properly. Although she was pregnant, we still did not stop our nighttime routine. I was always up for sex since the moment we got married. It was her who I needed to be considerate of. My wife was too frail, at least in my eyes.
Besides, she was way too thin. I was worried I would end up hurting her.
But she was just as eager as me to have sex and would not mind if we went for three or more rounds. And giving each other marks on our bodies was just as significant as the main act.
I placed her on the bed gently. "I'm sorry…"
"For what?"
"For… crying," she said. "I did not… want to… I don't even know why… I cried. It kind of…"
"It can happen. No one is blaming you," I said.
"I must have… made Calix and Perita… feel bad…"
"It's alright. They are not sad about it, dear," I said. Besides, it did not matter even if they were sad or whatever. They deserved it anyway.
"Are you… sure?"
"Yes, I am. You can ask them later."
"I even… cried in front of the kids…," she said. "What would they… think of it?"
"Don't worry about it. They are smart kids. They will understand," I said.
"Will they…?"
"Yeah, they will," I said, wiping her tears. "If you want to cry, it's alright to cry. You don't need to think about anyone or anything else. Just do what you feel like."
"That's being… selfish…," she said. "I should… control my emotions… I have no idea what happened t-today… that I became so emotional…"
"Well, it can happen."
"It can? You don't… cry all of a sudden?"
"Technically, I almost don't cry at all," I said, "if it's not about you."
The last time I cried was after she came back. When I brought her to the mansion, I cried for quite a while, hugging her because I was still not sure if I was dreaming or not. Everything felt unreal. I was happy and angry at the same time.
"Then, how can… it be normal?"
"I mean…"
"Are you saying I am being… emotional because I'm pregnant?"
"No, I don't mean that," I said. "What I mean is…"
"So, I am annoying all… the time?"
"When did I say that? I don't mean any of it, honey. Don't twist my words like that," I said. "Wait, wait… I'm not angry. I just am saying that…"
She looked on the verge of tears again. I was feeling guilty now. Did I say something wrong? I heard sometimes pregnant women was a little hard to deal with because of their hormones, but I never thought I would have to face the same situation. Besides, it had been only a week.
"Honey, are you hungry?" I asked.
"… Am I?"
"You are," I said. "Let me call the maids, so you can eat something, okay?"
My plan worked. Perhaps she truly was hungry since she calmed down right after having some soup and bread. She did not like red food or drink, so I told the cook and the maids to avoid red food at all costs. Because of it, I also did not drink red wine in front of her.
My smoking had increased when she was missing. I would smoke two to three times a day which was quite a lot than usual when I usually smoked once or twice a month. But I stopped smoking right after finding out she was pregnant since it was not okay to smoke in front of pregnant women.
But the situation with her intense emotions got worse after just a few weeks. It had been five weeks of her pregnancy. I had been with her as much as possible because I was worried she might disappear again. There was a chance of a war against Mazazine regarding a rumor that I had killed the first prince. The weird fact was that I had no idea what they were talking about.
I was busy with my pregnant wife and had no time for shit like that, but the King sent me a letter that he had proof that I did it.
'That damn bastard!'
I tried to make sure there was no war and was still trying to negotiate and prove that it was not me who did it. Someone was trying to make me the villain for no reason. Or, maybe they had a reason, but since I had no idea who the person was, I did not know the reason.
Even after all of this, I tried to be with my wife as much as possible. She needed my support more than anyone else.
"Hmm…"
"What?" I asked, seeing her not eating her bread and butter. She wanted to have bread and butter in the middle of the night.
"What are you thinking about?" she asked.
Her voice had gotten almost as perfect as before. She still had a bit of difficulty, but not always.
"Just this and that… Want me to put butter on your bread?"
"I can do that… But it seems like you are hiding something from me," she said, looking suspiciously at me.
"What do you mean?"
"Is it a woman?"
"… I don't like being suspected for something I have not done or I would never do," I said.
"I'm not suspecting you…"
"That is exactly what you are doing. I am always right in front of your fucking eyes, Blue! You don't have the right to even mention something like that to me!"
She stared at me, directly into my eyes. "You… You suspect me every damn time, Dem! I don't yell at you! But when I say this just once, you get mad at me?! You think you have the right to do so?!"
Right after saying that, she started crying. I should not have lost my temper. I probably needed a bit of rest.
"I'm sorry. I'm really sorry…," I quickly apologized. This time, it was indeed my fault.
It was true I kept asking her if she liked another guy, but I never thought of how I would feel if I was in her place.
