Chapter 33: Chapter-32: End of the academy life?
Akira's Year of Growth
The Senju training grounds were bathed in the golden light of the setting sun as Akira stood amidst the rustling trees. His two swords glinted in his hands, their polished surfaces catching the light. At only nine years old, he had come a long way since his journey to the Land of Iron one year ago. That mission had shaped him in ways he hadn't initially realized. It pushed him to recognize the need for strength—not just physical, but mental and spiritual.
Now, Akira's days were consumed by relentless training. He had mastered various techniques, honed his chakra control, and grown proficient in elemental releases. Lady Mochizuki, his sensei, had ensured that every lesson served a purpose, tailoring his training to capitalize on his natural affinity for wind and water while helping him expand into new territories like fire and earth.
Wind Release: Air Bullets
Lady Mochizuki introduced Akira to this B-rank technique early in his training. The Jutsu allowed him to form high-speed compressed bullets of wind chakra that he could fire consecutively. Each shot packed enough power to incapacitate a shinobi or blast through defenses. Akira spent countless hours perfecting his aim and increasing the frequency of his shots, training to release them in rapid succession without compromising their speed or power.
Wind Release: Great Balloon
The Great Balloon technique created a sphere of concentrated wind chakra, which could be hurled or detonated to release a shockwave. Mochizuki emphasized the utility of this Jutsu as a follow-up or crowd-control move, particularly when Akira needed to regain stamina during prolonged battles.
Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique
For fire release, Akira faced an uphill battle. Manipulating fire chakra required intense focus, and he had to first learn to visualize and sustain a small flame during meditation. After five grueling months, he mastered the Great Fireball Technique, turning it into a more potent version by combining it with his wind release to intensify the flames.
Earth Release: Earth Wall Technique
Earth manipulation presented a different challenge. Akira began by crushing rocks with chakra alone, progressing to larger and harder stones until he could pulverize a boulder with a single strike. Once his control was precise, Mochizuki taught him the Earth Wall technique, which allowed him to erect a thick, durable barrier. His walls became strong enough to withstand even B-rank offensive techniques.
Water Release Techniques
As a Senju descendant, Akira's water affinity came naturally. Mochizuki introduced him to a variety of water-based Jutsu, including:
• Water Bullet Technique: A rapid-fire attack similar to his Wind Bullets, offering versatility in combat.
• Exploding Water Colliding Wave: A powerful technique from the Senju clan's archives, requiring massive amounts of water to create a wave capable of overwhelming multiple opponents. After weeks of practice, Akira could execute it with a single hand seal, increasing its efficiency in battle.
Two-Sword Style & Final Gambit Technique
Lady Mochizuki had also passed on her personal two-sword style to Akira. This fighting style emphasized agility and precision, combining swordsmanship with wind and water manipulation to enhance the lethality of each strike. She even taught him her signature move, the Final Gambit, where blades are enveloped in tornado-like winds to deliver devastating, high-speed attacks. While Akira could perform the move, his version lacked the sheer destructive power of Mochizuki's original.
The Final Test
As Akira reflected on his progress, he realized one challenge remained: proving his strength to Lady Mochizuki. To truly measure his growth, he would have to face her in a battle, using everything he had learned. When he approached her with the request, she nodded solemnly.
"Very well, Akira," she said. "Show me what you've learned. But know this—I won't hold back."
The training grounds transformed into a battlefield as the two faced each other. Mochizuki, clad in her samurai armor, unsheathed her swords with an air of authority. Akira tightened his grip on his blades, his heart pounding in anticipation.
The duel began with a clash of steel. Mochizuki's movements were swift and calculated, her strikes precise. Akira, using his Two-Sword Style, parried her attacks and retaliated with a series of rapid slashes.
"Good," she said, smirking as their swords locked. "But you'll need more than technique to defeat me."
Mochizuki leaped back, weaving hand signs with one hand while still holding her sword. "Wind Release: Gale Slash!" she called out. A blade of compressed wind chakra surged toward Akira, tearing through the air.
