Chapter 21 - Episode 021: Headhunter, Picking Up Mofumofu
Episode 021: Headhunter, Picking Up Mofumofu
Running the shop at a leisurely pace, I decided to take two days off.
Next holiday.
I headed out to a mountain a little distance away for ingredient procurement.
“Alright, I’m off.”
“Yeah, take care.”
“Snow, I’m counting on you to look after everyone.”
“Kyuu!!”
After gently patting Tina’s head, leaving the rest to Snow, I set off.
I’m headed to Camille Mountain, which stretches west of Farmrest.
There, you can find the renowned Formaboars and Kenaibirds.
Formaboars are monsters resembling hairless boars, and Kenaibirds are bird-like monsters born to become smooth-skinned meat.
Both are necessary to provide better and cheaper Boar Cutlet Sandwiches and Chicken Sandwiches.
While I’m at it, I’ll also search for mountain delicacies.
“Hmm, what’s that?”
As I ran, I spotted a horde of monsters advancing towards the village.
People were fleeing urgently from the village.
I couldn’t just ignore it.
Though I was worried about Tina waiting at home, I changed direction to help the village.
“Gyagyagah!!”
The monsters attacking the village were called Goblins.
About the size of human children, they had ugly faces with sharp ears and pointed noses, and a round belly, showing some degree of intelligence.
They were highly reproductive monsters, often causing trouble by attacking human villages.
“Hmph!!”
I stood between the village and the goblins with my sword held sideways.
*Gyaaaah!!*
With just that, all the goblins’ heads danced in the air, wiping them out completely.
“Thank you so much. How can we ever repay you…”
As the villagers realized the goblins were gone and returned, the village chief bowed his head to me, followed by the villagers.
Everyone looked at me with eyes that seemed to worship me as their savior.
I felt a little puzzled by their demeanor.
“Don’t worry about it.”
“No, that won’t do. Not showing gratitude after being helped is disgraceful for citizens of the Kingdom of Karm. Do you have any requests?”
Since I didn’t seek thanks for helping, I couldn’t think of anything right away.
“Well, there is…”
Then, I noticed the numerous cows being raised in this village.
It seemed that dairy farming was flourishing in this village.
I was just thinking about how to procure milk. It was perfect timing.
“Would you sell me milk?”
“Oh no, we can’t sell it to our benefactor. We’ll provide it for free.”
“I don’t want anyone to lose out. Just sell it to me.”
For me, dealing with goblins was as easy as crushing bugs.
I didn’t need thanks, and I didn’t want them to go out of their way. Instead, I wanted us to continue to have a good relationship.
“I see… understood. We’ll do as you say.”
Understanding my intention, the village chief was impressed and decided to sell me their prized milk at a preferential and discounted price, which was highly valued among merchants.
“Now, where are they…”
Unaware of such things, I obtained the milk at a low price and arrived at Camille Mountain, said to take several days from the city, in about an hour.
While running, I searched for the monsters I was after.
“Found them.”
After a few minutes, I found a Formaboar, closed the distance in an instant, and cut off its head.
The Formaboar became meat without even realizing.
“Gugegegegege…”
Kenaibirds gathered, attracted by the smell of blood.
“Hah!!”
“Gugege…”
They attacked me, but like the boar, they had their heads swiftly cut off, turning into numerous chunks of meat in an instant.
“Let’s go home.”
Having achieved my goal, I packed the blood-drained monsters into my magic bag and descended the mountain.
“Huh? Is this a mofumofu?”
However, on the way, my mofumofu sensor detected a faint mofumofu presence.
Following that feeling, I found a monster lying down.
The monster was a Puribear. It had a raccoon-like appearance and had the power to clean various things.
Because of that power, it was sometimes targeted by humans.
“Uuuuuuu…”
“Rest assured, I have no intention of harming you.”
As I approached, the Puribear, with a weak voice, started to threaten me.
However, as soon as it heard my voice, it stopped resisting and lost consciousness.
There was a large cut on its abdomen, indicating that it had been slashed by someone.
Seeing the wound, Ack’s feelings stirred, and a sense of intimidation leaked out, but seeing the Puribear in pain, he managed to suppress it somehow.
“Just wait.”
Ack took out a glass vial from his magic bag.
This was a potion, a medicine that could heal even major injuries in an instant.
It was something he received as a reward before, but he hadn’t had a chance to use it, so he kept it stored away.
“It might sting a bit, but bear with it.”
Ack sprayed the potion onto the wound and it rapidly decreased in size, almost completely closing up.
Unable to leave the Puribear unconscious, Ack decided to take it back home for the time being.
