Chapter 28: Chapter 28: The State of the Three Parties
Soon, Peter's attention was drawn to the massive machine in the laboratory.
Otto introduced it from the side:
"Impressive, isn't it? This is the machine that achieves and sustains nuclear fusion."
"You can also think of it as controlled nuclear fusion."
Peter walked toward the machine.
"You're using the harmonic frequency of atoms, essentially their resonant frequency, to enhance the fusion effect and generate immense energy—limitless energy."
Otto couldn't help but look at Peter with newfound respect. He had expected Peter to be a good student, but he hadn't anticipated such genius.
The physics knowledge involved in this research was far beyond what a high school student should know.
Yet Peter not only understood it but could also explain the principles.
Otto was thoroughly impressed by the young man.
"Peter, you've truly opened my eyes. At your age, while I was also at the top of my class, my knowledge was nowhere near yours."
"You're too modest, Doctor."
Otto looked at the machine before him.
His eyes shone with hope:
"Once the experiment succeeds, we'll harness an endless source of energy, like the sun!"
"At that time, it will undoubtedly benefit humanity. With infinite energy, we can prevent countless wars!"
Before long, it was time for lunch.
Otto invited Peter to join him.
Peter felt he should still offer a word of caution to Otto.
Someone like him shouldn't become a villain.
"Excuse me, Doctor, do you think the nuclear reaction can be stabilized?"
"What do you think I've been talking about for the past hour and a half?"
"This is my life's work!"
After saying this, Otto joked to his wife.
"This young friend thinks I'm going to blow up all of New York!"
Rosie handed Peter a cup of coffee.
With a smile, she said:
"His research is flawless. You'll see for yourself when you come to watch the experiment tomorrow."
She then shifted the topic, asking Peter:
"Let's talk about you, young man. Do you have a girlfriend?"
"Uh..."
Was the topic change really this abrupt?
...
Meanwhile, in Osborn's office.
"Enough!! Enough!!!!"
Norman Osborn stood shirtless, his pale and sickly thin body reflected in the mirror.
His face was filled with sorrow.
It was as if he was pleading with his reflection.
"Please, please, we've already hurt so many people. We can't keep going!!"
"Shut up!"
The Green Goblin in the mirror wore a grim expression.
"Do you really want to give all this up—fame, wealth?"
"You saw it too, didn't you? Peter's young, strong body."
"If you get Spider-Woman's blood, you can be healthy again!"
"Think about Harry, think about our son. He's so young. He needs to live!!"
"Shut up!!"
Osborn let out a nearly collapse roar. When he finally exhausted himself, his expression changed completely, becoming twisted and terrifying.
"If Spider-Woman won't come out, then we'll force her out!!!"
With that, he let out a maniacal laugh.
...
At the same time, on the other side of the city.
In front of the police station, two individuals were hanging, wrapped in spider silk.
There was no doubt—this was Spider-Woman's handiwork.
Over the past month, such incidents had become frequent.
Every person Spider-Woman brought in was, without exception, a criminal.
Meanwhile, in a luxurious estate.
A man in a white suit, noticeably obese, sat on a lounge chair in front of a villa.
He held a cigar between his fingers.
This massive man, weighing 350 pounds with only 2% body fat, was named Wilson Fisk.
While his name might seem ordinary, his other title struck fear into the hearts of New York's underworld.
Kingpin.
Unlike other crime bosses, he didn't need an army of bodyguards.
Due to his childhood experiences, he had trained in various forms of combat, and his strength reached the peak of human capability.
At the very least, punching through a concrete wall was no challenge for him.
Kingpin puffed on his cigar while scrolling through photos on his phone.
They were pictures of his late wife and daughter.
Coming back from the dead wasn't realistic, but parallel universes? That was science.
For years, he had collaborated with scientists to open the door to parallel universes.
When that day came, he would surely see his wife and daughter again.
As Kingpin lost himself in thought, a subordinate rushed over.
"Kingpin! Damn it! Our operations are being disrupted again. It's that Punisher and Spider-Woman causing trouble!!"
"With them around, our business is taking a huge hit!"
"Be patient." As the kingpin of the underworld, Kingpin rarely showed his emotions.
"I've already figured out how to deal with them."
As soon as he finished speaking!
A massive gust of wind swept down from above, rippling across the estate's lawn.
The roar of a huge machine filled the air.
A man wearing a bird-like mask landed on the grass.
He removed the mask, revealing the grim face of a middle-aged man.
Kingpin gave a slight nod.
"Let me introduce you. This is Mr. Adrian Toomes, a former electrical engineer."
"Though I believe he prefers his new name."
"The Vulture!"
