The Werewolf King's Bride

Chapter 418: First Mission Successful

(From Blue's Perspective)

"Haa… I can't breathe…," I gasped, my palms stretched forward, towards the door. The place was filled with black smoke, and from my palms, there went thousands of black strings, looking like a wave of blackness together.

"Keep going," Azure commanded.

I felt like my heart was being cut open with a sharp knife. If I stopped, all the progress would be in vain. I needed to do it at once. But I could not go forward at all. It was painful.

"Keep going. You are not giving your all," Azure said. "You are more powerful that that. What's this? What are you doing? Keep on giving your best."

"I am!" I yelled, clenching my teeth.

"You have no idea how powerful you are! Give it your best! Go on! Believe it yourself that you are more powerful than anyone!"

"I can't do this! It hurts!" I yelled. "Ugh!"

A sudden pain hit my back, like an arrow. I fell, unable to balance myself. The pain spread throughout my body. I was dying.

A dying man, no matter in what circumstances he was, would do anything to protect himself. I was no different. I gave my all, no, my body gave my all. As if like an automatic response, I felt my body pushing it to my limit, trying one last time to save myself. And then, it happened.

Everything became black, pitch black. With a pin-drop silence, the blackness covered the door, and just as quickly as the silence came, there was an explosion, blinding me with the golden light.

When my sight became normal again, there was nothing that resembled a door anymore. In the place of the door, there was the tree, the same tree that was hiding the door. But this time, it was hiding nothing. Everything was in full view.

Only two doors leading to the other world were left.

I could not get up. I could not see anything else, other than the tree in front of me. I could not even think of anything. It was like I had lost my senses. I wanted to sleep and eat only. I was hungry.

"You did it! Good job, my daughter! I am proud of you!" Azure exclaimed, cupping my face.

"Hah…," I breathed out painfully.

*cough*

Even coughing was painful. It was as if my throat was tearing apart from the inside.

Azure got up excitedly and walked around the place to make sure I did the job well. I had no strength in my body.

Someone touched my arm gently. His cold hand made me shiver. My body was too weak to even react.

"Father, let us take her back. She is…"

"Tsk, if she falls weak just by this…," Azure said disappointedly.

"She is weak physically. She hasn't been eating," Cyan said. "We need to take her back. Or, it will be something serious. She is not immortal."

"Well, she can't be immortal."

"She is not even half mortal… yet," Cyan said. "She is a mortal being. She will die."

'I will die?' the words echoed in my head as blackness filled my vision, only voices came through. 'But, what about my promised life with Dem? What about us having kids? What about my desired fantasy? I can't get that?'

"Just sleep," Cyan whispered to me.

I listened to him as it seemed to be the best decision, although I would not call it sleeping. It was more like losing consciousness. It surely was what I thought, not what I wished it to be.

My unconsciousness took me inside a dream, to escape the cruel reality. The dream was beautiful. It was something I did not wish to talk about, fearing it would not come true if someone found out about it.

When I woke up, I was in a dimly lit room. Before I could catch my breath, I was welcomed with a spoon, right in front of my face.

"Wha…?"
Your journey continues at empire

I could not finish as I felt a sharp pain in my throat. I held my throat with both of my hands. This pain was different than the one I had for the first few days of my pregnancy. This pain looked like it would not go away for a while.

"I…"

'It hurts. Why is my throat hurting so much? It pains me just to pronounce a single letter… Why is it happening?'

"You can't talk? How surprising," Cyan said, as unsurprisingly as possible. "Father hit you with his power because you were not letting out your power properly."

What did he mean I was not letting out? I was trying my best. I was not god. How would I do something perfectly just on the first try?

"Well, thanks to that, you could do it properly. I didn't know you were that incompetent," he said, "but I didn't expect someone to be able to use their power properly and also to that extent on the first try. It's basically impossible. Because Azure hit you, you were in pain which awakened your subconsciousness to save yourself, causing you to let out your power in a mighty form.

But I think it took too much power out of you, way more than necessary. You know what happens to mages when they use too much power?"

Well, if mages used too much power, they would get exhausted. They would need to rest and sometimes, use potions to get their stamina back and normalize their mana flow.

"They will get exhausted," he said. "But what if they use too much power?"

I stared at him. The answer was obvious. If a mage used way more power than his body could handle, it would lead to their death. Was I on the verge of death at that time?

"Our plan won't work if you remain unconscious for a long time. So, I used a few things I made on you. It worked," he said.

"What… did…?"

"Don't talk. Your throat will take a while to get better. And you don't need to know what I used. It worked and that's all matters," he said. "I woke you up, so you could destroy the two other doors. Or, our plan is going to be ruined."

I stared at him and the spoon that was still in front of me. "Don't worry, I won't let you die."

He shoved the empty smooth into my mouth the moment I opened my lips to speak, forgetting his warning to not speak. Something felt bitter in my mouth.

"It's a medicine. When you can't even eat something, have this. It will increase your stamina quite rapidly and restore your mana. I mean, it will just accelerate the process, not do it immediately," he said and took a look at his wristwatch. "You are almost done. Your mana is almost restored, I mean.

I have been feeding you this medicine for a long time now, after all."

I could not believe him. Whatever I was hearing made me think that he was lying. What if he was trying to kill me because he was jealous of my power?

Whatever it was, I was sure of one thing; my mind was not working properly. Was it because of the pain? Or, because of the stress? I was not sure, but I was thinking of weird things, and taking weird steps.

"Sleep now. Tomorrow morning, we will go on the second mission. If you can't use your power properly again tomorrow, Father will use the same technique."

'He will hit me…'

Cyan left. How could I believe a person like him who kept way too many secrets? He did not even tell me correctly what kind of medicine he was feeding me. A clear-looking medicine that restored someone's stamina? How absurd…!

I slowly got down from the bed. Tonight, no one guarded me, at least, there was no one in the room. Just when my feet touched the cold ground and I tried to stand up, I realized how weak my body was. My knees gave away and I fell to the ground. If it was not for my subconsciousness to hold the side table, I would have fallen way harder than I did and hurt my face straight forward.

The floor was even harder than the floor of the palace. I found that out the hard way. I pulled my body onto the floor using my legs and butt. My bleeding knees reminded me of the time when I had fallen from stairs at the age of six. It was quite a hard fall. I fell on Max, so I did not hurt my head, which he did, but hurt my knees instead.

Max had noticed I was falling, so he went there to catch me, forgetting he was small as well.

Beside the bed, I found the gown I had been wearing. It had blood on the chest area. When I coughed that time, I felt like I was dying. Now I knew why. I coughed up blood after all.