Reacting quickly, Akira countered with Wind Release: Air Bullets, firing four shots in rapid succession. The bullets collided with the gale slash, creating a shockwave that shook the surrounding trees.
Using the distraction, Akira rushed forward, swinging his swords in a flurry of strikes. Mochizuki blocked each one effortlessly, her movements fluid and unyielding. "You've improved, but you're still too predictable," she said, sidestepping his next attack and delivering a sharp kick to his midsection, sending him sprawling.
Recovering quickly, Akira switched tactics. Forming hand seals, he unleashed Great Fireball Technique, the blazing orb roaring toward Mochizuki. She countered with a wind-enhanced slash, amplifying the flames into a fiery explosion.
Akira used the chaos to close the distance, combining his Great Balloon Technique with a spinning two-sword strike. The resulting attack created a burst of wind pressure that forced Mochizuki to retreat.
"Not bad," she admitted, her tone approving. "But let's see how you handle this."
She leaped into the air, forming hand signs mid-flight. "Water Release: Water Dragon Jutsu!" A serpentine dragon made of water surged toward Akira, its roar echoing across the training grounds.
Akira responded with Exploding Water Colliding Wave, summoning a massive wave to clash with the dragon. The resulting collision drenched the battlefield and created a thick mist, obscuring their vision.
In the mist, Akira activated his wind-enhanced Final Gambit technique. His swords, now surrounded by spiraling winds, cut through the haze as he launched a high-speed assault. Mochizuki matched him strike for strike, their blades singing as they clashed.
Despite his improved speed and precision, Akira's chakra reserves began to dwindle. Mochizuki, noticing his slowing movements, pressed the advantage. She disarmed one of his swords with a calculated strike and knocked him back with a gust of wind.
"Is that all you've got, Akira?" she taunted, though her tone was laced with pride.
Gritting his teeth, Akira poured the last of his chakra into one final attack. He combined his wind and water techniques, creating a spinning vortex around his remaining blade. Charging forward, he aimed for Mochizuki's chest.
But Mochizuki was ready. With a deft sidestep, she dodged his strike and countered with a swift blow to his shoulder, sending him to the ground.
Mochizuki sheathed her sword and approached him, offering her hand. "You've grown, Akira. More than I expected."
He took her hand and rose unsteadily to his feet. "But I still lost."
"Of course you did," she replied with a smirk. "I've been fighting for years. Did you really think a single year of training would be enough to surpass me?"
He chuckled, despite himself. "I suppose not."
Her tone softened. "But that doesn't mean you haven't succeeded. You've shown incredible growth, and more importantly, you've shown heart. That's what truly matters."
She reached into a pack and pulled out two gleaming katanas. "These are for you," she said, holding them out. "I had them forged from chakra metal, designed to absorb and channel your chakra seamlessly. They're a parting gift."
Akira accepted the swords reverently, running his fingers along their polished surfaces. "Sensei… thank you."
"You've earned them," she said, a rare warmth in her voice. "But this marks the end of our journey together. You're no longer my student, Akira. You've outgrown me."
He looked up at her, surprised. "Outgrown? But there's still so much I need to learn!"
"And you will," she assured him. "But not here, not with me. The academy is holding early graduation exams in a few months, and I've already arranged for you to take them. You're wasting your potential staying in class any longer."
Akira's eyes widened. "You really think I'm ready?"
"I wouldn't have pushed for this if I didn't," she said firmly. "But understand this—graduating early means stepping into the world of shinobi sooner. It's a dangerous path, and you'll need to rely on everything you've learned."
He nodded, his resolve hardening. "I'll make you proud, sensei."
Mochizuki smiled faintly, placing a hand on his shoulder. "You already have."
As she walked away, leaving him alone in the fading light, Akira gripped his new swords tightly. The weight of the blades felt natural in his hands, a symbol of his growth and a reminder of the path ahead. Tomorrow, he would step into a new chapter of his life, ready to face whatever challenges awaited him.
