Chapter 52: Chapter 47
"What's your name?" Pingyuan Xiongda asked.
"The Dark Night," Akira replied, not bothering to hide it. After all, he could only use this name for now.
"That's such a basic name," Pingyuan Xiongda scoffed, seemingly unaware of any legend surrounding the name. He stroked his chin thoughtfully before advising, "Listen, don't get any big ideas. I'd say you should stick to challenging smaller ringmasters. Actually, even one of them might be enough to take you down."
"Why, you really think that little of me?" Akira felt irritated. Was he still supposed to buy dinner after this?
"It's not that I look down on you. The underground heroes are no joke. You think professional heroes and their agencies are strong?" Pingyuan Xiong shook his head. "Not even close. The truly powerful ones stay hidden, lurking in the shadows, not the flashy ones you see in the spotlight."
Akira nodded in agreement. True strength often lay concealed, whether in the wilderness or hidden in plain sight in the city. There were always people with hidden potential.
"That guy named Qiao Beiqiao… sounds like a Chinese name."
"Yeah, he's from China, and he's very strong. What, you're not planning to challenge him, are you?" Pingyuan Xiongda asked with concern. After all, if Akira died, he'd lose his meal ticket.
Akira didn't answer directly but asked after a moment, "Is there a Five Kings match coming up?"
Pingyuan Xiongda responded quickly, "Yes, tomorrow night at 8, the fourth-ranked King, 'Steel Cannon,' will be defending his title. It'll be quite a show."
"Great, see you there," Akira said before disappearing into the crowd.
Pingyuan Xiongda was left speechless. Did this guy actually intend to challenge those top fighters?
…
Akira didn't leave the black market immediately. Instead, he wandered around, noticing vendors openly selling bullets and firearms. Business appeared to be good, but there seemed to be a rule that prohibited repeat purchases.
While Akira wasn't interested in buying anything, he suddenly caught sight of a familiar figure.
**Himiko Toga?**
What's he doing here? Akira was startled. He considered going over to greet him, but in his current state, it didn't seem appropriate. Besides, there had been some awkward history between them. He decided to hold off and maybe try next time.
Anyway, there was a big match with Steel Cannon tomorrow, and Himiko Toga would likely be there.
On the way home, Akira took down a few thugs, earning 100 rescue points. Including points from the recent Villain Alliance incident, he now had a total of 800 rescue points, most of them from his classmates and even a few from All Might.
Currently, Akira wasn't planning to buy a quirk promotion pill. He already had one from a previous lottery, but there was no rush to use it. His quirks, "Thor's Return" and "Air Manipulation," now required more experience to level up, and with each upgrade, the changes became more significant.
Akira could always earn points by fighting in the black market, which would let him hone his quirks directly, saving the promotion pill for later.
As he sat on the sofa watching the latest news, his phone rang. It was All Might.
"Akira, come by the police station the day after tomorrow. They need to go over some things with you," All Might said kindly. Akira had been a key player in the Villain Alliance incident. Without him, there might have been student casualties.
Of course, Tenya Ida's contributions were also acknowledged, and the school was well aware of them.
"Got it," Akira responded.
"Don't worry. You did a fantastic job this time, Akira!" All Might encouraged him, and they chatted briefly before hanging up.
It was already 9 p.m. Akira figured Sister Ying should be off work soon. He glanced out the window—and his pupils shrank as he abruptly stood up.
The Fujiwara Convenience Store where Inoue Sakura worked was on fire!
"Sister Ying!" Without a second thought, Akira jumped out the window. Even if his quirk was exposed now, he couldn't worry about that. Sister Ying's life was more important!
The fire was raging, and a crowd had gathered. Some were attempting to douse the flames with buckets of water, but it seemed futile. No one's quirk was effective against the blaze, leaving them helpless.
Akira controlled the airflow, rushing to the convenience store. A sense of dread filled him—Sister Ying had often mentioned dreaming about fires. He had brushed it off as just a dream, but now, it seemed all too real.
He broke through the crowd and entered the flames. The fire could not get within a meter of him, thanks to his airflow control. Desperately, he searched for Sister Ying, praying that she was unharmed.
After ten agonizing seconds, Akira's face twisted in despair—he couldn't find her.
Just as he was about to panic, he heard a faint sound from the warehouse. He rushed over. The door was locked, but he easily broke it open. Inside, he found Inoue Sakura weakly knocking on the door with a broom.
Tears filled Akira's eyes as he scooped her up, then punched through the warehouse wall and sprinted toward the nearest hospital.
Akira ran at full speed like a bolt of lightning, leaving cars in his dust.
Once at the hospital, he handed Inoue Sakura to the medical staff and waited outside, filled with worry.
He couldn't understand why the convenience store had suddenly caught fire or why Sister Ying was locked inside. This was definitely no accident. Someone had deliberately trapped her. Were they targeting Akira, or was there some other motive?
As he pondered, a cold rage rose within him. Perhaps the villains wanted to draw him out or test him by endangering someone he cared about.
"Whoever it is, if you dare to cross my line, you'll pay with your life," Akira muttered darkly.
Half an hour later, the door to the emergency room opened. Before the doctor could even remove his mask, Akira was on him, asking anxiously, "How's my sister?"
"She's stable, but she inhaled too much carbon dioxide, which caused her to pass out. She'll need a few days in the hospital for observation," the doctor replied, patting Akira's shoulder before heading off to attend to other patients.
Relieved, Akira called after him, "Thank you, doctor."
"You're welcome," the doctor waved back before disappearing down the hall.
Akira exhaled a deep sigh of relief, his heart finally at ease. He then headed to the inpatient department to take care of her hospital fees.
