The Tale of an ordinary ninja

Chapter 36: Chapter-35: Team Hawk

Akira, now officially "Spectre," stood among his new comrades in the mission office, excitement and determination thrumming in his veins. The room, lit dimly by lanterns, exuded an air of secrecy. Each ANBU operative there was a shadow of the village, concealed behind animal masks, their identities hidden even from one another.

Hawk, the team leader, stood confidently at the front, addressing a masked figure whose mask resembled a rat. This operative was the mission overseer.

"Rat," Hawk began, his deep voice carrying a sense of authority, "we need a mission to familiarize our new recruit with our operations. Assign us something suitable for Spectre's first outing."

The Rat-masked ANBU nodded silently, his movements efficient. He thumbed through the thick catalog of mission files, pulling out a C-rank mission. Handing the folder to Hawk, he spoke in a gravelly voice. "Your mission, if you accept, is to eliminate a bandit group causing disturbances near the border of the Land of Fire. They've disrupted trade routes and terrorized local villages. It's a straightforward assignment, but remain cautious."

Hawk took the folder and nodded. "Understood." With a curt gesture, he led his team out of the office, the mission now set in motion.

The Journey to the Border

As the team traversed through the lush forests of the Land of Fire, Hawk outlined their roles in the mission.

"Crow," he said, glancing at the fox-masked Haru Hyuga, "you'll lead the assault with your Byakugan and taijutsu. Strawberry," he addressed the strawberry-masked Ichika, "you'll handle the bandits with chakra abilities. Spectre," he turned to Akira, "your role is to provide support to Crow and Strawberry. Remember, this mission will test your ability to work as part of a team. I'll be observing and stepping in only if necessary."

"Understood," Akira said, his tone resolute.

Both Crow and Strawberry nodded in agreement, their confidence in the plan evident.

The Bandit Camp

The team reached the bandit camp under the cover of night. The camp sprawled across a clearing, with crude tents and a large bonfire at the center. Bandits lounged carelessly, unaware of the danger lurking in the shadows.

Crow activated his Byakugan, the veins around his eyes bulging as his advanced vision scanned the camp. "Twenty-five bandits in total," he whispered. "Two of them are chakra users. Based on their chakra flow, they're around Chūnin level."

Strawberry took charge, her voice calm yet commanding. "Crow, Spectre—you handle the non-chakra users. I'll take the Chūnin. Stay sharp, and don't underestimate them."

The team moved into position, their movements silent and precise. The plan was set.

The Assault Begins

Spectre moved swiftly from tree to tree, his movements fluid and almost predatory. From his sheath, he drew his katana, Odachi. The blade gleamed faintly under the moonlight, a tool of precision and lethality.

As he neared the edge of the camp, Akira formed a series of rapid hand signs. "Water Release: Stream Surge!" A thin layer of water coated his feet, enhancing his speed and agility. He launched himself forward, closing the distance to the nearest group of bandits.

Before they could react, Odachi flashed. Akira's strikes were swift and calculated, each swing of his blade cutting down a bandit with efficiency. Blood splattered the ground as he moved, his sword becoming an extension of himself.

Not far away, Crow engaged his own group. His taijutsu was a deadly dance, every movement a blend of power and precision. "Eight Trigrams: Vacuum Palm!" he called, thrusting his palm forward. A powerful burst of chakra shot out, hitting a bandit square in the chest. The force stopped the man's heart instantly, his lifeless body crumpling to the ground.

The two worked in tandem, almost as if competing. Akira dispatched his foes with Odachi, while Crow's Hyuga techniques rendered his opponents helpless. Despite the carnage, they moved with grace, their actions synchronized like a well-rehearsed performance.

Hawk, observing from the treetops, was impressed. "Spectre adapts quickly," he thought. "He's precise, ruthless, and efficient—a natural fit for the ANBU. He'll become an exceptional shinobi."

Strawberry vs. the Chūnin Bandits

Meanwhile, Strawberry faced the two chakra-wielding bandits. They were quick to recognize her as a threat, launching a coordinated attack.

"Fire Release: Great Fireball Jutsu!" one of the Chūnin shouted, spewing a massive orb of flames toward her.

Strawberry's Sharingan spun to life, her crimson eyes analyzing the trajectory of the attack. She sidestepped effortlessly, the fireball missing her by inches. The second Chūnin joined in, combining their fire jutsu to create an even larger, more powerful attack.

"Damn, that girl's fast," one of them growled.

Strawberry smirked beneath her mask. "You'll need more than that." She formed a rapid sequence of hand signs, her fingers moving in a blur. "Fire Release: Phoenix Sage Fire Jutsu!"

Multiple smaller fireballs erupted from her mouth, each one homing in on her opponents. The Chūnin attempted to dodge, but Strawberry's control over the technique was precise. The fireballs changed direction mid-flight, striking their targets with deadly accuracy. Flames engulfed the two bandits, their screams echoing through the night.

As the fire died down, their charred bodies lay motionless. Strawberry approached, her katana drawn. With swift, efficient movements, she decapitated them, sealing their heads into a scroll for proof of completion.

Strawberry returned to the camp, her Sharingan deactivating as she surveyed the scene. The once-lively camp was now a graveyard. Bandits lay sprawled across the ground, their lifeless forms evidence of her teammates' skill.

Her gaze fell on Spectre, who stood amidst the carnage, his katana dripping with blood. With a flick of his wrist, he used a water jutsu to clean the blade before sheathing it. Despite the violence of the battle, he seemed calm, composed.

"Not bad," Strawberry said, her tone carrying a hint of approval.

Crow approached, wiping his hands clean. "You held back, didn't you?" he asked her, his tone light.

Strawberry shrugged. "Maybe a little. I wanted to see how Spectre would handle himself."

Both senior teammates turned to Akira, acknowledging his performance.

"You did well," Crow said. "You didn't hesitate, and your technique was solid."

"Agreed," Strawberry added. "For your first mission, you handled yourself like a veteran."

Hawk joined them, his presence commanding as always. "Good work, all of you," he said. "Spectre, you exceeded expectations. But don't get overconfident—this was only a C-rank mission. There's much more to learn."

"Understood, sir," Akira replied, bowing slightly.

The team made their way back to Konoha, the atmosphere lighter now that the mission was complete. Upon reaching the village, they reported their success and divided the reward. Hawk took the leader's share, while the remaining amount was split evenly among the three team members.

"Rest up," Hawk told them. "Meet me tomorrow morning at the ANBU training grounds. I have something planned for all of you."

As the team dispersed, Akira couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment. His first mission with Team Hawk had been a success, and he was eager to see what challenges lay ahead.
