Chapter 6: The inn
As I arrived at the entrance of the 3 story inn I walk through the welcoming gate engraved with a small engraving which I determined is to make sure the person who enters is not a criminal, I had not been registered in this system ad thus did not have to worry about it.
I looked at board which showed the prices of everything, a small room for a single person cost around 5 coper a night. The biggest room that was available for 1 person cost 1 silver a month, through these prices I was also able to determine that 1 silver was around 100 copper. I had already altered 3 of the copper and 5 of the silver in the alley so I should be fine for the coming nights.
I walked up to the lady behind the bar and asked her in a polite tone of voice: "Could I get room." I put a single silver on the bar. At first she looked at me weirdly, I was wearing clothes she had never seen before and talked with a bit of an accent she had also never heard before. I could have come from royalty, but royalty would never com to a place such as this and if they did they would definitely bring a butler or atleast get the most expensive room. But I had, against what she would have expected from nobility not gotten the biggest room but instead the smallest. This is what she would have expected from a poor person. But a poor person would never be able to afford the clothes I was wearing.
Then she spoke: "Yes I will get you a key, just one second." I waited for around a minute maybe a tad less. After this she came up again. "Here are your keys sir they are for room 12 on the first floor. enjoy your stay."
As I walked away from the bar I noticed that I was getting very hungry. It had been since back when I walked on my old planet since I had eaten. I did not know how long that had been by now. I walked towards the girl again and this time asked her in a very neutral tone without the accent from before. This might seem weird to her but I had seen her hesitation while grabbing the key, she thought I was someone important. My goal for tomorrow was set as shopping for clothes.
"Could I also get some food delivered to my room." I asked. As I said this she pointed towards a board filled with multiple food items they could make including the daily special and 2 other dishes. One of the dishes was called 'Devils Tail.' The other item was called 'A Fire Lizard Brain.' and as the daily special 'Rocktart.' Each was listed at a price of one or two copper depending on the size you choose.
"I would like a Devils Tail." As I said that she pressed a button and out came the Devils Tail. I had bought the smaller variant, though even then the size was around as big as my entire forearm. At the end of the tail there was a small tip. The lady behind the bar told me something about the dish: "You made the good choice this here is a local delicacy though you should not eat the tip it is very tough and can be venomous. The rest of the tail is safe to eat." I took the plate with the devils tail ontop of it. The aroma of the tail filled my nostrils. The sickeningly sweet aroma of what I could only guess was a succubus the demon type I had heard of back in my old world. I did not know if these creatures existed in this world but if I had to guess it would have been that.
I walked up the stair to my room, the door to my room was slightly open but luckily I had not put anything in there yet. It seemed that though some of the doors were protected by engravings all of the cheapest rooms did not. I would not make anough to pay of the cost of having a rune engraved in the door.
I choose to but my bag in the corner of the room. As I put it there I reached in and took out my engraving tools and walked over to the door and engraved it with a small sequence of words and a not very complex drawing, if you had never seen one of my engravings you might have been impressed with the drawing but it was quite simple.
The words below the run said the following: 'ash trek kur last.' which literally meant. door belonging to me. Only I could open it from now on. The rune above the text symbolised me. I had made a custom engraving back in the past which was easy to draw and would symbolise me. This rune had been drawn so many times be me so far I could do it in less than 1 minute.
As my rune was engraved I now knew noone could break into my room without breaking down the door and alarming everyone. I was almost sure my door would never be opened again by anyone but me until I left this place. I had made the rune to disappear when I first left a area within 50 km of the rune. I had done this through the following incantation written below the other engraving this one said: 'hesh truh last nutt ing circ.' which literally means: 'disappear when me 50 km circle.' I then turned to the window and followed the same step by step process to make it so the window wouldn't suddenly open. I had only changed the first word of the incantation 'ash trek kur last.' to 'ask trek kur last.
Now nothing should be able to impede upon my sanctuary. I would be free to do anything while in this room henceforth.
