The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide

Chapter 3: My First Love

Iris Pestelows. She’s my fiancée and the one most connected to my deaths.

Why, you ask? Because my rewinds began on the day I got engaged to her, marking the start of my repeated life.

In my first life, when I had no clue about rewinding, I fell in love with her the day I was introduced to her as my fiancée.

With her shimmering golden hair and crystal-clear blue eyes that seemed to capture the sky, even as a child, her beauty was undeniably that of a true beauty, and like many, I fell head over heels for her at first sight.

But lacking any experience in romance, I had no idea how to interact with the one I liked. I acted cold, strutted around, and at my worst, even bullied her.

This awkward relationship continued until we entered the academy, and on the day of the entrance ceremony, I was still picking on her.

That’s when the commoner protagonist stepped in, telling me to cut it out and shielding Iris from my bullying by standing in front of me.

I couldn’t stand that protagonist and challenged him to a duel, but I lost spectacularly, and as a result, Iris grew close to him and fell in love.

Unable to accept that the one I liked had developed feelings for someone else, I turned my ire towards Iris and attempted to harm that protagonist multiple times.

However, everything I did only served to stoke their feelings for each other and became nothing more than a stepping stone for the protagonist to grow stronger.

In the end, all my schemes to harm the protagonist were revealed, and when I challenged him one last time, my head was effortlessly severed from my body, leading to my death.

In my next life, I was bewildered and confused about why I had revived, but thinking it was a chance to redo things, I decided to treat her kindly this time.

I prepared gifts for her every time we met, went out together, and offered my help whenever she was in a bind.

Thanks to my efforts, there was no chance for Iris to meet the protagonist on the entrance ceremony day, and I was overjoyed thinking that at last, I would be united with Iris.

However, on the day Iris found herself in trouble, the protagonist just happened to be nearby and ended up rescuing her.

That day, I was unable to be with Iris due to family obligations.

Thus, this event triggered Iris to fall for him again, leaving me behind.

It appeared that to her, I was merely a strategic marriage partner and remained stuck in the role of a nice guy without any romantic allure.

As if to add insult to injury, I was wrongfully accused of something I didn’t do and executed without a clear understanding of what happened.

In my third life, I had decidedly grown distant from Iris and no longer cared for her presence.

I aimed to avoid her, refrain from talking to her, and kept my distance entirely.

But suddenly, one day, my consciousness faded.

When I next awakened, I found myself facing the protagonist, Iris, and his companions, all of whom had swords and magic directed at me. I was in a battered state.

Confused, I attempted to grasp the situation, but my throat felt scorched and I could only emit low groans.

In my last moments, I was told, “If you die, there will be peace,” before a sword pierced my heart, ending my life.

Afterwards, various events transpired, and I was killed several times for a multitude of reasons, but the origin of it all always traced back to my encounters with Iris, making her someone I never wanted to see again.

(She’s like a Grim Reaper at this point. Seriously, the first time in the third life was just utterly confusing.)

I eventually understood why things had spiraled out of control after experiencing similar situations repeatedly, but for now, I’ll save that story.

Now, that Grim Reaper of mine and I had just finished a stroll in the garden and were heading back to the mansion.

I didn’t have any plans after this, but doing nothing didn’t seem right, so I ended up in a different reception room than the one where we first met, enjoying tea.

Milía was serving, but with these two present, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I might get killed at any moment.

(Well, if I die, I die. Whatever.)

At this point, I had little interest in living, so if I were to die, that wasn’t so bad either. In fact, I’d almost prefer to slip into eternal sleep sooner rather than later.

As I pondered such thoughts while sipping the lemon tea brewed by Milía, its refreshing flavor struck me as quite delicious.

Milía seemed a bit worried about the lack of conversation between us, but for me, this silence was blissful, so I hoped she wouldn’t think too much about it.

“This is delicious, Lord Valentine.”

However, Iris didn’t seem to share that sentiment; after taking a sip of her lemon tea, she smiled and began to speak.

By the way, though we’re engaged, I never gave her permission to call me by my first name, so she addressed me by my family name instead.

“Indeed, Lady Pestelows.”

After showing some vague agreement, I used magic to levitate a nearby book and opened it to start reading.

This was my way of saying “Don’t bother me anymore.”

“Your magic is quite impressive. As expected of the prodigy, Lord Lewis Valentine.”

But once again, Iris, completely oblivious to the mood, started talking about magic while she touched it.

“Thank you.”

(Why does she keep talking to me? How annoying.)

No matter how bothersome it was, I couldn’t ignore her here; I simply offered a courteous reply to avoid word getting back to my father and mother via Milía.

(Aaah, I wish they would just leave already.)

Grumbling that thought in my head, I flipped through the pages of the book I had randomly taken.

I learned about my father’s friendship with the Pestelows Marquis from the very first life.

Even though these two were such good friends, one thing that never changed through each life was how they would end up drinking during the day and not returning home.

Apparently, they were both thrilled that their children were engaged, and no matter how many lives changed, they partied hard.

“Don’t they realize how foolish they are?”

Once I returned to my room alone, I took off my jacket and lay down on the bed.

“Ugh. I think everyone is having dinner together soon. I’m too tired; I should fake being sick and rest.”

I genuinely didn’t want to see Iris anymore, and having already achieved my purpose by just meeting her the first time, I didn’t see a reason to force myself to meet her again.

With that decision made, I rang for Milía, informing her that I was feeling unwell and planned to sleep.

Later that night, when the mansion had quieted down, I woke up. Well, maybe my father was still drinking, but at least Iris would be asleep.

“I’m hungry.”

Since I had skipped dinner by faking an illness, my stomach, being in its growth phase, was growling with hunger.

“It’d be nice to call one of the maids, but if possible, I’d rather eat outside.”

Noble food is good and all, but I also enjoyed the heavily seasoned dishes sold outside.

“Alright, let’s go!”

Having made up my mind to eat outside, I changed into a plain outfit, magically changed my hair and eye color for safety, and threw on a robe before heading to the window.

“Fly!”

As I opened the window and cast the wind-based flying magic, a gentle breeze lifted my body, carrying me into the air.

“Alright, off we go!”

Thus, I took to the skies, heading into the night without anyone noticing.
