Chapter 2: The Destiny Heroine Breaks the Engagement:
After finishing their meal, the maids floated above the meeting hall’s gate.
Ji Bachang gazed ahead and saw a massive golden hall stretching across a vast floating island. The enormous hall, occupying an island spanning hundreds of kilometers, was luxurious beyond measure.
Mysterious runes, powerful chains of magic, a captured five-clawed dragon, and an ancient phoenix circled the hall, radiating immense power. This was the Soul Heaven Palace, a place where its deep heritage was evident everywhere. Ji Bachang knew this hall was one of the simpler ones among many. It wasn’t even a fraction of the true grandeur this palace could offer.
Feeling satisfied, Ji Bachang thought, “Reincarnation is like technology—you either master it or you don’t bother. Once you’re here, it’s all about enjoyment.”
“Young Master, should we go down?” asked one of the maids, unsure of what to do without his command.
Ji Bachang replied lazily, “Wait a moment. I just ate too much. I need a nap to let it settle.” Yawning, he rolled over and fell asleep on the soft lap of a maid. Soon, the sky cleared, leaving the clouds behind.
Suddenly, a burst of rainbow light, filled with the powerful breath of chaos, pierced through the boundary of this world, coming from another Great World. It was a flying chariot, eight meters wide and over ten meters long. The bottom of the chariot was adorned with purple jade dragon symbols, while its windows were framed with blue Dragon Pearls. Its exquisite decoration clearly signaled the extraordinary status of its occupants.
Ji Bachang glanced at the chariot and instantly recognized it.
His fiancée, Nalan Ruoxi, was inside. She was from one of the ancient clans in the Great Thousand World—the daughter of the Nalan clan, and also the childhood sweetheart of Ye Hao, the “Son of Destiny.”
If this had been the old Ji Bachang, he would have eagerly rushed out to greet her. But now, he felt differently. He believed a man must respect himself. To him, a woman of such status was almost like a servant. Why should he show her any special attention? With that thought, Ji Bachang resumed his nap.
“Princess, the prince of Soul Heaven Palace, Ji Bachang, is resting in front of us. Should we greet him?” The Nalan warrior, who was driving the chariot, asked respectfully.
“Him?” Nalan Ruoxi, sitting cross-legged inside the chariot, had a cold expression. Her jade-like complexion glowed like the crescent moon. Surrounding her were luxurious and delicate decorations, highlighting her grace and beauty.
She pulled back the curtain, revealing Ji Bachang napping on the laps of several maids. Her eyebrows furrowed, and a hint of disdain crossed her face. “No need. We’re here to see the Master of the Soul Heaven Palace. I’ve come to break my engagement with Ji Bachang. I don’t think we need his opinion. Let the Soul Heaven Palace handle it.”
“This… as you wish, Princess. I’ll go knock on the gate.” The driver responded.
Nalan Ruyue, Nalan Ruoxi’s aunt, was with her. Her skin was fairer than snow, her eyes deep and dark like polished jade, and her features elegant and refined. Yet despite her beauty, Nalan Ruyue looked anxious.
While Nalan Ruoxi might be naïve, Nalan Ruyue fully understood the gravity of their situation. The Nalan clan’s current standing in the world was largely due to the protection of Soul Heaven Palace, and this protection existed because of the engagement between Ji Bachang and Nalan Ruoxi. If this engagement were to be broken, it would be disastrous for their clan.
But Nalan Ruoxi was insistent.
She had threatened to commit suicide on the day of the wedding if the engagement wasn’t called off. The Nalan clan couldn’t afford to embarrass the Soul Heaven Palace.
If they did, the clan might cease to exist. Left with no choice, they agreed to Nalan Ruoxi’s demands.
Now, it was Nalan Ruyue’s burden to apologize and explain that it wasn’t the Nalan clan who wanted to end the engagement, but Nalan Ruoxi herself.
As they arrived at the grand bronze gate of the meeting hall, Nalan Ruyue stepped forward cautiously, bowing with her hands cupped together.
“Nalan Ruyue of the Nalan clan humbly greets the Master of the Soul Heaven Palace. We ask for your permission to enter.”
A loud rumbling echoed as the formation began to open, and the ancient bronze gate, towering over ten thousand meters, slowly creaked apart. Golden light streamed through the opening, bathing the entrance in a sacred glow.
Two enormous spirit warriors, each standing a thousand meters tall and clad in black armor, their muscles bulging, pushed the door open. One of the warriors glanced down at Nalan Ruyue, who was still kneeling, and spoke in a booming voice.
“Messenger of the Nalan clan, you may enter!”
“Thank you, gatekeeper!” Nalan Ruyue replied gratefully, signaling the chariot to approach. The chariot began to move forward, its Spiritual Qi formation glowing as it prepared to enter the hall.
“How dare you! Entering the Great Hall in a flying chariot! Do you mock the majesty of this holy place?” Thundered a voice from the sky.
Soon, a giant spirit warrior’s face twisted with rage as he raised his fist, ready to strike down the chariot.
“Please, calm your anger!” Nalan Ruyue cried out, her face drained of color.
