Chapter 84
“As expected, it suits you well. I’m glad you came wearing it.”
As soon as Eleanor entered the throne room, the Empress’ expression brightened. She was a welcome face as she was exhausted from the long celebration procession.
The Empress smiled happily as she looked at Eleanor, who was decked out from head to toe in sparkling gifts from her.
She wondered if she would feel this way if she had a daughter.
Eleano said, holding out the gift box that she had come clutching in her hands.
“Congratulations on your birthday, Your Imperial Majesty.”
“Thank you, Eleanor.”
The Empress’ eyes widened as she opened the box.
Tea utensils made of clear glass and had distinctive blue patterns engraved on them. It was a pattern unique to the estate where the Empress’ parents’ residence was located.
“My goodness…”
It was a gift that seemed to have recognized her longing for her childhood hometown as she got older. It was also the perfect item for her as she loves tea.
“This is my favorite gift I received today. How did you think of preparing such a gift?”
Your son taught me…
Eleanor swallowed her honest answer and smiled awkwardly.
The Empress patted down the seat next to her, inviting her to sit there. She asked as soon as Eleanor sat down.
“I heard you applied to be Izmel’s partner?”
“Yes, that…”
“You will have to wait a long time to get in. Stay here and leave later.”
The Empress smiled sweetly, holding Eleanor’s hand tightly.
“Thank you.”
Her eyes shook slightly. As she sat next to the Empress and watched the people greeting the Empress, she felt cold sweat break out on her back.
Uncomfortable! It’s uncomfortable!
“This is Princess Anais Robert Izent.”
At that time, the maid standing at the door announced the arrival of the Princess.
“Your Majesty, it’s been a while since I greeted you.”
“Welcome, Anais.”
Although Anais was shocked to see Eleanor sitting next to the Empress, she quickly erased her shocked expression and smiled brightly.
She looked as beautiful as an angel as always. So much so that even Eleanor lost her gaze for a moment.
“You were with Miss Eleanor.”
“Do you two know each other?”
“Sure. She also came to the tea party I hosted. Right?”
Anais looked at Eleanor and asked softly. It was a smile that was extremely kind and friendly.
Eleanor suddenly nodded her head.
“Yes, I did.”
Anais took a step closer to the Empress and spoke in a charming voice.
“Eleanor seemed a bit uncomfortable in such social settings. Perhaps she’s a little shy.”
“Oh my, is that so?”
The Empress looked at Eleanor and slowly blinked her eyes in surprise. Anais added quickly.
“Don’t worry, Eleanor. I will help you a lot.”
“That’s right. There is no better mentor in society than Anaïs. “It makes me happy to see two people I like doing well.”
The Empress placed her hand on the back of Eleanor’s hand.
“Then I will step down first. I sincerely congratulate you, Your Imperial Majesty.”
“Thank you. I hope you have a good time.”
The moment Anais turned her back, a brief glance was exchanged between her and Eleanor.
Eleanor felt cold from that gaze. Now she knew it wasn’t just a misunderstanding.
“Mother.”
At that time, Izmel walked out from behind the curtain.
“Oh, Izmel.”
“Happy birthday, Mother.”
Izmel gracefully bent down and kissed the back of the Empress’ hand. She looked at her son’s sparkling appearance from head to toe with a happy face.
Izmel held out her hand towards Eleanor.
“Lady Everett, shall we go out?”
“Yes!”
Eleanor, who had been sitting awkwardly the whole time, bounced up like a spring of her own and took Izmel’s hand. Izmel flinched at the reaction, which was much faster and more aggressive than he expected.
His eyes widened slightly for a moment and then softened. Izmel gently escorted Eleanor toward the exit.
The Empress, who was watching the two closely, said.
“I didn’t know you two got along so well. Just like a beautiful painting.”
“Is that so?”
Izmel smiled and looked at Eleanor.
“I think we get along quite well, Lady. What do you think?”
If it were just the two of them, she would have pretended it was a mistake and stepped on his foot once and strained her eyes.
Eleanor looked up at Izmel and answered sweetly.
“Your Highness looks just like Her Imperial Majesty the Empress and is so beautiful. I’m sure you would look like a picture standing next to a certain lady.”
Izmel’s expression became sullen as he was thrown off by Eleanor’s habitual iron wall. Anyway, even though she was soft, she was secretly sharp.
Izmel and Eleanor slowly walked down the stairs in unison. Eleanor and Adrian’s eyes met.
‘I’m just watching.’
Adrian, who was looking intently at Izmel’s crossed arms, spoke with his mouth. Dissatisfaction was written all over his face.
She shrugged her eyebrows as she came down to the floor and stood. Eleanor whispered a joke.
“Are you ready to get stepped on for the first time in a while?”
Izmel laughed out loud. He answered, hugging Eleanor’s back lightly.
“For that, I’m always ready.”
Contrary to her confident declaration of war, Eleanor completed the first two songs without any major mistakes. It seemed like he was really good at dancing.
