Chapter 718: Chapters 39 Spray
" Enemies detected! Engaging in hostile fire!"
The android fired at the incoming face-huggers while Lincoln and his teammates made it to the nearest safe zone, reloading their guns and weapons before fighting again. Perhaps, if they had their plasma weapons, things might have gone better but there was no if in the mission.
" At this rate, we are going to run out of ammo in just 10 minutes. How long do we have to go now?"
Caitlyn pulled out her device, looking at the map with a frown on her face as she knew they had plenty of distance toward the entry. Besides, other teams were going to find them soon, so they had to hold off until then.
On contrary, Deadlock wasn't optimistic about the situation, thinking these creatures were too many and too fast for them. Even androids were struggling to keep with them and they had vicious blood that melted metal like it was nothing.
" We have to destroy this whole damn cave before these monsters came loose to our world. I don't think we could protect ourselves from them if they went to the urban zone."
Lincoln recalled the vampire incident back in NYC where contagion went too fast compared to their calculations and made the entire city into a vampire if it wasn't Arthur and Blade who stopped them with Nyssa who was the current leader of the American Vampire Council.
" We don't know about their bodies fully and we don't know if they have some sort of defensive mechanics, but we do know they are nest-type of creatures which means they will spread fast."
Chris briefly explained their situation to them through the communication device while mentioning some discoveries that they had made during the exploration.
Most of them weren't good news as each piece of it dropped their hearts into the frozen solid abyss of despair.
" How the hell are we supposed to get out of here? Shouldn't you guys ask for big guns?"
Marcus's face was filled with the anguish of death which was worse than dying in his bed. He believed dying here was worse than dying on the battlefield because he heard these things use humans to incubate their babies which would have the genetics of their parent, meaning heroes would make it even stronger if they got captured.
" Unfortunately, we can't attract any more attention to this place and we can't risk their lives or the climate of the region because we found this place is connected to the center of the continent."
The intern cavern system was linked to the core of the pole which made it a highly dangerous area for bombing. Especially when super-powered individuals use their powers, their damage would be greater or equal to carpet bombing.
Although they planted bombs on the entrance to seal the caves off from the maintain, it was far enough to damage the center.
" Roger that. Please come quickly. Our ammunition is running low."
Chris nodded with a solemn face from the other side while signaling Choi and others to hasten. In front of them, countless corpses of the face huggers were laying on the floor dead.
The blood of the creatures burned the ice but thankfully, water enough dissolved this acid in large amounts which kind of neutralized their threat.
" The big creatures are a problem. Did you scan the corpse of that agent and soldier?"
Choi handed the device to Chris whose face turned bitter at the results. His calculations were indeed right and these creatures were impregnating the host body to hatch out the big creatures which were deadly in close combat.
" Armor piercing rounds were effective against them but normal rounds were useless. Moreover, we don't have many rounds against them."
Chris silently counted the rounds inside his head, including the rounds that androids had in their guns.
" For now, we have to prepare for the worst. If any of you are injured in the action, you might die here."
From now on, the casualty was on their heads and he was in no position to save them if they were injured for his goal differed from the starting point.
" Those who have less ammo and slight injury leave the area and give the remaining ammo to us."
Choi also decided to agree with his decision.
