The Weapon Master Shall Never Die Bare-Handed in Genshin Impact

Chapter 4: The Weapon Master Shall Never Die Bare-Handed in Genshin Impact [4]

The weight of the massive axe didn't hinder Jia Changjiang in the slightest. With a single sweeping motion of the heavy axe's back, he sent several Hilichurls flying.

He could almost hear the faint crack of bones snapping as the creatures were hurled a considerable distance before crashing heavily onto the grass.

For the moment, they lay there, unable to get up.

The sheer satisfaction of swinging the colossal weapon and smashing through opposition lit a spark of excitement in Jia Changjiang's heart.

"Now it's just you left… Big Hilichurl!"

He turned to face the towering Mitachurl, its mane bristling in anger. Crooking a finger, he taunted it.

"Come on... let's see what you've got!"

"Fight, fight, fight!"

Without waiting, Jia Changjiang charged straight at the enraged brute.

---

About ten minutes later, after Jia Changjiang had moved on, a white-haired boy tumbled down the very same hill he had been standing on.

"Ahh—ow!"

The boy had accidentally stepped on loose soil at the hill's peak and lost his footing, rolling all the way down.

Clutching a one-handed sword, his head adorned with a pair of goggles, and his body wrapped in bandages, he was clearly someone who often got injured.

Yet, despite the steep tumble, the boy climbed to his feet, brushing himself off as if it were nothing—a testament to his resilience and familiarity with such incidents.

This was Bennett, Mondstadt's famously unlucky adventurer. A boy so accustomed to calamity that even the rarest of disasters were just another Tuesday for him.

"Am I already at the commission site?"

Bennett glanced around, realizing he had arrived at the location specified by the Adventurers' Guild for clearing out a Hilichurl camp.

But when he looked ahead, he froze.

"Where's the camp?"

What stood before him was not a camp but its remnants.

The temporary shelters the Hilichurls had built were violently split in two, as if a storm of raw power had swept through and torn everything apart.

"What... what happened here?"

Bennett scratched the back of his head, utterly baffled.

"Did someone complete the commission before me again?"

---

Meanwhile, Jia Changjiang, having left the camp far behind, slung his massive Eikathos Axe over his shoulder and trudged westward, the setting sun painting the plains in hues of gold and orange.

"Achoo!"

He sneezed suddenly, pausing mid-step.

"Why am I sneezing? Am I catching a cold? Great... and I didn't bring cold medicine when I transmigrated."

Rubbing his nose, he resumed his march westward.

Jia Changjiang didn't know how long it would take to find civilization, but surely walking in one direction would lead somewhere, right?

Besides...

If he remembered correctly, Mondstadt lay westward. West of Mondstadt were Wolvendom and Brightcrown Canyon, while the plains stretched eastward.

Since he was currently on a plain, heading west seemed like the best bet to find people.

Buoyed by this logic, Jia Changjiang walked onward with determination.

What he didn't realize, however, was that his path had miraculously avoided every village and settlement in the area. As a result, his slow, meandering journey toward Mondstadt continued uninterrupted.

---

Two days later, outside Mondstadt…

A weary figure appeared near the city, dragging his feet.

It was Jia Changjiang, utterly exhausted after two days of wandering in the wilderness.

When he finally spotted Mondstadt—a grand city nestled in the middle of a vast lake—his eyes welled up with tears.

"Two days! Two days of living like a savage!"

He had finally made it.

Dragging his enormous axe, Jia Changjiang staggered toward Mondstadt, his gaze fixed on the city's towering spires.

But after only a few steps, his foot slipped on an apple lying on the ground.

He saw nothing but darkness as he tumbled forward, collapsing with his axe landing heavily beside him.

---

Unbeknownst to Jia Changjiang, he had fallen next to a freshly set cooking pot.

Not long after, a girl in a green Adventurers' Guild uniform with two braided pigtails came humming a tune as she carried an armful of foraged ingredients.

This was Lynn, Mondstadt's Survival Expert, cheerfully thriving in the wild as always.

But the sight that greeted her upon returning made her gasp.

A man, dirty and bedraggled, lay sprawled beside her pot. His left hand was faintly pointing forward, as if trying to reach something even in unconsciousness.

Startled, Lynn nearly dropped her ingredients.

Cautiously setting them down, she picked up a stick and poked the figure on the ground, wondering if he might be... a corpse.

The answer came swiftly as the sound of deep, rhythmic snoring escaped the man's mouth.

"Oh, he's just asleep… Did he faint from hunger?"

Lynn crouched down, examining the stranger. Then she glanced at her pot and made a decision.

Grabbing his arm, she began dragging him toward a makeshift resting spot.

---

"Ah?!"

Jia Changjiang jolted awake from his deep slumber. His vision swam for a moment, but instead of a ceiling, he saw a glittering canopy of stars overhead.

"You're awake! Want some food?"

A cheerful voice greeted him.

Jia Changjiang turned to see a girl smiling at him.

His body was covered with a blanket, and the ground beneath him was padded with dry grass.

"What... what's going on?" he asked groggily.

"I should be asking you that. You collapsed right next to my pot!" Lynn replied.

"I was just planning to make a quick meal, but since I couldn't move you or that massive weapon of yours, I decided to set up camp here instead."

She handed him a bowl of soup, her warm demeanor cutting through his confusion.

"Here, try my cabbage and mushroom soup!"

"You're pretty dirty, and your outfit is unique. Are you a traveler from far away?" Lynn asked curiously.

Jia Changjiang accepted the bowl, staring at it in a daze before sighing.

"I've been walking for two days, running into Hilichurls and slimes constantly. I didn't get a wink of sleep. Then I saw Mondstadt and got so excited that I must've just... passed out."

Lynn shook her head disapprovingly.

"That's not how you survive in the wild! You have to manage your stamina, energy, body temperature, and overall condition!"

But then she smiled reassuringly.

"Don't worry, though. Mondstadt isn't far from here. Let's rest up tonight, and tomorrow, I'll take you there."