Eleanor finished dancing in front of people without making any major mistakes and smiled brightly.
“Good job. My hard work was rewarded.”
“It’s rewarding to learn so hard.”
Eleanor bowed lightly and stepped away from Izmel. Then, as if they had been waiting for it, Kaidel and Adrian approached her.
“Eleanor.”
“Ellen.”
Izmel immediately stood in front of Eleanor.
“Everyone, give up. For today, she will be my only partner.”
Kaidel’s eyebrows furrowed slightly. He protested harshly.
“The last time she came as my partner, didn’t Your Highness ask her for a dance?”
Adrian nodded in agreement.
“Eleanor should have been my partner that day too.”
Hildegard, if it weren’t for that colt-like woman.
At Izmel’s retort, Kaidel snorted softly. But he agreed to some extent.
“Ellen, aren’t you thirsty? Why don’t you take a break?”
At that time, Adrian quickly changed course and attacked Eleanor. She nodded.
“I think I might want to rest a little.”
At Eleanor’s words, Izmel looked as if her foot had been stabbed by the ax he trusted.
‘No, you can’t nod there!’
Adrian said cheerfully, pointing to the table.
“Go sit down. I’ll bring you something to drink.”
Eleanor gave a light greeting to Kaidel and Izmel and quickly left the place. Although Eleanor wanted to rest, she had no one to follow her lead.
Izmel looked Adrian up and down with disapproving eyes.
“I’ll remember what happened today, Young Marquis.”
“I’m honored that you remember me.”
Adrian bowed gracefully and showed his respect. Izmel boasted as he took a handkerchief out of his pocket.
“It was a gift from Eleanor.”
Kaidel, who carefully took it and looked at the delicate butterfly embroidery, was amazed.
“Eleanor did the embroidery…”
Adrian shook his head.
“You saw the cake, but you still don’t know that much about Ellen? She bought it.”
“She chose it directly, you know, directly.”
While saying ‘directly, Izmel snatched the handkerchief from Kaidel’s hand.
Then Adrian, who was still, gently rolled up his jacket sleeve to show the cufflinks.
“I also received a gift from Eleanor.”
Izmel and Kaidel’s eyes turned to the jewel that sparkled in the light. It was a vivid green like Eleanor’s eyes.
“It was so precious that I just wanted to keep it…”
Adrian said with a grin.
She said she would give it to me as a gift for the rest of my life so I wouldn’t have to do that.”
Forever.
One by one, large chunks of rock fell on Kaidel and Izmel’s chest.
The destructive power of just two letters was enormous. Kaidel and Izmel stared at Adrian’s wrist with bewildered eyes.
Adrian straightened his sleeves and lowered his arms.
“Didn’t Your Grace receive the gift? It was your birthday not long ago.”
A wicked smile appeared on Adrian’s face.
“A right to wish.”
Kaidel answered softly.
He thought there was no better gift than a wish ticket (it shouldn’t be too difficult). However, he became a little glum when Izmel and Adrian puffed out their chests.
“You got something good.”
Izmel said with a grin.
“I know because I’ve received it twice. I really like that.”
“Use it carefully.”
Adrian added teasingly.
“I will receive it for the rest of my life, but Your Grace only has one.”
At that time, someone tapped Kaidel’s sagging shoulder.
Could it be Eleanor?
Kaidel, who turned around full of anticipation, quickly became expressionless.
It was Princess Izent, or Anais.
“Hello, Kaidel.”
“I hope you call me Duke Valentine correctly. Princess Izent.”
Kaidel drew a line with a stern expression. Yet Anais didn’t budge one bit.
“Oh my, I’m so sad. Haven’t we known each other for quite some time? I think you called me by my name before.”
“It happened when we were young. Now that I have become the head of the family, the story is different.”
Kaidel said, taking a step back from Anais. It was a signal that he wanted to end the conversation.
‘Why is this man like this today?’
A vein appeared on Anais’ forehead. Although he was usually blunt, he had never shown himself so openly undesirable. His eyes also seemed to be a bit angry, as they cooled down somewhere.
Anais stroked her long hair and made a pitiful expression. The tip of her nose turned red and her eyes became moist as if she was going to cry at any moment.
“I apologize, Your Grace. Glad to see you…”
Anais was a woman who always commanded attention. As she shed tears, she heard the sounds of whispers coming from all over the place.
Kaidel let out a long sigh.
“It’s because I have something I really want to tell you. Would you like to dance the next song with me?”
Anais held out her hand towards Kai Del.
The sound of breathing rapidly could be heard here and there.
It was a scoop. A meeting between the most beautiful woman and the most handsome man in the Empire.
Numerous men have asked her for companionship, yet she hasn’t paid even a single glance.
However, no one found it strange. This is because Anais’s beauty was such that rumors spread even to the next country about her.
But then, with tears in her eyes, she asked him to dance first.
“One song is enough. It’s just for a moment.”
A single tear rolled down Anais’ smooth cheek.
